  1. There is no way that Jordan is that stupid. That "Catholic School League" is the best league (private or public) in the country. In addition to that they (his team) played matchups with 6 other "national" schools this year and whipped the living crap out of them. These private schools have a lot more power than public schools. A public school really has to pull off an act of god in order to transfer a kid in. They have to live within the boundaries of the school system which means moving the entire family into their zone without getting busted (nearly impossible if the kid is worth a damn). A private school just gives the kid a scholarship. The kid gets a fantastic education, excellent networking, a ticket to college (or the pro's these days), and the school can legally pay for his mother to either have a second apartment close by to see her son or move her there completely. So I don't know what the hell Jordan is talking about other than wanting to be the center of attention again.
  2. Agreed, probably could be said about both teams down the stretch. That has got to be hell on their depth perception to play in theat big ass open space. I am very surprised at the size of the Syracuse fans, I don't think I have ever seen that much domination of a fan base in a Championship game... pretty amazing especially since they came all the way from New York.. I think a lot had to do with the destination...really gives me even more comfort in having our bowl game there. I think the best part about the NCAA tourney is learning about all of these players from around the country. I would have never even known a thing about a guy like Dwayne Wade had they not made the tourney. I guess I am not that big of a college basketball fan; just way too many teams to keep up with but it is sure great to concentrate on 65 for 3 weeks straight. If I thought for one second that the Belt would get a guaranteed bid into a playoff system then I would be all for it; but my guess is that we would be given a chance at an at-large birth (which means that we would have absolutely no chance in hell) and probably be relegated into playing in some type of NIT-like playoff instead. Who the hell did Knight's new team play in the championship game anyway? ....that would be the general thought about a second tier playoff system and I would want no part of that. Have to give it up for Iron Man. I really thought his picks were out of left field but he proved that choosing 10 really smart picks is better than choosing 30 so-so picks.
  3. Have to give the Orange credit and that means the Burnt Orange as well. Syracuse has definitely proved me wrong about the "Whore"ns. Game isn't over yet but I have more respect for them after this game.
  4. Have to go with MSNBC myself. I wouldn't call Saddam a "Hitler".. he has not earned such an evil title. He is more like a Castro, with a LOT of smoke and mirrors going on there trying to prove he actually has a military; which he doesn't.
  5. Most overrated player right behind the entire Texas team. I am so glad they got knocked off their high horse. As if they don't have enough going for them on the gridiron...I don't think I could have taken an entire year of dumba$$ rednecks claiming that they were they best basketball team in the country. Too bad about Marquette but it is pretty amazing that they got this far with their athletic budget, just under two third's of NT's budget at about 9 million. No IA football but their basketball coaches probably make about 5 times what ours do. CUSA will make a nice chunk of change off of their deep trip. What do you guys think? Kansas wins the whole thing? Syracuse only beat Texas by 11 points... I think KU should cake walk to the championship. Thoughts?
  6. Club baseball team splits double-header with TCU Team takes two of three from TCU in three game series Stephen Howard Daily Reporter April 04, 2003 After blowing out TCU in game one of a three-game series on Tuesday, the NT baseball club team (7-4) did not know what to expect entering Wednesday afternoon's double-header in Fort Worth. After all, the Eagles were missing three crucial starters, and their ace pitcher freshman Robert Flynn was still in class in Denton. Still, the team members that were on hand felt ready to take on TCU. In the first game, the blinding sun and swirling winds that stirred up the infield dirt made it tough to see the action on the field. But in the third inning, the only thing that made the game more painful to watch than the elements was TCU, as they scorched the Eagles for nine runs. TCU took advantage of the depleted NT lineup and pitching woes with a series of line drive hits that put the Horned Frogs up 11-2 at the end of the third inning. "It was bad, but I still thought we could come back after that," said sophomore team president Travis Hooker. The Eagles, however, could not recover from this devastating blow and lost the game by a score of 14-4. After the sun retreated behind the immense forest of oak trees behind the outfield fence, game two began with the Eagles eager to bounce back from their disappointing loss earlier that afternoon. NT quickly responded in game two by aggressively going after the TCU pitching, which resulted in a two-run home run from junior second baseman Michael Foster. The first inning ended with the Eagles in front by a score of 4-2, and they never looked back. TCU mounted comeback streaks throughout the game, but in the end, the pitching of Flynn, who arrived moments before the game began, and a late home run from freshman Kyle Milliron would seal the game. The Eagles won the game 12-8, and the three-game series against TCU 2-1. "I go out to win," Flynn said. "I go out to play the game of baseball." The team continues its brutal schedule with four games this weekend. The Eagles engage Texas A&M-Commerce for a double-header beginning at noon Saturday at Integrity Park in Argyle. On Sunday, the team finishes its three-game series with Texas A&M-Commerce at 11 a.m., and then moves to a 6 p.m. game with SMU at Mack Park in Denton.
