  1. I will answer that with the quote you replied to. How many football players play indoors in an intimate setting wearing shorts and jerseys. You are talking about two different things there. He does wear a suit. Thankfully he ditched the cheap t-shirt under it. That was tacky no matter how much you like the guy. Listen, at the game here last night, Towe was red faced screaming on the court and in the refs faces the whole game. Do you expect us to like him? Would you appreciate that if Coach Jones behaved like that in your arena? He won't, he is much calmer and under control than that, but Towe clearly is not and had it on full display last night.
  2. Edited because the post I replied to was edited and made mine look silly. Good times.
  3. I can see your point. The instant transition from offense to defense then possibly back again and the strategy adjustments on the fly rather than in breaks in between plays could leave some who have issues processing information quickly in the dark. Just remember UNTSIG, you aren't dumb or slow, you just have obstacles to overcome that others don't.
  4. ASU had more than double our regular crowd the other night to see them play us. We can't support a team like ASU? Yes that suprises me, and it's too bad you have accepted it and are cool with it. Do you work on Saturdays? If not, you can leave in plenty of time on Saturday to make it to the game, or even the flag football game too if you wish.
  5. No painting here. You said that exact quote and Leonard goes on a tear. Funny how things work out.
  6. That would explain why I didn't see them. So what about that proposed trade I offered after the draft? Some of your own team members were lobbying for it today.
  7. I'm sure he saw the likes of JayDub, stebo, Sammy, Pierow, and Nicole and was shaking in his cameraman kneepads. It's not a loss we can't overcome. In fact, he was not even on the final list to draft from, which is why I suprised when Matt picked him for me. Also, Hunter Green was not on the final list which I have copied and posted below. I didn't say much about it at the draft, I shouldn't have been stupid and trusted and gone only by the final list anyway.
  8. Great accomplishment for Leonard, the game against ASU was awesome. I hope he brings a game like that to the Super Pit for the home crowd to see. He can shoot, there is no way around that. Stuff like this is even sweeter when you can shake a hater off and make statements like that look ridiculous a week later. That's pretty much what the team as a whole has done lately, and Leonard is the epitomy of that. Keep it up guys.
  9. That may be true Lifer, but you have to admit that being champs in football and basketball would be a lot more appealing than just a good football team. The more selling points the better. Conference realignment aside, this team is on a roll and in contention for a title in a sport that is very visible to the public and they deserve and need our support. If you don't like basketball, be like Cara and watch the dancers the whole game. That alone is worth a 5 dollar ticket.
  10. Green as 15 point favorites? I want in on that. That's funny. Your right Zeke, I've been running tough practices for this game. We have had game situation drills with sacks of cattle feed painted green sitting stationary as our players race past for scores. Gotta get ready for what will actually happen and prepare for every situation you know.
  11. On on side, the Patriots have proven winner Tom Brady and not much of a running game. The Panthers have a killer front four, and that could hurt the Patriots especially with Damien Woody out. However, the Patriots use a lot of three step drop and quick passes in lieu of a running game and that may neutralize the Panthers d-line. The Panthers secondary has played well in the playoffs so far, especially Ricky Manning, but can they keep it up? On the other side, the Panthers have an outstanding running game. Stephen Davis and Deshaun Foster are both very effective in their own ways. The Panthers sometimes only send out one reciever, keeping in two tight ends and backs, so that might make the great Patriots secondary a moot point. Ted Washington could have a huge game stuffing Davis runs on the inside. It seems pretty even so look at the coaches. Fox is 3-0 in the playoffs with Carolina and Belicheck is 5-0 with the Patriots. They each have two weeks to game plan. Looking at it with matchups and plays and strategy, its hard to see a clear winner, but for some reason, I don't think the Patriots are going to let it slip away. The Panthers could very well win it, but I will go with the Patriots. My dark horse MVPs for New England are Rodney Harrison and Bethel Johnson.
  12. Here is your white team: Emmitt Ray Perry Brooklyn Medpilot Evan (e-bone) Will (rhaprez) Lorenzo (Cerebus) Texas Stranger Sean (UNTfan23) twodollarpistols Brent Caleb (MGN) untcampbell Hunter Green Coaching the white team - Aaron. If you are on my team, feel free to PM me with any ideas or suggestions you have. Remember to wear a white shirt on gameday. This team has speed and will come at the green weenies with it all game long. When you are sucking air, we will just be getting started with the offensive onslaught. When you are keeled over pale faced, we will be celebrating in the end zone swapping JayDub's mom stories.
  13. They must have exploded in the second half, when I left at halftime to listen to the men's game the lady's game was pretty ugly. This quote from Slinker says it all: Those shooting %s make me really miss Jalie. At least that kid hit the three pointer at halftime. That was nothing short of amazing, best halftime of the year. I was glad I heard the second half of the men's game on the radio, it was a thriller. Jerome and ShoJo were huge.
  14. That's my fault. I knew you actually like baseball because we have talked about it before. I also know you are not totally against baseball pants either. If A-Rod is your favorite player because he hits for power and average while being a whiz with the glove and an arm that can nail anyone from deep in the hole, and not because he is hot, I will take it back. I got confused and was thinking about the golf team and your um, interest in that exciting sport and it's participants that represent North Texas. You are a genuine baseball fan and I apologize. Nicole knows it is right on the money as far as she is concerned though.
