  1. UTA's last football coach, was a legend from the high school ranks (Chuck Curtis). He actually did fairly well there (I think he beat us a time or two...back when we were both in the Southland).
  2. Some of the younger fans may not know this, but: Roger won the Heisman Trophy in 1963.....and upon graduation....spent four years serving in the Navy. He didn't begin his NFL career until he was 26 or 27. So, to be away from the game of football for four years, start his NFL career at the age of 26/27.....and to still make the NFL Hall of Fame, is just another reason why some of us long-time Cowboy fans think so highly of the man. Trivia question: Who caught the very last pass which Roger threw in the NFL???
  3. Gray Eagle ole pal.......JJ's record when you take out the NAIA/Div.II wins is 13-9. And overall, after almost 6 years on the job....he's still sub .500. And his career record is way under .500 when you take out all of the NAIA/Division II wins. Heck, he's had 9 of those alone, in the last three years.
  4. Maybe honor is too strong of a word. I realize that he didn't go to UNT. But what makes this game (Navy) so special to me, is that it's not just about UNT. Heck, these kids that will playing for Navy that day, may one day be putting their lives on the line, to defend us all. So, that's why flyovers, Navy choirs, etc. to me are all good ideas----heck, I'm an American first, North Texas fan second. That being said...I'll be pulling like heck for us to win the game. And as to Mr. Staubach....he and Dodge have a connection. Shortly after TD was hired, a story circulated on the boards, about a speaking engagement where both Todd and Roger were speaking to some group of executives. Long story short, the sort of unknown (to the execs) Dodge, wowed the crowd so much, that he ended up getting a standing O. Roger's first line during his speech was something like, "How do you follow a guy who's 59-1?" (or whatever Todd's record was at SLC at the time). So, Todd and Roger know each other. Roger is probably a multi-millionaire.....who knows if you do recognize, honor him...have him in the President's Box.....whatever).....he might decide to make UNT his "metroplex" team. Just my thoughts.....
  5. Anything done that honors our Navy heroes....is a great move IMHO. As to my idea about us honoring Roger Staubach....maybe we could also include Mean Joe Greene at the game, and honor two football greats (maybe they could be on the field for the coin flip, with their respective teams). After all, Joe and Roger played against each other in two different classic Super Bowl Games. Anyway, just a thought.
  6. Very funny stuff. Glad that you Ags have a coach who's a "rock star." Ours plays polka music on an accordion.
  7. I know this isn't NT football related....just wanted to alert folks that they are profiling our own Ms. Norah Jones. I think it will be the third segment tonight. To the moderator: Feel free to remove this thread....after the show's over. sumg
  8. I could name 50....and you've probably never heard of any of them (even though many of them would be household names to most college basketball fans). After all, you had never even heard of Jimmy Gales. Arguing basketball with you...makes about as much sense as getting into a political discussion with kids at Chuck E. Cheese. p.s. If you really want me to name coaches who have turned programs around quickly...I will. Just make sure you're ready to go "Google" their names.
  9. Well we're ahead of two others...just in our division. (We should be ahead of ULM.... 4-9 is a better record than 4-10. Plus, in the East....we're tied with Troy (technically....not sure who won the head to head matchup). Plus, South Bama is catchable. So, we're no where near the last seed....and could if things, worked out right....even move into position to host a game. Seeds 4-8 play a home game, and seeds 9-13 go on the road (1st round). As of right now....we'd be either the 9th or 10th seed.
  10. They DO take every team in the SBC tournament....and we're not even close to being the last seed.
  11. The remaining four games are winnable. ULL and Denver, both pretty bad...are the road games. UALR and ASU, at home. (Yes, I know they both beat us badly in Arkansas....but in Denton, it should be a different story). All I'm saying....a good coach could easily win out...in regular season. We'll see what JJ does.
  12. ULM has only one senior on their roster (and he only played three minutes). They are predominately juniors and sophomores. So, they may be pretty good next year, too. As for the black jerseys...I hate them. I believe in traditions, and our school colors are green and white. Not black, or purple, or orange, or mauve or turquoise. Frickin' green and white.
  13. ULM's coach is in only his second year, and has his team leading the Western Division. (And trust me, we have a better facility, are in a better area for recruiting, and I would bet we have a bigger basketball budget). But one thing in ULM's favor....their coach probably doesn't think it takes 7-8 years to build a program.
  14. As far as I can tell.....our best year in Attendance ever was 1997...with an average of 19,704. That is the year we hosted A & M at Texas Stadium and drew over 45,000. Our best year attendance-wise at Fouts (with all HOME games at Fouts) was 1994: 19,517. I think we can (and will) set a new attendance record (average) this year.
  15. Yeah, that is great, great news. Thanks for the confirmation, gregory. And, I noticed that the date (November 10) is when Navy was originally scheduled to play @ Bowling Green. So, that leads me to believe, that this move, might have been the payoff from the MAC....for the game they owed us. Great news.
  16. Coach Todd Dodge told the audience on that radio show in Beaumont that he was only going to sign one QB. I'm not sure if Giovanni had committed to us by then or not. But, once GV committed....Todd stayed committed to him. He didn't, as some desired, go after the Austin Westlake quarterback, because that would have been going back on his word to GV. That to me, tells me all I need to know about Todd. And personally, I don't give a rat's patoot, about how the Insall situation was handled. That kid, his dad and the high school coach blew this thing way out of proportion. I blame the h.s. coach for a lot of it. (Because he seemed to think that just because Art Briles held two schollies for two players at Houston, that that is the way it's done everywhere. It isn't). Finally, I've very thankful that we have Coach Dodge...I think he's going to be a great coach for us. GMG!
  17. Finally you posted something I agree with.
  18. If this is true and I hope that it is.................. We have the greatest NAVY player of all time in the Metroplex. UNT Athletics should HONOR ROGER STAUBACH at the game. Whadda ya think?
  19. There were two MAC schools on that Navy schedule. (Ball State--home; at Bowling Green). The MAC owes us a game, so maybe there was some kind of trade off. Don't know....just speculating...
  20. Since it's only a 30 minute show, they don't have too much time to say that much about any school. Randy Rogers (dad of one of our former players) was the recruiting expert. He was very complimentary of what Todd has done. And as Scotty474 pointed out, he singled out our receivers. He did point out that Marcus King came from a program which didn't throw the ball much, but that when you did throw to him...he made things happen. Early in the show....they showed Brandon Jackson making a catch against UT (from last season). All in all, it was pretty good. They definitely gave us as much or more coverage than the other non-BCS schools which they covered.
  21. I just checked my DirecTV listings....and the show is on. 6:30-7.......on Fox SW.
  22. Hey....don't hold me to this (if it's not on this year). But usually on Signing Date....Fox Sports SW, does a recruiting wrap up show. It usually is at 6:30, as I recall. They go over all the Texas schools, LSU, Oklahoma and OSU and Arkansas. Bobby Burton is usually on the show. I can't find their schedule for today.....but if you're around a TV at 6:30....you might want to turn that channel on, just in case they are doing the recruiting show again this year.
  23. Haven't had a chance to look at them all yet.....but I did see that Marquese Davis will be playing in the Oil Bowl. http://www.meangreensports.com/ViewArticle...p;ATCLID=787592
  24. I'm assuming that JUCO running back, Cam Montgomery....is with us. His name wasn't announced today. Since he's a juco, did he enroll at mid-semester, and that's why his name wasn't announced???? Anyone know??
