  1. Wisconsin wasnt ranked in the top 6 at the end of the season.
  2. If this was in place last season the 4 teams would have been 1) LSU, 2) Oklahoma State, 3) Oregon, 4) Alabama The last BCS standing of the season had the next conference champ, Boise St. at #7. Bama wasnt a conference champ but was the highest ranked non champ
  3. From a purely selfish stand point I wouldn't mind 1:1 agreements with Texas State.
  4. 4 free tickets to the WingZone when you buy a bucket of chicken......Hey, it worked for UTSA
  5. I left off the Texas State experience because its really an incomplete grade. The experience next year from last promises to be much differnt but since you asked her it is: San Marcos is a small college town and a game here provides much more of the traditional college football experience. Outdoor stadium, on campus, Marching band, dance team, etc. However I have to give them an incomplete grade. I went to a game prior to the current endzone construction that is on going right now. The game reminded me of our Southland days because Tx State was still was Southland football last year Once they enclose the end of the stadium and make a horseshoe, start playing DI/WAC I think it will be much different. Attendance: They arent giving away tickets here and you dont have the corporate block buying either. Id say attendance was around 12-13k when I was there. Not bad for a stadium that only seats 16k at the time. It will be interesting when the stadium seats 30k next season Stadium: Concessions, standard stadium fare nothing exceptional, but again after the expansion it may be much different. Parking: There isn't much parking around the stadium and what there is is reserved for Donors and Students. I happened to go with a donor so parking wasnt an issue. I dont know where they plan on putting single game/visitor parking but there is on campus parking and a easy walk accross a campus like Tx State never sucks. Tailgating under a shade tree on campus beats some random parking lot in downtown San Antonio! There is a golf course accross the street from the stadium and I hear there is talk of allowing game day parking/tailgating on the fairways. Stuff to do before/after game: While not as many options as San Antonio, San Marcos offers some options. It's a lot like Denton in a college town with some bars and restaurants on The Square, There is always the Outlet Malls on 35 for shopping, You could always float the river in SM or come to my town 15 minutes away (New Braunfels). If you are looking for more both San Antonio and Austin are a short drive away. Overall, Id be happy with either (or both) Tx State or UTSA as conference mates. Tx State provides a more traditional college experience but UTSA has more potential due to it location and market.
  6. Unlike most (if not all) of the posters on this thread, I have actually been to a UTSA and Tx State football games last season. From first hand experience I can honestly state that UTSA has done a GREAT job in a very short time. I don't get the 'pay your dues' crowd. Why wait? UTSA provides a good game experience for us fans, Lots to do before and after the games, they have a lock on the corporate money in town and they do have good local support. Alamodome is a good venue for the fans. Good concessions, wide concourses, good sightlines. Parking? More on that to come... On the down side....If you are looking for a traditional college football experience than skip the Alamodome. Roadrunner games have a very Pro Game feel. EVERYTHING is sponsored, every break in action is taken up with the "Insert Sponsor name here- gimmick/contest" There is a marching band but other than marching in and halftime, I never heard them during the game. Tailgating: They have a good tailgate scene in the parking lots. Problem is that ALL of the Alamodome parking is reserved for season ticket holders. Others have to find parking somewhere downtown on the other side of the interstate. (this is a much further trek than our setup on campus) The do set aside some areas for student tailgates. It will be interesting if they will do the same for visiting fans. If not, visiting tailgate parties would suck. Attendance: While posting impressive numbers during it's first game and throughout the season, the 'announced' attendance at each game included a lot of tickets bought by corporate sponsors and KFC giveaways. Remember that announced attendance is tickets sold, not butts in seats. (In UTSA defense everyone including us counts attendance this way). I was at the final game of the season. UTSA had a losing record, playing a NAIA team from South Dakota that NOBODY cares about. Although the actual attendence wasnt the announced 32k, it was still an impressive crowd. It was a crowd size anyone of us would be very happy to see at Apogee. In the end, I say UTSA should be included (after we accept our invitation) in the Alliance. They are a growing school in a growing market. The Alliance should take them while it can. What's more important in expansion? The past 50 years or the next 50 years???
  7. The RoadKill fans, er the Roadrunner fans don't like it. They feel they are 'too good' for the Belt. Roadkill Message Board topic
  8. Here are some more questions: Why do some GMG'ers feel they need to go to CUSAbbs and 'campaign' for UNT to be included in the Alliance? Do they think it does anything other than annoy a bunch of CUSAbbs posters?
  9. Don Harris, the sports anchor and sports director of WOAI-TV in San Antonio (a.k.a. the voice of Coach Tom Foolery on Dunham&Miller)
  10. I voted Both but for strictly selfish reasons. Living in New Braunfels this would give me at least one easy game to get to each year
  11. tU? I had no idea Tulsa had such a large athletic budget
  12. Word is Mack Brown was at Ryan High School to court Mario Edwards Jr. Anybody know if Mack swung by Apogee to check out our new place and shoot the sh*t w/ McCarney???
  13. I went to the final UTSA game of the season this year. Make no mistake, this program is doing it right and we would benefit from being in the same conference.
  14. His coach, Joe McBride is an old high school teammate of mine. That's a plus in my book!
  15. ^^THIS! The poster said he didn't like SA because it was dumpy, and liked New Orleans, my only point was New Orleans is dumpy too This isn't San Antonio vs New Orleans. I love BOTH cities. It doesn't have to be an either/or.
  16. you don't think New Orleans is dumpy???? I love that town but the French Quarter invented shabby chic. I've been in bars in the Quarter that gave me concerns if they were structualy sound.
  17. Have you ever been on the Texas Eagle to San Marcos? The train schedule is to leave Ft Worth around 2pm and get into San Marcos at 7pm, problem is it NEVER keeps that schedule. You're lucky to get into San Marcos between 9-10 pm most days. Taking the train is great if you don't want to drive, sit back and relax, read a book, watch a movie etc, but you can't plan a schedule around it unless you want to leave on a Friday and spend two nights in SM because you'd have to wait until Sunday morning to catch the return train to D/FW. The train depot in SM isnt close to hotels or the stadium But if you want to consider Amtrak as a selling point....It works for UTSA as well but even better. The same train goes to San Antonio, and the train depot is downtown next door to the Alamodome, walking distance to hotels, the Riverwalk, etc.
  18. Link Southwestern will reinstate football and add women’s lacrosse to its roster of NCAA Division III intercollegiate sports, thanks to $6 million in gifts from two former student-athletes.
  19. Ok assuming SMU and Houston go the the BEAST, and we get an invite to CUSA. Does a CUSA sans Stangs and Coogs do us much better than the Belt currently does?
  20. I think its because concrete is viewed as more permanent, longer lasting. Steel looks temporary and because it's less expensive, is viewed as cheap. We know, look at our Fouts expansion in the endzone in the 90's. That was total erector set and done on the cheap. Except they didn't. Even with your all-seatback upgrade (which I REALLY, REALLY like), your stadium cost $9 million less to build. Also you have to factor in the $9.5m we already spent building the Athletic Center six years ago. It provides locker rooms and facilities which we would have had to build with a new stadium. Together, we have a complex that cost $90.01 million dollars (adjusted for inflation) I don't know what circles you run in but $20 million dollars is a heck of a lot difference to be called 'approximately the same'.
  21. As far as green bleachers, I heard we decided against it because of the effect of the Texas sun on paint. Just give it a year or two and our stadium would looked faded and washed out and would require the expense of painting the bleachers. Besides, when the bleachers are full of people you cant tell what color the seats are