  15. I think this board needs it's own teen girl squad. I can think of a couple shoo-ins right off the top of my head. EagleChick and untangle:
  16. In the later stages of the game, you might need to replace the beer with IVs.
  17. Hey I chased down yalls crappy punts until I got tired of catching that frozen rock emmitt called a football.
  18. Link to Daily Basketball Notebook NT Basketball Notebook January 21, 2004 Slinker pleased with start away from home The NT women struggled all season on the road without a single win in non-conference play. However, opening the Sun Belt Conference schedule with three straight road games didn't go as bad. The Lady Eagles lost their first contest on the road at New Mexico State, but finished the trip off with back-to-back two-point wins over Denver and Florida International. "We are very pleased with the way we played on the road," head coach Tina Slinker said. "We have never beaten Florida International on the road and we have struggled in close games. But we are playing well now in that situation." NT finally returns home for games against Arkansas-Little Rock on Thursday and against Arkansas State Saturday at the Super Pit. Young Lady Eagles gaining confidence After winning three of its last four games, NT is beginning to get the winning attitude it has looked for all year. "I think the biggest difference is we are just getting more mature," Slinker said. "We are starting to put it all together, and having some maturity out of our young kids is starting to pay off." Slinker added that after the Denver newspaper called her team "the lowly North Texas," she wrote on the board in the locker room that out of the seven games we lost that four went to a postseason tournament last year and three were ranked in the top 25. She said that now that the young players are realizing that, they are gaining more confidence. Defense helping NT get its swagger The NT men's team has allowed its opposition to make 40 percent of its shots on the season, but during the Mean Green's two-game winning streak, defense has played a big role. The Mean Green made big plays on defense to hold off Denver down the stretch and held Florida International to a season-low 29 percent shooting from the field. "The kids really feel a little different about ourselves and some of our guys have started to get that swagger about them," head coach Johnny Jones said. "They were able to bore their necks last night and win the game on the defensive end." Sun Belt Players of the Week Malerick Bedden of South Alabama was named the Sun Belt Conference men's Player of the Week. Bedden averaged 16.5 points and five rebounds per game last week as the Jaguars jumped to the top of the standings in the West Division. NT trails the Jags by one game and will face USA on Jan. 31 in Denton. South Alabama's Whitney Woodard was named the Sun Belt Conference women's Player of the Week after she notched her first career double-double with 21 points and 15 rebounds in a game last week. Woodard's Lady Jaguars are undefeated sitting atop the Sun Belt Conference West Division. -- Jake Floyd
  19. The refs whistled ShoJo for a tech on this play for hanging on the rim. Everyone there except the ref saw there were people under the basket (in which case you can hang for an extra second to come down safely), but this picture from the Daily proves it. Using basketball sense, why would he hang on his own goal with a live ball nearby unless someone was under him, and not only that, but they let at least one obvious case for this violation slide earlier in the game. Bad call all the way around, and I'm glad the team overcame all the obstacles to slug out the win. Let's get up to .500 Thursday guys.
  20. If Justin Barnett played heavy minutes he would not look nearly as good as he did against Denver. Credit JJ for knowing when to play him and how to utilize him. He may be an alright player, but yall shouldn't be wasting your time getting a man crush (or regular crush Hope) on him. Calvin Watson is a freshman with a sweet stroke and rangy body that will learn how to play defense. Barnett has started to step up from seeing him at the scorers table and holding your breath, to seeing him at the scorers table and feel OK about not falling apart while he is in there. Being an inside force is much later down the road.
  21. Half an hour means nothing when you have a hovercraft.
  22. Being from Odessa, maybe Cerebus can tell us if there is a mystical link of the power of ShoJo and the power of Mojo.
  23. Honest to goodness basketball talk....I love this thread. More on the offense...Mitchell is not an offensive point guard. He can't handle the ball under tight pressure and certainly is not a shooter. I like having him cover the opposing team's point guard on defense because the last thing we need is Jerome to get tired or in foul trouble, but on offense Jerome should handle all (if possible) ball handling duties. Calvin Watson has a chance to really prosper with Johnson here this semester demanding all that attention. I didn't really elaborate on this in my first post, but the thing I did not like about the offense in the second half (other than Johnson outside) is that it required our perimeter players to create their own shot by driving or creating space. The only two guys I think can do this with any regularity are Leonard (and he has struggled with it this season because of the injury) and Jerome (who can't finish inside due to size...he did get one down low last night ). DeGrate had a nice move off the dribble last night, but he doesn't show that ability enough to count on. That's what I didn't like about it. This team operates on offense at it's max when Johnson is down low scoring and drawing double teams and the perimeter guys get open looks. And when that is clicking, we can beat anyone in the conference as Lorenzo said.
  24. We came out in the first half doing our Bracey Wright impression. The 20 point lead was awesome and I thought we were going to run away with it. But we didn't. Three things that made the game closer: 1) Denver started hitting the shots they missed in the first half. 2) We weren't on fire anymore. 3) Most important, I was very unhappy with the offense. To tell the truth, I did not even notice the offense in the first half, it was running smoothly. Then in the second half we went to some kind of motion set and every time Johnson got the ball, he was out on the perimeter. The Denver center was decent, he was good at creating his own shot and blocking out, playing smart, but we should have been pounding it inside. I have heard that the players were upset at our offense, and I could see why in that stretch of the second half, it was not putting our guys in position to do what they do best. If we would have posted up Johnson, it would have slowed the game down and given us offensive success, and killed their momentum. Luckily we made enough our free throws to keep Denver at a safe distance late in the game. I think I heard on the radio we shot 51% from the floor, which is excellent. The atmosphere was much improved over last game. I was proud of our student section tonight, who really got in the game and had fun. It was very ironic that stebo won the freaking steak when he had to be talked into going. The student section finally won a steak and it was stebo. Now, to what we all want to talk about...Johnsons slam. Holy crap that was the best dunk I have seen in the Super Pit since I have been here. Reached over and tomahawked it on the poor dudes head. That was worth the price of admission for everyone there. Cerebus, if you have a picture of this, please do all basketball fans a favor and post it. If there is a good pic out there, it should immediately be made into a poster with the home schedule and plastered all over campus.
