  1. Jeff Bower is a great football coach. No, he didn't resign at USM. He was terminated. Yes, officially he resigned, but he would have been fired if he hadn't. Jeff had lost some fire after 17 years, but I am convinced he would take a new job and with a recharged battery now, he would do great things at UNT. The USM idiots that ran him off, were convinced that Larry Fedora, the new coach, who was given twice the money as Bower and five times the recruiting budget, would do great things. Well, Fedora is 6-6 and 7-6 in his two seasons. No better than Bower was doing when he was run off. UNT could make no better hire than Jeff Bower. He is well respected by the coaching fraternity and would be able to hire a great staff. Anyway, good luck on whatever happens in Denton.
  2. USM outnumbered North Texas State fans three to one in N.O. USM also dominated the game. I love how you guys seem to forget those facts. USM has played better 1AA teams than that UNT team. The N.O. Bowl against the fourth or fifth CUSA team is the best the Sun Belt can hope for right now. Just look at the final rankings of the 119 1A teams and see how many Sun Belt teams are in the 100+ rankings.
  3. I was in New Orleans the other day when a guy with a Sugar Bowl polo shirt began chatting me up. He stated he was on the Board for the Sugar bowl and they just arent excited about having the National championship every fourth year and a SEC representative anymore. According to this inside source they are in negotations right now with the Sunbelt to send their champ to the Sugar Bowl because they have been impressed with their attendance lately. I dont know how reliable this is but he also told me how much gas cost per gallon at the station so he seems pretty accurate.
  4. Easy. This situation involves a coach from USM. If it didn't, I could care less. I don't think any AD would post on a message board to deny a rumor. If he actually did, then that is just about as unprofessional as it could get.
  5. Posting here. If it is, he is losing friends fast. http://southernmiss.rivals.com/showmsg.asp...3293175&style=1
  6. Nix would never leave the job he has at South Carolina for the UNT job. He has a much bigger future awaiting him. He is learning from the Ol' Ball Coach right now and when he makes his move, it will be a big one.
  7. UNT guys, Randy Butler is a great guy and a solid coach. That being said, he is not going to be your next coach. All you need to know is that he has never been a coordinator and if Bower retired at USM, Butler would get a courtesy interview, but would not have a snow ball's chance in hell of getting the USM job. I have a feeling that this is Ricky doing an old friend a favor, nothing more.

  9. Your next head coach is not coming from USM. The only coach on our staff that has head coaching potential is Jay Hopson, our defensive coordinator, but he is a few years off from being ready. No way Randy Butler is head coaching material. Nice guy, good coach, but not a head coach. Nix wouldn't leave South Carolina for the UNT job. Good luck in your search. Dodge sounds like a good hire to me.
  10. Just calling it like I saw it. I remember UNT fans being awfully cocky before our bowl game. Actually ASU gave us a much better game. USM is only three years removed from a CUSA title. I look to be in the championship game this year. USM has 12, soom to be 13 straight winning seasons and has been to bowl games 8 out of the last 9 years. Sure we have had a drop off lately, but unlike UNT, in our bad years we still have winning seasons and go to bowl games. When UNT falls off, you fall off the end of the world. ASU is an up and coming program. I am impressed with their program under Roberts. He coached circles around your coach Saturday night. Meanwhile UNT is in freefall. Sorry you don't like facing the facts. But that is the cold, hard truth.
  11. I was in northeast Arkansas on business this weekend and had an invite to the game tonight. Since USM has played UNT and Ark State the last two years in the N.O. Bowl, I was intrigued by the matchup. Well, no doubt about it, ASU has a far better team than UNT does now. I was impressed with their overall team and their crowd was loud and into the game tonight. UNT has fallen far since our N.O. Bowl matchup and ASU has improved. What has happened in Denton? I would think UNT should have big advantages over ASU, but evidently not.
  12. Your conference embarrassed itself bigtime tonight with the disgraceful job done by the Sun Belt refs in the Nebraska/Michigan game. It was just plain pitiful.
  13. in our two N.O. Bowl games. UNT was pushed all over the field by USM, but ASU actually put up a good fight. ASU earned some real respect from USM fans. All the talk by those on this board last year about how great UNT was and you sucked. Meanwhile ASU fans showed some real class and played us a great game. By the way, nice season in Denton this year. Impressive.
