  1. For basketball shoes and track spikes I like Nike. To me, the coolest pair of shoes of all time were the gold Nike spikes Michael Johnson wore when he ran the 19.32 200 at Atlanta.
  2. This is for serious fantasy baseballers (you won't quit your team when you aren't in first place a month or two into the season). I have a head to head, traditional 5x5 league with a live draft. **While most will be at the draft, if you can't be at your computer that night, you can set your pre-rankings and yahoo will draft for you using your rankings. You can even copy your rankings from another league so you don't have to do it twice. Anyway, if you are interested, send me a PM and I will give you the league # and password. There are already 6 members of this board in the league right now. Just a few open spots left. **You don't have to be a member of gmg.com to join, lurkers are welcome - send an email to gswitzer@unt.edu.
  3. I watched a little of the replay yesterday, and the rama lama ham dam guy is OK, but Tony was right, he needed to work on the smug factor. Speaking of judges, why the heck is LaVarr "Mr. Lose Temper and get 15 yard penalty" Arrington a judge? He said the stupidest crap every time he talked and it was very awkward because everyone knew he wasn't making sense. If you want to get an athlete, get a well spoken intelligent one...not Arrington. It would make even more sense to get an actual anchor on there, maybe not a SC star, but one of the guys off ESPNews or something like that, I would value their opnion much more than LaVarr Arrington.
  4. It is odd that this happend in 2000 and they didn't see fit to prosecute him then, but four years later after a 2,000 yard season this happens. Sounds like someone trying to make a name for his or her self. I have heard that they really don't have much on him and he will walk, that it was a staged conversation between him and a childhood friend, and all Lewis said was "yeah". That's just some things I have read and heard and I assume the truth will come out soon enough. If he is innocent, his name will always be tainted, and fans who look for any little thing to whine about pro athletes about will take this and run with it guilty or not.
  5. I saw the movie tonight, and I would like to second everything bleedingreen said (except I didn't cry, but the females around me cried the whole time). I usually recommend saving money and waiting for a movie to go to video, that it doesn't make a difference, but if you only go to see one movie in the theater your whole life, make it this one. It's that excellent and moving.
  6. I've already read the book, so I know how it turns out. I am going to see it tonight.
  7. I just saw it, #2 on SC's Top Ten plays of the day. It was a very long and lucky shot. Great publicity for our team too. Does anyone else have a feeling about this team? That's all I'm gonna say because I don't want to anger the basketball gods.
  8. The men can finish the regular season with a winning record with a win on Sunday.
  9. He is accused of distributing cocaine in 2000. I really hope this isn't true because I like the way he plays, but if he is guilty, I hope he is prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
  10. Cuban called in Galloway to talk about Walker and they asked him about the Benefactor. He said that he is not making a dime off this and will lose exactly 1 million dollars out of his pocket. He said that any money he is scheduled to make will go to a fund that provides money for people with SERIOUS needs for the money like a child in the hospital or things like that. That way he wouldn't have to put them on the show to help them out. I think if we knew how much money he really gives to good causes we would be shocked. Remember, he gave 1 million to 9/11 victims families and was pissed when the media found out because he wanted it to be a secret. He also started the Intrepid Heroes fund for families of fallen soldiers. Anyway, I doubt I will watch the show, I don't like reality TV that much, but I thought it was interesting what he was doing with the money he will "make".
  11. Kearse is a tough one. When healthy he could take the Cowboys D from good to great. But health is a big issue when you are talking about that much money.
  12. Very good post about a lot of numbers that our players are putting up that need to be recognized. Will Smith has had an underrated career with the Mean Green. I still remember the dunk he had on ULL in 2001. You have got to have guys like Will who do the little things to have a good team. Jermaine Green was another guy like that though he scored more. Will can come in and play defense, block shots and get rebounds, and as you pointed out, he doesn't take stupid shots, and makes 65% of his shots so he doesn't really hurt the team. I think he should play more, but this subject is kinda redudant if you have been in away game chats over the last month or so.
  13. Actually I came across with the opposite impression. After the first few games, I thought the recievers really underacheived and made Quincy look bad. Bryant and Glenn need to get over their little case of the dropsies, and the Cowboys brought in a new recievers coach so maybe that will help.
