  1. We've had many good running backs over the years, hard to see many people left out. But, there were so many options.

My only surprise is that with so many players coaches by Odus Mitchell, why isn't the stadium or field named after him? I get, to some degree, that in the 21st Century you sell naming rights. But, why not the field? I only started following UNT in 1990...did Mitchell screw someone's wife or something? How do we not publicly recognize him more?

Also, looking at the list, sad to see Beasley Reece not make the list. Other than that, I'm good with it.

Coach Mitchell was a great man and stayed involved with North Texas until his death. I had the pleasure of knowing him and going to school with his grandkids. I wish they would name the field after him, very deserving.

I was surprised Dunbar didn't make the team, but more surprised that Waters was picked as the TE considering he was moved from position to position during his NT career. I think he was recognized more for his contributions in the NFL and after leaving NT, which I disagree with. Does anyone know his numbers at TE compared to say a Luis Silva, Andy Blount, Randy Gardner, etc...?

  2. I think the bottom line for me was that BB had that "looks like he could go out and win you a game" factor. DT, though he looked a bit better, stll quite frankly scares me. Everything from his mechanics (throwing motion) to the roulette wheel feeling I get when he throws more than 15 yards.

I did like what I saw from lil' Mac.

I have no worries about the OL. I think they'll be fine.

RB's were a mixed bag but they didn't all have the luxury of the first string OL.

I really like Carlos Harris. I hope he can be that guy to draw some attention away from Chancellor.

    Still worried about the DL.

    Bingo.

  3. So many problems with this post.

The "5 or 6" that you talk about used to be very hardcore, positive supports of the program. If you really think it is 5 or 6, go back and look at the picture posted by Tasty of the empty Superpit at the end of this year.

Support no matter what? Support when the leadership of your university refuses to support? Fine, if that's your fhiing. You say some are rats off a sinking ship, I say you are the cello player that just kept playing as the titanic broke apart.

Did it ever occur to you that demanding standards and success from the administration, AD, and coaches is actually SUPPORTING the players? Probably not.

Sometime I think some of our fans don't really want success, because that means more people would show up, the AD would have less time for them, they couldn't buy a cheap seat and slide into the good section without anyone caring , and they would feel far less important.

But keep on trying to run off committed fans, because that is the answer to everything.

So much wrong with this post...you don't come close to getting my point. This is one day, one day to watch our team at the end of Spring Practice, to look for improvement while understanding this is Spring Practice. You and a few others choose to look for the constant negative or to criticize the young men out there working hard to get better when representing our university. I do not like losing and don't want people to not care, but twisting almost every thread into a negative diatribe has grown tiresome. Here was a day to look at some of our new players, celebrate the all century team, watch some football, etc... Nothing is perfect, nothing but can't you take one day off from your campaign against the administration?
  4. I think we look like we belong back in the SLC to these people for a lot of reasons. Losing big time to SMU won't add anymore fuel to that fire. Losing games to outlets called Western Kentucky, Middle Tennessee, Florida International, and Louisiana-Monroe have done more damage on that front. Playing teams at home in Denton like Texas Southern and South Alabama make this SLC perception even more accepted. I'll say this--if we lose to UTSA this year, that will do it for me. I'll let everyone know that the SLC really should be our home if we cannot beat a startup program in its third year of existence.

Five or six posters on here have their panties in a wad and think everyone is ready to jump ship because they are. That is both ridiculous and hilarious. Support our team the best you are able or jump ship. The rats are right behind you.

I sat in Apogee today and loved it? Why, because I got to see my team play. I would rather see them than the Cowboys, Rangers, UT, OU, NASCAR, etc... Support our team. Everyone wanted us to go to CUSA and now everyone can't wait for us to fail. It is incredible to read some of this crap on here. Does this mean I am happy losing? Not at all. I hate losing. It ruins my week and pisses me off to no end, but degrading our team and the young men that chose to play and represent my university is wrong. We will be improved this year, but some of you will be too busy looking for what is wrong instead of what is right. F SMU. I wish them nothing but complete and utter failure on all levels and all sports.

  5. What? Really? Do you watch football games? What's the first thing a QB does when he gets to the sidelines? He gets with the OC. Who should he be talking to? Sklandy? Mac? Diet Coke Boy? The QB should be the OC's shadow. That's a good thing that the QB is getting with his coach to know what to improve, look for, audible to, patterns, etc

Yes I played the position and there is a difference.

  6. Actually, he should have. The Green team was 1st and 3rd team players vs. the 2nd and 4th units White team. Berglund was on the Green side the first half (in a green jersey). The second half he switched to a white jersey and finally played with the 2nd and 4th units.

