  1. Appalachain State and Georgia Southern will surpass UNT within the next few years, assuming they haven't already. (Considering that APP State beat Top 5 Michigan in the Big House and has won three straight FCS titles in recent years and GSU being a traditional powerhouse who scoed more points on 2011 Alabama than any other team in the country). That's also not mentioning how both programs despite being FCS, have outdrawn UNT as well.

You also fail to mention that we performed pretty well and drew well as a member of the Southland Conference. Division 1 and 1AA are very different.

  2. Set up a 3 on 3 tournament like the old Pepsi/NBA tournaments that were played outside in all the major cities. Charge an entry fee per team and set up divisions. Invite the Fraternities and have them invite their chapters from SMU, TCU, UTA, Baylor, etc... Advertise it in the Metroplex. Get a bunch of teams at $25 a pop and you can make a killing. Work with Rec Sports to maybe donate officials and off you go. Set it up in the Apogee Parking lot or use the indoor courts at the new practice facility.

  3. No doubt , which is we should be doing everything possible to get into the MWC, even though I doubt they would have us.

The one thing we have is a large market in Texas to offer. I know, no one watches UNT games, but for some reason, that never seems to matter.

We should be forging an alliance with UTEP to get to the MWC.

But, like I said, we are more concerned with the bottom line than succeeding in athletics, so I doubt we have even looked into it.

Didn't realize you were a current member of Congress, at least on the Left. Mortgaging everything for athletic success is irresponsible. At some point you have to pay the Piper.

  4. I tink you underestimate the effect of the losing basketballl season and the refusal of the UNT administration to do anything about it wll have on football attendance.

Laugh at me if you want, but that was the only major sports program earning it's keep. Good luck with season ticket renewal.

I think you overestimate how 200 season ticket holders in basketball have any effect on football attendance. I know many people that come in town for football that don't for basketball. I am one and a 5 hour drive one way for football 5 or 6 Saturdays a year is tough enough. When basketball draws roughly 10% of what football does, then I think your argument is pretty weak.

  5. You know what sucks worse? Not doing one damn thing about it.

Well, continuing to hit me over the head with it isn't going to change it either. It's like getting in your car every day and the radio plays the same song over and over again. Pretty soon you get tired of it. You are obviously a basketball savant and AD in waiting, so tell us who you would have hired? I am assuming you were able to view all of the resumes, sit in on the interviews, etc...

"Were they handed "the most talented team in UNT history?"

I would challenge this assumption. There were teams in the 60's and 70's that I think were better teams. Did they have players with NBA potential like Mitchell. Probably not, but they were better teams. Mitchell's potential on the NBA level and the potential of Williams, CJ, etc... had everyone excited, but it was all potential. I wish Mitchell well and think his game will translate better in the NBA, but I don't think he is close to being our best player at North Texas. I could name quite a few before I came to Mitchell. That is not a knock on him, but it is a fact that he didn't reach his potential here for one reason or another.

  6. i'm more along the line of oldguystudent. for me, baseball is enough and the sounds of the game are better than piped in music or gimmicks filling the dead air. however, i understand the that most aren't like me. i would just ask to have the batters music, some music between innings and some sort of 7th inning stretch thing and if we add some sort of traditional crowd cheer for certain situations that's fine too. i don't want it to be some sort of circus.

just thinking about hearing the ping of the bats (now a little duller since the bbcore bats were enforced), the smell of dirt and hot dogs and feeling the sun while watching my school play is making my baseball pants dance around.

I'm with you. #2 above, the walk up music, is a beating. Just announce the player, clap and play ball.

  7. I know a bunch of y'all are old farts, but coaches don't do this for fans. They do this for recruits and current players. The players and recruits loved ND lime green unis, also why we wear black, it's not for the fans its for the players

That's it. Make your design decisions based upon the likes and dislikes of a generation that can't pull their pants up, can't tie their shoes and doesn't know how to tuck a shirt in. If that makes me an old fart, then so be it, but I am worn out with standing in line somewhere and a persons pants are hanging down so low all I can see is there underwear. How some keep them from falling down is beyond me.