  7. Evan, I am not going to argue with you about this but you need to stop misrepresenting the truth. The bar owners are absolutely furious about this. A couple of hair salons that were polled said that they did in fact lose money a little bit on that day historically but none of them (not one) refused to signed the street shutdown petition. This just says that while the non-entertainment venues lose money that day because they either do not open or see a drop in business; those places are more than compensated by the Fair and Delta Lodge. I know that hippy that owns the hair salon next to Riprocks managed to con $500 from them two years ago. This is probably 10 times what he would normally make on a Saturday. As far as Fry St Fair not giving back to Denton that is just BS. They might not give a substantial amount of their profits to Denton but that is because they take ALL of the risk. If it rains than they lose money, PERIOD. The city is not a partner in this ordeal and should stop acting as if they are owed something. There are close to 100 police officers that love the extra work. All sorts of businesses make money off of the fair directly and indirectly from gas stations, to hotels, to restaurants, to bars. I believe the city poll you referred to had 9 businesses that had a reduction of sales on that day. That is aout of about 35-40 which represents a very small minority. Most of all there is an even more important element and that is bringing people back to Denton to celebrate. Do you really think that Addison even comes close to breaking even when they throw their 4th of July celebration? This is about one thing and that is Greed. It's no use to sugar coat it. Now I will drop it, sorry to jump into this again but I feel very strongly about it and the city seriously dropped the ball on this. Good thing the city does not have jurisdiction over NT because they would claim that Homecoming and the floats in the parade were one big insurance risk. Same exact situation, different colors of representatives' hair running the celebration.
  8. Anybody have any info on Watson? We need help and we need it now! What position, how big, etc..
  9. I like WKU in this one. How the hell did Bama get in????? Freaking BCS crap. Leave it to the NCAA to allow a school that has other teams on probation to stretch and let Bama in after they get beat by VANDY (of all teams) in their conf tourney. Then again, how in the hell did Gonzaga get in? Oh well, I guess that balanced it out. I am just happy to see Tech not get invited.
  10. Budgets can always be re-arranged. If WKU can afford to have a high quality satellite broadcasting station then certainly NT can figure out a way to at least use the station on a part time basis. Start off with some sporting events that are easy to put together and fun for the students to do as well.
  11. The reason why it is such a hard sell for attendance is that the damn thing is so long! Wanna know something else? Next year not all of the teams make it automatically. Can you imagine not getting invited (because of record) if it were in Denton? Yikes! I guess you have to take the chance every now and then. Basketball has a way of turning itself around a lot faster than football, we do have a year and a half (but really just one recruiting class more) to right the ship; BUT this year was very disheartening. By then Hopkins will be gone and now Davis is gone. Who is our pure shooter then?
  12. NT outbid everyone else and paid the maximum alowed under SBC bylaws to get the rights to the 2004-2005 season and 2005-2006 season SBC tourneys in Denton. This gives us one year to turn things around (next year it is still in Bowling Green at WKU). As you know, as great of a destination that New Orleans is, almost nobody ttraveled well to the SBC conf tourney when it was there. From the attendance numbers I have heard, nobody is really going to Bowling Green, either. The numbers are great for the WKU games but that is about it. So here is my question. Did we speak too soon when we bid on the tourney? I will await your responses before I post my opinion as I would like an unbiased group of answers from you guys (and gals).
  13. Are we attending the tourney this year. I know that the last pace teams are going to be left out starting soon. I just want to know if it is this year or next. In other words do we have ANY chance of adding one more win to the W/L column?
