  1. Page 11C of today's DMN (they have their recruiting lists on that page). Like I said, when I first posted this....don't know if the commitment is true or not, since it's not been confirmed (yet).
  2. http://dallasnews.rivals.com/viewprospect....049&Sport=1
  3. Also, as I recall.....Malcolm held our record (for many years), for most rushing yards in a game. I think it was 207. If I'm not mistaken, I think that record was first broken by Cedric Cromer in 1995 (versus Idaho State). I think that record is now held by J-Mo....but I may be wrong. Anyway, Malcom was great. Sadly, he died young, working on an oil rig (as I recall).
  4. That commitment to UTEP came way back in July....so I could definitely see the kid changing his mind. (that was in the pre-TD days at UNT, for one thing). Secondly, I hope the guy is 5 ' 6". I love those little scat back types. We have had some great small RBs in the past (Malcolm Jones was maybe 5' 7"....Carlen Charleston was only 5 5".
  5. Texas Football lists this kid as 5 ' 10"....but it also says he runs a 4.28 (40). Like I said, I had never heard of his committing to us, until I read the Area 100 list today. So, I wonder if that info is correct.
  6. I hadn't heard about this RB from Duncanville...Vernon Frazier. He's 5' 6", 152.....and is the 92nd rated player on the DMN Area 100. It shows him today as having committed to North Texas. Is that right???? If so, anyone know anything about him?
  7. Scotty.....Bill Mercer was the radio voice of the Cowboys in 1971....and left to become the Rangers play by play man, their first season in 1972. (Mercer broke Don Drysdale into broadcasting as he was also a part of the Rangers' first ever radio team (along with the late Dick Risenhoover).
  8. Don't worry. Whoever had posted that, had misread it (on the Dave Campbell Texas Football website). I think he posted that he read that "UNT has pulled a commitment from Jesse Desoto." Whereas, it actually stated "UNT has pulled IN a commitment from Jesse Desoto." It was a misunderstanding...thanfully Mr. Desoto is still committed to UNT. Kudos to Zeke, for checking the DCTF website, and making the correction...
  9. Harry.....NT80 checked on GGI (Rick) the other day. He told me that Rick and his wife are both fine. The reason that GG hasn't been posting: computer woes.
  10. (He's the latest front runner. Not in the mix: Randy Butler): IRVING, Texas -- Miami Dolphins quarterbacks coach Jason Garrett, a former Dallas quarterback, interviewed Wednesday with the Cowboys for their vacant offensive coordinator and head coaching positions. Garrett was the first outside candidate to visit Valley Ranch since Bill Parcells retired Monday after four seasons with the Cowboys, ending a 19-year coaching tenure that included two Super Bowl champoinships with the New York Giants. Cowboys spokesman Brett Daniels confirmed that Garrett, who earned three Super Bowl rings in Dallas as a backup to Hall of Famer Troy Aikman, was in town for an interview. The Dolphins granted permission for the Cowboys to talk to Garrett, who left the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Ala., to visit with Dallas owner Jerry Jones and other team officials. According to a league source, the Dolphins have insisted the Cowboys make a decision by Thursday. Team sources told ESPN's Ed Werder that Garrett impressed Jones and team vice president Stephen Jones and has emerged as the top candidate for both the offensive coordinator and head coaching positions. Garrett also met separately with Parcells. Garrett spent the last two seasons coaching Miami's quarterbacks. He played for the Cowboys from 1993-99, appearing in 23 games (nine starts). He also played for the Giants, Tampa Bay and Miami. Garrett retired in 2004. Garrett's father, Jim, was a longtime scout for the Cowboys. The Cowboys haven't had an offensive coordinator since Maruice Carthon served in that role under Parcells in 2004. This season, assistant head coach Tony Sparano coached running backs and the offensive line and receivers coach Todd Haley was the passing game coordinator. Jones earlier this week spoke to Sparano, Haley and secondary coach Todd Bowles, a candidate to replace Mike Zimmer as defensive coordinator, about the head coaching job. The Cowboys also have permission to interview San Diego defensive coordinator Wade Phillips, though no meeting has been scheduled. Phillips, who was in Mobile scouting Senior Bowl practices, said he hadn't heard from anybody yet, including the Cowboys. "If it's true, we'll just go on with the process and see what happens," Phillips told The Associated Press by telephone. "I've got a great job where I am and a great football team. I wasn't looking for anything, but I've always wanted to do what I can do as a head coach, and Dallas is certainly a premier job." The Cowboys have declared that finding the coaches who can develop young Pro Bowl quarterback Tony Romo is a point of emphasis in replacing Parcells.
