  1. From everything that I've heard, DD was born on December 6, 1959 in Galveston. That makes him almost 47 years old according to my math. I don't know why they've been calling him 44 for the past 3 years or so. I guess somebody decided that it might make him a little more of a marketable commodity.
  2. It's ridiculous. They act as if they're only here for the paycheck and really don't care about our school or the long-term direction of the program. It's time to bring in someone who either already cares for The University of North Texas, or someone who is young and enthusiastic enough to develop some genuine affection for our school. This apathetic attitude has got to go!
  3. "News and notes: UNT has not scored an offensive touchdown in the first quarter of 19 straight games." That's so pitiful it is almost unbelievable. Ineptitude rules!
  4. Sad but true. Our coaches just can't compete.
  5. We should also have big advantages over S. Miss. but we obviously don't. I hope you won't be able to make that observation a couple years after our new coaching staff takes over.
  6. You're right. There's no need for me to watch NT win this weekend in Jonesboro. I had hoped you all would let me sit in with your band but I just broke a string on my banjo. Oh well, I never much liked that "Deliverance" river that flows through Jonesboro anyway.
  7. We are especially bad at the sports we don't have, LIKE BASEBALL! College baseball is no longer the backwater sport that it was 20 years ago. When you consider the high school talent level right here in the North Texas area, baseball could bring the university a HUGE amount of recognition. I don't care if we can only afford to play as an independent and schedule regional teams exclusively, we have got to get baseball going. If a little school like Dallas Baptist can have a big-time program, then why can't we? Are we trying to emulate SMU by being pretty much the only other traditional university in the State of Texas devoid of a baseball program? Ridiculous!
  8. I hope that Sturns and Davis aren't our two best offensive players. I have high hopes for Wooden and think that he may have a chance to be #1 or #2 in that department. When was the last time we had an inside player over 6'6" average 15 to 20+ points per game? Lyons, Worrell, and Erskin were all 6'6" forwards, but I don't recall any other big time scoring threats in the front court over the past quarter of a century. We probably hold some kind of a 25 year NCAA record for lack of offensive productivity in the front court.
  9. Glad to hear he's doing well. Just out of curiousity, how old is DD? Every bio I see has him born in 1959, but every time I see his age menitoned he is listed at 44.
  10. Get well coach! Your chosen profession offers many rewards but there's no doubt that it can be more than a little stressful on the old body. Glad to hear that you're out of the hospital and I truly hope that you learn to take it easy from here on out. No matter what people say in regard to our team's performance, everyone realizes that football is just a game and that "real world" events and happenings take priority. Take care of yourself and I hope that you make the right decisions in regard to your and your family's future.
  11. You hit the nail right on the head. With our talent level we should be running the option or some kind of a spread offense. I'm really starting to wonder where these guys went to coaching school.
  12. I hope they realize that the season will be half over in two days. Does this mean that we will finally reach our potential by the last game? Gee, I can't wait! What a well prepared and ingenious coaching staff we have here at North Texas!
  13. I definitely blame the coaches, especially on offense, but I think there are a few stones to throw in regard to some of the players. I'm not going to pick on any player in particular unless it continues and becomes really apparent, but defense is based on intensity and the intensity level last week was no where near what it was for the SMU game. The effort and hustle just did not look like it was quite there on defense last week. Sure the coaches are supposed to motivate and get the most out of these guys, but if DD and company aren't doing their job then the players need to show a little pride and get out there and kick some butt all on their own. That's what team leadership is all about.
  14. If he's sick he certainly needs to be reassigned to less stressful duty. Based on the way we looked tonight, things are only going to get worse from here on out. Just PLEASE don't hand the reigns to Flannigan. He's done enough damage already.
  15. A couple of years ago the tag team of Hayden Fry and Mike Singletary were ready to take the job in Waco. I don't care how old or inexperienced they may be, somebody needs to give them a call and start begging. We need new blood NOW!
  16. We need a new coach NOW!! I don't know whether or not DD has been devoting mostl of his time the past couple of years dealing with his personal issues, but there's NO WAY our players are this bad! It's really starting to get sad.
  17. Decent players and the worst coaching in the nation. If our OL is high school caliber, that situation should have been addressed by the staff long ago. We need fresh and enthusiastically positive blood at the helm ASAP! A really embarrassing loss. Enough said.
  18. EVERYTHING on the field two to five years ago was good. With the exception of the coaching staff of course.
  19. Don't bother it's not worth watching. They even bumped our Houston radio coverage tonight for a high school game. Probably a good move.
  20. And take the entire staff with you!
  21. Damn. A lot of optimism going on down there in southern Florida. Maybe we should change our name to Texas International? With Texas being a border state, might not be a bad fit.
  22. I was about to say the same thing. They may have a lot of cash, and they would certainly like you to think that they are comparable to Harvard, but SMU academics aren't even on the same map as the Ivy League schools. Their law school only climbed out of the cellar in recent years, and in what academic area other than their Executive MBA program have they received anything close to serious national recognition? I have to admit that they do have a pretty nice art museum.
  23. Yeah, and I've been waiting for that Grade A baseball facility for a couple of years now also. It's really a shame that we haven't taken more than baby steps in the right direction over the last decade or so. I understand that some things take time and that this university has been the victim of blase management for years, but the time has come to find a way to build the facilities necessary to recruit the athletes we need to change perceptions and build a truly marketable program in Denton. We are called the University of North Texas, and we can't even do a decent job of recruiting the suburban/inner city areas of the DFW area! Why is that? Is it out coaching staff, our administration, or our facilities that seem to put us at the bottom of every recruit's list year after year? Other than our AD and HOPEFULLY our new president, I say that all three are to blame for the fact that this 34K university is mired in athletic mediocrity. The time has come for change
  24. I don't normally give up this easily, but I have to say that I'm out of here. I just painted the house and I think I'll watch the paint dry. It sure beats listening to this.
