  1. Based on last nights game, the first 2 hours doesn't matter much anyway.
  2. To be selfish, the move earlier makes it a little easier to handle with kids. We are heading up to UNT for a Fraternity homecoming lunch and parade and to keep a 5 and 9 year old entertained until a 6 PM kick-off is a bit much. I was a bit of hater initially and thought that we shouldn't move it but if it gets more people out or gets them in the stadium rather than sitting in the parking lot watching baseball, it's a win. Plus, you have to figure some good tailgating will occur after the game. All the alumni hanging out watching baseball outside of Apogee.
  3. Tough call but I realize a lot of people will probably make the game because of the move. It's not that early and mainly to not deter those who would like to see both. It might even keep some alumni in town to watch the ball game.
  4. I really don't get it. It's not like students can afford rangers tickets and when I was in college all I needed was an excuse to hang out, drink, and watch a football game. Pretty lame in my opinion. Plus...they get free tickets and the tickets are good.
  5. Great point. My son's soccer games are often around 12 or 1 PM but fortunately I requested a black out date given I'm the coach. Later in the day allows for most activities to play out and also for alumni associations to have a luncheon prior to the parade/game. Great way to get more people out. Plus in Texas there's a good chance we get a hot spell and who wants to sit under the blazing sun on a Saturday. I'm always a fan of night games.
  6. I guess we all need to start hoping for a strong surge by detroit to knock the rangers out
  7. with the exception of people watching the game from home, how many UNT fans are putting up funds to attend a world series game? Assuming they can get a ticket. From my perspective, following the game via smartphone app is about as exciting as the game itself and the football game will be way over before the important innings anyway. Unless you are a real diehard baseball fan and for those, do you think they would attend UNT football anyway?
  8. I've been pleased so far and agree with statement that part of his job involves changing the culture of UNT. Results will continue to get better.
  9. That's funny..I'll make sure and use that in the future. Looking forward to homecoming!
  10. I know my handle is shart. It stands for S Hart and I've determined that I'll be damned if some stupid line from a movie will cause me to change my email I've used for almost 20 years. Thanks for noticing LOL
  11. After going to opening game, I was on the phone with the Athletic Department on Monday about season tickets. Given my younger kids, we got front row in the endzone and they love it. My wife also liked the idea of blue lot parking so I became a booster given the perk of blue lot parking for boosters with season tickets. Worth every penny and a great family experience. Of course, my kids are now both Junior Mean Green members and I can't seem to go to a game without having to purchase some sort of clothing item. Shirts, hats, and of course 2 foam fingers.
  12. I hadn't been to a UNT game since the last homecoming and had a chance to take my 2 kids and wife out opening day. We subsequently decided to become season ticket holders and Mean Green Club members given the experience. I have two boys - 9 and 5 and always look at events like this as a way to show them the "College Experience". By the way, the mood at Apogee far exceeded anything I felt at Fouts as both an undergrad and Alum. Well to get to the point, I wasn't able to attend last weeks game so I offered my tickets to a good friend who has high school age boys. His one son plays on the freshman football team so we thought it would be a great opportunity to show him what college sports can look like. His other boy was considering possibly not going to college at all. After the game, I spoke to my friend to hear how it went. All he could say was how excited the boys were to be there. The parties going on and the excitement around the stadium. He said it provided a glimpse of what college life was and afterwards both boys had a newfound desire to go to college. Whether it happens is another story, but my friends wife was so happy we offered them the tickets because all the talk in the world about the benefits of college couldn't outweigh the actual feeling of being there. Sometimes seeing the diversity of our school can open the eyes of those with preconceived ideas of what a college student looks like. The best way to fill the stadium is to invite someone out. My friend is now thinking of going to homecoming with his family just to watch the game even though he didn't attend the school. I think that's pretty cool.
  13. Bataan Death March? Really? I am now a booster with Blue Lot parking but I carried my 5 year old on my shoulders from the stadium all the way to the main library without problems for the first game. If you have small children..be a role model and stay in shape. My friend has tickets to UT games and told me his walk to the game is easily over a mile so not much to complain about. It will definitely be better once the pedestrian bridge is done, until then, be patient and enjoy the walk.
