  1. They're probably trying to sucker him into buying ESPN GamePlan. As long has your friend has a Time Warner Cable subscription, they'll have access to the game on WatchESPN since it's broadcast on ESPN3.
  2. Yes, I took a tour of the stadium awhile back. Nobody is going to sit farther away from the field unless they have to and the empty plazas between the east and west stands would've not only made for a better view than the tips of the wings, but trap in some of that home field advantage noise from the crowd.
  3. So you don't find it interesting that the seats the farthest away from the field weren't filled like the rest of the stadium? One of the biggest complaints about Fouts Field was the distance between the field and the seats in the stadium yet the stadium's "prominent" feature puts fans farther away from the field. That picture articulates one of the downfalls of Fouts and why that reason for problems with attendance won't carry over to Apogee Stadium, those few seats excluded.
  4. Anyone else find it interesting that the tips of the "wingzone" are completely empty, but the rest of the stadium is packed?
  5. I've heard that argument for years and it's nothing but B.S. Since 2005, UNT has had 47 more losses than it has wins. You can't honestly think that UNT needs 47 wins (which would take 4 1/2 seasons of going undefeated) just to bring the program back to the golden era of Dickey days? Just like UTSA, UNT's 28k crowd is proof that there's more to building a program than simply winning games. A new head coach, new stadium, and new uniforms all help to show there is a change for potential fans away from UNT's recent ways.
  6. UTSA's attendance dropped from 56,743 to 31,634 this week, but the Roadrunners had a larger crowd than UNT's home opener of 28,075. If they stay above .500 for the season, I wouldn't expect to see UNT outdraw them this season.
  7. After reading about the "Snake Pit" in this Sports Illustrated article back in 1970 about the Snake Pit the season the Super Pit opened (Link) and another from The North Texan (Link) where they call it the "Men's Gymnasium." I'm trying to find out if the old "Snake Pit" is still around or if its been demolished. I know it was on Highland Street, but I don't know if it's been demolished or renovated and is now called something else. Any information would help. Thanks!
  8. I thought that was only on during FB/MBB season?
  9. So if UTSA really is just buying time for their own "infomercial," why isn't UNT doing the same thing?
  10. That's my point. When people ask where I'm from, I tell them "North Texas." The follow up question has always been "what city in North Texas" and never any mention about the university.
  11. Since the last round of rebranding in 2005, the academic side of the university only uses "University of North Texas" or "UNT." "North Texas" has been left to the athletic department and unlike the academic side of the university, it doesn't use UNT for sports teams which leads to some confusion. Inevitably "North Texas" leads to someone unfamiliar with the university or an inept sports commentator saying "North Texas State" which was retired back in 1988. "UNT" is rarely confused with "NTSU" and I think would make for a much better public brand than the university using "UNT" while the athletic department uses "North Texas." So, which one would you prefer the athletic department go by? UNT Mean Green or North Texas Mean Green? Edit: Also, "N. Tex" or "NT" constantly appears in national broadcasting box scores which only seems to add to the confusion since the NTSU days.
  12. This obviously isn't "Top 5 2011 teams" it's the "Top 5 programs." Look how UNT stacks up against these five: Regular season conference titles: 1. Texas: 25 2. Texas Tech: 13 3. Texas A&M: 11 4. UTEP: 9 5. North Texas: 7 6. Baylor: 5 Conference tournament titles: T-1. Texas Tech: 5 T-1. UTEP: 5 3. North Texas: 3 T-4. Texas: 2 T-4. Texas A&M: 2 6. Baylor NCAA Tournament appearances: 1. Texas: 29 2. UTEP: 17 3. Texas A&M: 12 4. Texas Tech: 10 5. Baylor: 6 6. North Texas: 3 NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 appearances: 1. Texas: 13 2. Texas Tech: 5 3. UTEP: 4 4. Texas A&M: 2 5. Baylor: 1 6. North Texas: 0 NCAA Tournament Elite 8 appearances: 1. Texas: 7 2. Baylor: 1 T-3. North Texas: 0 T-3. Texas A&M: 0 T-3. Texas Tech: 0 T-3. UTEP: 0 NCAA Tournament Final 4 appearances: 1. Texas: 3 2. Baylor: 2 3. UTEP: 1 T-4. North Texas: 0 T-4. Texas A&M: 0 T-4: Texas Tech: 0 NCAA Tournament winner: 1. UTEP: 1 T-2. Baylor T-2. North Texas: 0 T-2. Texas: 0 T-2. Texas A&M: 0 T-2. Texas Tech: 0
  13. Back in the 80s, Division I-A had almost 150 teams.
  14. More importantly, it looks like the stadium finally has a name. The stadium's website has referred to the new stadium as "The New Football Stadium at Mean Green Village" and this is the first time even a tentative name has been given to the stadium. "Mean Green Stadium" is simple, concise, and until a long term corporate sponsor steps up, continues the "Mean Green" emphasis since the 2005 rebranding from Eagles.
  15. FIFY Hopefully the first story tomorrow will be Mean Green cutting down the SBC Tourney's net! Good luck.
  16. Houston is planning to build or is already in the process of for ~3000 beds and they'd have the third most beds on-campus in the state only behind #1 Texas A&M, #2 UT Austin). That'll also put UH ahead of current #3 Texas State, #4 Texas Tech, and #5 North Texas. Looks like the only large commuter schools left in Texas are UT Arlington, UT Dallas, and UT San Antonio all with ~4,000 beds, or almost half the size of of UT Austin.
  17. Just wait a couple months for the official release from the athletic department. They could have just changed in off a rumor. FBSchedules.com has stuff like that happens all the time.
  18. Great job! I really like that SOW accent on the pant stripes. Can you do a set with green pants on both the home and away combos?
  19. Texas Tech just wrapped up a home-and-home with Houston (2009 & 2010)
  20. The TicketCity Bowl is a great example of why there are too many bowl games. A 11-1 Texas Tech team played at the same stadium just two seasons ago against a 8-4 Ole Miss team and the game pulled in 88,175. After a disappointing season for two 7-5 teams, I wasn't that surprised to only see the Cotton Bowl half full.
  21. It's still a variation of their main logo with "BOISE STATE" under the bronco logo. Those years of combining the two has only now paid off with all the media attention that the bronco logo can now stand on its own and still be associated with Boise State. Unfortunately, the SOW isn't as recognizable as Boise's bronco.