  14. First of all, she just won 5 personal Grammy's and 8 collaberative Grammy's. She will NEVER need something to "fall back on". Expect Norah to get a 5-7 record deal at over 5 million a piece plus touring money and all of the novelties that go with it (t-shirts, etc..) She doesn't look like a moron, she is ... in fact.. kind of a geek. Looking back at her class photos from ch. 11 last night, shw was a 4-eyed, chubby girl that was probably made fun of in regular school so they sent her off to the Arts Magnate School because she wanted to learn to play the piano. Secondly, she did mention North Texas on the ch. 11 piece and went on to say that one person heard her sing there (at NT) and before she knew it shw was on tour, dropping her classes, and now she was standing up with the second most Grammy's ever won by a solo artist. So is she an alumnus? Nope. But I know about 20% of our Mean Greenbackers that never graduated so I could care less. She chose UNT and now can be asked to come back and speak and perform ... and we actually have a chance in hell that she might say yes.
  15. I guess Artist of the year working with the football team to sell out a FOOTBALL GAME is not worth front page coverage. But SWT's new uniforms is ok, along with posts about the Denia Residents, the PGA, and other various ramblings. Folks, football season is over. This is the board that everyone checks, I have never even glanced at the "General" Board. What the hell is up someone's butt?
  16. Just got best NEW artist! Holy Crap. Guess I will go buy her album. She sounds a lot like a young Bonnie Raitt.
  17. Norah Jones just won the Album of the year Grammy. Holy Crap! If only our dept of music could see the power of diversity that could be achieved if both were to work together. It is so sad that the two departments have so much animosity towards fighting for the budget dollars. I would love to see the athletics department get Norah Jones to sing at a football game! It would sell out for sure, no matter who we played and would drag some Music Majors out to the game to show how much fun being involved with your University can be!
  18. Is there a webpage for the team? A schedule, etc...?
  19. DAVIS COUNTDOWN Tracking North Texas senior swingman Chris Davis’ progress toward the all-time school scoring record: Points vs. Denver: 26 Season average: 19.1 Points this season: 439 Career points: 2,199 Points needed for record: 92 Briefly - Swingman Chris Davis tied George King’s school record by making the 188th 3-pointer of his career. - Center Unjel Masters did not travel with the team because of personal reasons, coach Johnny Jones said. - Jones drew a technical foul for the second consecutive game. He was whistled after stomping his feet in protest of a call.
  20. Maybe we can get them to re-locate this in the "Greenspace" originally offered to the Denia residents... as long as it is downwind from our beutiful new stadium!
  21. Dude, you're getting a misdemaeanor..but it will be erased in a year. In the meantime, toke away. What is the point?
  22. I am worried that Davis will be way overlooked now. Last season he had a few scouts come to see him and he choked during those games (Denver to name one for sure); so far this year... Davis started out very slow and has stepped up since Hopkins got hurt; but I think it is too little, too late. Getting into the NBA is not like getting a shot at the NFL. There are 1/10 the spots available and you need an outstanding senior season to make it. Davis just has not had that season. His chances might have been better coming out any of the three previous years.
  23. With Hopkins out for the rest of the season, I think Chris can do it. He is the undisputed "go-to" guy now so I don't see why he can't do it against SBC competition. The Belt is good but they are mostly run and gun teams which means high scoring. No holding onto the ball and passing three times before even looking to take a shot like the old Hoosier adage. The Belt plays up tempo basketball and if CD score as many as he did last night in half of the rest of the games against "lower" copmpetition than that of NMSU than he can even afford to have a couple of off games. Take away that slump he had and I would say for sure that he could have done it, should be fun to watch him chase it. I hope JJ and the boys are aware of it when it gets close. I want him to earn it but I want him to get the opportunity to earn it as much as possible! And the season is not blown just yet. Everyone starts fresh in the SBC tourney and anthing can happen! We are 7-13, do you realize how thankful Trilli would have been for a 7 win season during any of his seasons at NT?
  24. WOW! I guess I just imagined it all then. Does senility really come at 30? I am not going to go into the specifics about all of this but everyone chipped in to make all 5 home games tailgate friendly. Texas Stranger - did you play Div IA football? Because I would say that being a trombone player in high school is a lot different than being one in college and in the same aspect.. being a football player in high school is a LOT different than playing at a Div IA school.