  14. People say Keyshawn is overrated by pointing at his touchdowns or yards per catch. But that's not what he does, that's what Randy Moss does. Keyshawn is big, physical, with great hands. He is the ultimate over the middle-third down reciever, the type the Cowboys have nothing resembling right now. Also something else nobody has mentioned is that Keyshawn is one of the best blocking recievers in the league. That never gets publicity, but if you have played before, you know blocking is just as important to a reciever as the number of touchdowns. It doesn't win headlines, but it wins games. Don't start rumors about Quincy peeking unless you know he did. Where and who did he peek at anyway?
  15. Brent makes a good point. I have only heard about this trade on Around the Horn, and NY papers are known to throw some things out there without much basis except wishful thinking.
  16. Is there anyone else that will put a bullet through their TV the next time ESPN plays the "Dream Job" commercial with that dope saying "a little bit of a rama lama ham dam"? That commerical must come on at least twice every commercial break. I am hearing it in my sleep now. If that guy becomes an anchor on SC, I may actually start watching the late local news instead. That's how much I despise him.
  17. Soriano for Reyes is tough. Reyes is a true phenom and may end up being better than Soriano (already is defensively), but we KNOW how good Soriano is. He is a proven player and a great one. I hope they just rebuild around him and stop putting off the process. Reyes is 20, and Soriano aged two years in a week and is now 28. I wouldn't miss Mench, but I would hate to see Cordero go as good young and cheap as he is.
  18. We should be drawing 5-7,000 a night. You are right, I can't imagine what it would be like with 3,000 with the atmosphere we had tonight. It's really a shame, and I don't want to hear that Denton supports their local teams until North Texas men's games consistently draw at least double what they do now. This is good division 1 basketball, what are they waiting for? The Mavericks to come to town? And this area is basketball rich too, with lots of schools with good teams and are traditionally good at basketball. It doesn't make any sense. But I am too pumped about the game tonight. I forgot to mention Mike Jones, he had 8 offensive rebounds tonight, and those are always huge. Jerome hit some CLUTCH free throws at the end, and that deserves some attention. ULL may have worn down because they have been on the road a lot recently, but our guys had to claw their way back in. I went over to the ULL board and they are lining up at the top of skyscrapers about this. CMJ, I know how you feel, I don't want to get my hopes up about the tourney to save myself from heartbreak, but with the glimpses this team has shown against the best the Belt has to offer, it's hard not to. I guess I will be "cautiously optimistic" as they like to say. Go Mean Green! Get a sweep in Bowling Green!
  19. LEONARD FING HOPKINS He was scoreless in the first half and went nuts for 19 in the second which coincided perfectly with the comeback. He was the main force in the comeback. Also, my boy John worked his butt off to make this team, sat on the bench most of the season and got his chance tonight on senior night and showed what he can do. He gave Jerome a much needed breather in the second half and while John was out there, the lead was cut by 10 or 12 points from when he went in. You could see him gain confidence with every possesion. He is a good guy and a reason to cheer for the Mean Green. He was even one of the players of the game on the post game radio show, so it's not like I was the only one who noticed. I have to admit, I didn't think we had a chance the way ULL was shooting the ball, but we had EVERYONE, not just one or two step up and give us the best home game of the year. Let's take this momentum into the last couple of games and the tourney and make a little run. We can beat anyone in this conference and we proved that, let's keep proving it night in and night out. BTW, I had no part in my avatar, member title, and signature. I think admin likes to kill time by finding the most random combination of the aforementioned for my account.
  20. Lifer, no matter how many errors he had at a position not natural to him, a perennial legit 40-40 threat is not anywhere NEAR "mediocre". Nobody was equal in a trade for A-Rod, not even Soriano, but that doesn't make him "mediocre".
  21. It was close to being as bad as a writer who suggested a couple of years ago that Cowboys fans model themselves after Saints fans or the Cowboys would get moved to Fort Worth. So many insane things about that, I couldn't even organize them well enough to write the editor.
  22. Tony Womack got a huge number of steals a few seasons ago under Showalter, so that is a good sign. A writer for the NT Tues.-Fri. called Soriano "mediocre" today. It was the first time I had picked it up all semester and will now be the last. The ignorance is amazing. If being one HR shy of 40-40 is "mediocre", I would like see what he considers good.
  23. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=1737869 I don't care where he plays on defense, I just want him to have the green light to steal. This could be a 40-40 guy (he has come very close before).