I agree, but if you are third on the depth chart you don't typically get to run with the first team.

  7. Hide...Watch & See, folks.. TSU-SM has something we don't have at North Texas right now....some call it "athletic program momentum" and their interviewing & hiring

North Texas alum Danny Kaspar added to that mometum.

Meanwhile over at the Mean Green Villlage............the beat goes on.

This thread is about the Spring Game. Take this to the appropriate thread, wherever that is located.

  8. I enjoyed the game. A Spring Game is what it is, so I don't read too much into it. I sat by Kenny Buyers father. He likes the team compared to last year. I thought McNulty looked the best at QB by far. DT looked the same to me. I am a fan of his but his footwork is still an issue and he is inconsistent. He made some great throws, looked off DB's and then would throw one in the ground. McNulty was elusive and threw a nice looking ball. I saw one bad throw that missed a wide open WR, but outside of that he looked pretty darn good. Not much running in the game so not much to report there. Chancellor, Harris, Smith and Terrell looked good at WR.

    Excited about next season.

  9. It isn't a bit. I like Mitchell, he has a ton of potential. I do think he will get drafted on that potential, probably in the 2nd round. I do not think he will ever play any meaningful minutes in an NBA game. To play in the NBA you need be a great shooter or player than can score one-on-one, which he is neither, or be a tenacious defender and rebounder of which he could be except he doesn't hustle and sulks and complains to the refs. So he isn't a guy that can score, and he isn't a hustle guy, so what is he? He is a less talented Brendan Wright that doesn't hustle as much, but can hit an occassional three. I hope he can be the guy that dominated the LeBron Camp, but I am skeptical.

This hits the nail on the head. He potentially was the best player ever at NT but didn't live up to that potential in my opinion. If he did, he would have dominated the Sunbelt.

  10. because money does not grow on trees unless it is being wasted in dallas on failed economic developments

and eminent domain is not something that can just be used whenever some entity with the ability to use it wishes to use it....there has to be a PROVEN need and right now north Texas has plenty of land and space to build upon and it is doubtful they could prove need if they were to try

plus the Sack N Save property alone is on the tax rolls for $2,155,000 and I doubt it could be bought for that even with eminent domain since there would need to be provisions made for taking away the profitibility of the owners of that property both the real property owner and Sack N Save so you are probably looking at 4 or 5 million alone for just that property and when you add in the strip center, exxon, IHOP, and on and on and you add in that each of those businesses is having the ability to profit from an investment taken away from them you are looking at a very large investment of cash just to get the properties then you have to scrape them clean as well

Sack N Save, McDonalds, Exxon, Raise The Flag, IHOP, Dollar General and on and on are all making money from that property as are the property owners and the use of eminent domain that would strip them of the ability to continue to do so would be an expensive legal fight and a settlement well over the taxable value of all those properties which is about 4 million+

and I seriously doubt The City of Denton is looking to take ownership of those properties since doing so would remove the ability to collect property taxes from them....if Denton was going to lose the right to collect taxes on those properties it would be much smarter to just let north Texas pay that cost and Denton would just lose tax revenue instead of spending tax money to lose tax revenue

also The City of Denton getting involved would just make it much more likely that an eminent domain case would lose in court since "beautification" projects in Texas are not considered public interest projects and may actually not qualify for the use of eminent domain at all....north Texas could try and make a case, but at this point since no lack of space is shown on a 20 year plan that was just released for the university detailing the locations of future projects I doubt that would be a winning case in court especially in Texas

and when a university is having to spend 3.5 million on T-shacks to house two long established programs of study and they are going to place those T-shacks at the highly visible location of Chestnut and Welch I doubt there is money available so buy 6-8 million worth of real estate (maybe more depending on profitibility of the various businesses on those properties) and then pay to scrape them clean as well especially when there is no long term planned use for them

    Your knowledge knows no bounds!

  11. The people out here in West Texas drive to Lubbock during the season. This was a way to bring the team to the fans, and allow the university to bring alums together which leads to donations. Some of you are in such a negative state of mind that you want to turn anything remotely positive into a negative. Worried about attendance, then invite every single coach from the Dallas ISD and the surrounding communities and leave the doors open for fans. Anybody that comes that doesn't normally make the drive to Denton for the games might become interested.

I live less than a mile from the practice field. I don't go to scrimmages. Season ticket holder. Scrimmages are boring.

This is the main problem with NT. We say we want to be a big boy, we talk about how cool it is that 60,000 show up for Alabama's or Nebraska's spring game and then we won't make the effort to travel less than a mile. It is about exposure.