  11. Green Mean....I might could relate to what Darrell's going through, if the next time I get fired from a job, my employer gives me $500,000. But, until then....
  12. Edited, as I realize there's no use arguing with a.............
  13. JJT....being moved from the Cowboy beat to Opinion columns, at least gives the DMN one sports editorialist who has balls. Sherrington and Cowlishaw never go after anyone. Jean Jaques is easily my favorite sports writer at that paper.
  14. I see one big positive at USU: Dickey's there, and not at UNT. That's a huge freakin' positive.
  15. Well he also had the job locked up his junior year....didn't he? And last season, he wasn't up to what he was his freshman year. So, having the job, didn't seem to help last year. I think though in 2007, that we'll see a motivated J-Mo, finish his career with a bang. I think he'll have a great senior year, and be drafted by the NFL in April 2008. And I agree with bowler...competition is good. And looks to me like we have quality RBs lined up: senior--Jamario; junior--Cam Montgomery; soph---Evan Robertson; freshman---Micah Moseley.
  16. GMG 1999 posted on the Voy Board that Fox 4 is reporting that Jerry is meeting with Bob Stoops (tonight). Hope that is true... And, that's who I voted for.....
  17. Jay Dub is correct, it's Atlanta, Texas (a town, with a 3A school about 20 miles southwest of Texarkana). As a matter of fact, today's Texarkana paper had their all area teams. Anyway, Marqueese was named 1st team defense for the All-Northeast Texas Team (Texarkana Gazette).
  18. Great stats. Yeah, we're not just running into a rash of hot teams. Our lousy "D" is making those teams hot.
  19. Once again....JJ referred to a sub .500 opponent as a "great team." In his post game show, he called FAU (our Saturday opponent) a "great team." That crap gets really old. Also, Hank and Steve pointed out during the broadcast that JJ is putting out the word that, because of our OOC success, our team has "bullseyes on their chests", and thus we get every opponents' best game. Who's he freakin' kidding?
  20. 12-6 is the exact same record that we had last season (after 18 games). But then, we were 5-2 in league play....not 3-4. JJ will NEVER take us to the NIT or NCAA tournament. He's a good guy, decent recruiter, but he's a lousy game coach.

    Fyi

I think G Money, that the name mentioned for our HC job was Tyrone Nix, the DC at South Carolina. If I'm not mistaken, Derrick is his brother.....
  22. Todd Dodge is a legend there. I believe in the old rule, "You don't want to be the guy who follows the legend....you want to be the guy who follows the guy who follows the legend." Ever heard of Phil Bengston?
  23. I've seen the movie, "Hoosiers"....a lot. Maybe 20 times. Just wondering has JJ ever: 1) taken out a tape measure, and measured the height of the basket, when we are on the road, just to let the kids know that the baskets at Nicholls State or FIU, are the exact same height as the ones at the Fabulous Super Pit?? (Okay, bad example....because the baskets at FIU and NSU might be 9 and a half feet, for all we know). But, has JJ ever considered: 2) Playing 4-on-5 just to make an example. (Even though there was a 5th eligible player still on the bench?) 3) How come JJ doesn't carry a little booklet in his hand (a little bigger than a checkbook).......when he's on the bench? Gene Hackman's character did. 4) Is there a great player in Denton named Jimmy, who is just waiting to join the team? Maybe if we all meet at City Hall or somewhere, and vote on firing JJ....then Jimmy will stand up and announce that he will start playing for us....that is, if we don't fire JJ. It's possible. 5) Maybe we should consider letting a team manager, who is really horrible at shooting free throws....play in a game or two. These things worked for the Hickory Huskers.....so they might, just might, work for the Mean Green. Note: If we do follow the Hickory Huskers model....I volunteer to be the town drunk, who is in rehab during the (NCAA) Championship game.
  24. If that Oklahoma game date is right.....that means we're playing them on a Sunday (Labor Day weekend). That's possible.....but the only reason you would do that is for TV. Are you sure about that date of 9/2????? just wondering
  25. Our own Mean Joe Green, is featured in a new television commercial for L.A. Weight Loss Clinics. "Too Tall Jones" is in another ad for that company. Anyone else seen the ad?
