  1. Good points by all. I agree that if JJ can implement his system, it will be successful. Another basketball question: Why are there no Midnight Madness events at NT? I know they used to have it not too long ago, but why did it stop and why doesn't it start again?
  2. When I helped at the freshman O last week I told every new student with that sticker I could that the albino squirrell was dead.
  3. CaraBear and I went to the Ranger game last night. We couldn't have planned out a better baseball game. First of all we got to see one of the best pitchers of this generation (Pedro Martinez) pitch to two future Hall of Famers (A-Rod and Raffy), not to mention the potential HOFers on the Red Sox (Manny and Nomar). Lots of star power in this game. Somehow we got a few runs against Pedro and Kolby Lewis pitched a good game and we were winning 3-2 in the ninth. Francisco Cordero came in for the save but Trot Nixon hit a homer off him to tie the game (it was double painful for me because I have Cordero in my fantasy team). Then in the bottom of the 11th, Donnie Sadler beat out a bunt, Hank Blalock drew a walk and Einar Diaz was on base I believe froma botched bunt attmempt. A-Rod came up with the bases loaded, 2 out, botton of the 11th. Let me give some background first...A-Rod is my favorite player and I have not seen him hit a home run in the many games I have gone to see the last three years. I feel like I have cursed him or something. He hit a walk off grand slam to end the game 7-3. You could not have sat down before the game and wrote a better script than that. It was also the SportsCenter #1 play of the night, defintely the first one of those I have ever seen in person. The Rangers may be in last, but last night was a game I will never forget.
  4. Just pulled out my Junction Boys, checked the roster in the back and he is from Christoval PMG.
  5. I agree, people say Friday Night Lights is about small town football. Odessa Permian is not small town football, it's almost a business there.
  6. Got this off the UT board: Link I think the article there is wrong because it seemed like Bissinger chronicled the 88 season, not 85. Friday Night Lights is my favorite book and I hope they keep it as close to the book as possible. It has the potential to be great, but probably won't be. Maybe I'm just soured by how far Junction Boys strayed.
  7. This trade is not that big of a deal. The Kings replace Miller with Pollard, that's a small upgrade but probably not worth the 60 million price tag. The Pacers get Pollard who will be just as good as Miller assuming he stays healthy. The Spurs getting Turkgoglu and Mercer is not that earth shattering. It makes them deeper, but Mercer is not that much better than Jackson, and I have thought Turkglu is overrated for a long time. He doesn't play defense well and is not especially athletic. He can shoot a little though.
  8. Lived in Bruce Hall one semester. (not good times) I have lived at University Courtyards for the last two years, I have awesome roomates but will be moving out in a week or so. Then I will be at Apple Creek on Mckinney with my brother.
  9. Since nobody on this huge football board enjoys fantasy football, and therefore will not be viewed, the CIA has decided to use this post to relay messages to spies overseas. Aquaman, meet with Agent 56 at rendevous point. Proceed with operation Korobushka. I repeat, proceed with operation Korobushka.
  10. I hope nobody feels as though my post was a personal attack, it certainly wasn't meant to be one.
  11. Well I have had some very bad experiences with greeks at games as has been chronicled in the past. I have learned that I can't let the few that got under my skin sour my opnion of greek athletic support as a whole. I still think there is room for improvement in that area, and if this new row can help, that's great.
  12. I can't believe he said that. 1-AA here we come! Also, this can be traced to LeBron James.
  13. The 3-4 defense with Jones moving up really excites me and I feel we can do a lot of damage out of this alignment. I feel it maximizes the talent level on the field.
  14. If you think Bradley drags down the court, picture a 330 pound Chris Marcus with bad legs.
  15. On the other board somebody said the Nuggets signed Marcus. Apparently he has gained a lot of weight. I think he has a long road ahead of him, but if he is 7 feet and has a pulse, he has a chance.
  16. Raef would be alright if he would grow some balls and stop fouling out. And if I could explain Shawn Bradley I would be a GM somewhere.
  17. He told one newspaper he had and would consider retiring. That was before the draft. As in demand as big men are, a 7 footer with foot problems is not a recipie for success.
  18. Wow, San Antonio went from dreaming of Jason Kidd and Jermaine O'Neal to dreaming of Rasho Nesterovic? The Mavs are now looking at Robert Horry. Horry could help around playoff time, like Walt Williams did last season, except Horry is a better shooter and probably better overall. The other guy the Mavs want is Brad Miller and he would be an outstanding acquisition, but I have a feeling the Spurs may want him worse or else be stuck with all that money and nothing to show for it. I never would have thought free agency would turn out like this. One thing about the Lakers: They improved themselves tremendously. With that being said, as much as they improved, don't think of Malone and Payton as the 1996 versions. Payton doesn't defend as well (still a lot better than Fisher), and doesn't shoot the three near as much. Malone hardly ever wanders inside anymore and posts someone up once in a blue moon. They got better, a lot better, but this isn't the dream team some are making it out to be. The chemistry issue will a good storyline all season.
  19. I had to make the trip to Edinburg from Denton earlier this summer and after San Antonio, it's a whole, whole lot of nothing except a few speed traps. If they have to ride a bus to this game, I honestly feel for the team.
  20. SI Link: Texas At the bottom is major college programs and it does not list NT, SMU, or TCU. It doesn't have the Mavericks listed either...are these mistakes?
  21. I agree with this, and if there's something the Mavs need it's defense on the perimeter. Finley, Dirk and Van Exel will light it up from deep all night, it won't matter that Kidd won't. I will give up an extra shooter for better defense for this Mavs team in a heartbeat. I think you might be underrating O'Neal a little, but it doesn't matter, he is going to stay in Indiana.
