  1. Any nationally ranked athlete has to have a reason to play anywhere. A lot of the time they go to a school to play for a specific coach. In this case, the coach he wanted to play for was his father. I don't understand why this is different from other recruits.
  2. Is this really titled correctly? A rookie head coach would be a coach in their first year being a head coach. This is coaches in their first year with a new team. Not the same thing. There is no way Nick Saban is a rookie. This would put Bobby Petrino as a rookie coach next year, and that is just comical.
  3. What does this do to a family with three kids? Do we really need to make people supporting a larger family pay more for decent seats? Doesn't really add to the family atmosphere.
  4. How can they possibly rank anybody at this point? One would think that they should wait until after signing day to see if teams have any impact freshmen coming in.
  5. Did someone say Johnny Cash? Let's all drink a beer for Johnny Cash!
  6. But with a stadium of that size, wouldn't you be far from the action? And wouldn't you feel disconnected from the game? And wouldn't it be hard for cameras to get good angles for TV? If that's the case, then we should keep what we have and avoid the ~54,984,000 empty seats every game.
  7. By that logic, we would have 6 home games. I don't know how many times that has happened lately, but not many. What we really need is to be more like LSU and Florida nad shoot for 8 home games every year. I think that will really help our situation.
  8. Date looks good to me. I am in, and hopefully won't get stuck covering a guy 4-6 inches taller than me and playing jump ball. At least we won, right Emmitt.
  9. The arguement isn't if the teams can consistently compete right now. If the little guy isn't allowed in, then why play? A chance at a meaningless bowl win? If a coach can pitch winning a conference and having a chance to play for the national title, parity is likely to come sooner. If the little guy has to wait for 1 of 2 at large spots, then they are not likely to get in. There are currently 4 at large bids to the Bc$ and in order for a mid-major to get a bid, they have to be undefeated. How can we, as a little guy, expect a shot at 1 of 2 spaces with those kinds of odds in a biased system. A playoff that includes a chance for everyone is the most fair way to determine the national champion. Besides, it works ok in basketball, and no one is complaining about that.
  10. This year, I think everyone is going to have a claim at the national title. No one was undefeated and no one was winless....
  11. I don't sunscribe to the Field of Dreams philosophy. A new stadium will increase attendance, but it will only be incremental in the long term if we aren't winning. Our fan base has proven that, beyond the hardcore (see GoMeanGreen.com members), they very quick to tune out when things are going badly. We had a lot of excitement this year with a new head coach and an exciting system. Once the New Stadium Smell goes away, if we don't have more in the win column, then we won't have a drastic increase in attendance. Wins put fans in seats, not a nicer seat.
  12. You need to remember, this team in being run on favorites right now. Chatman was a backup on the Chargers when Cameron was an assistant there. He brought him back to the league from sitting out with (over)weight problems. Cameron is more interested in his guys, than the best guys. Or at least, that's how it looks.
  13. I wouldn't say that a playoff would take away power from the big conferences. The much discussed 8 team playoff would, if anything, enhance their power. The 6 BC$ conferences get 1 auto bid into the playoff, and the other 2 spots at-large. That system would make it harder for a mid-major to get in. Contractual obligations would mean that only an at-large bid would get them in. And, as we have seen, that can be hard to get. But they definately think they are better than everyone else, no arguement there.
  14. TFLF, you make an excellent point, but you could even argue to take it even farther. No coach in a BCS Conference as well as previous year top 25. This would also keep the other schools in those conferences from giving a boost to their conference to make their team look better (see Michigan State voting Illinois). This would definately put a little more respect in the BCS. Don't needlessly blow out a school that might hurt you later with a vote.
  15. It's easy enough to argue with the "Dodge was a mistake" statement. We don't have an answer to that yet. Come back to me in three years, then we can have a discussion about a mistake. One bad season doesn't mean that Dodge was a bad hire.
  16. And if history is any indicator, the most likely one.
  17. Too bad you have to be a student. It would be nice to write our own "special message" to FAU.
  18. Does every thread have to go to "I wish we had a new stadium, and we should just do this, and all of our problems would be solved" talk? Do we not all agree that things are being done to get a new stadium? Will proposing new ideas that the people who are in the driver's seat will never see, help? Do we really believe that a new stadium will bring us up to the BCS level? I really hope that when the new stadium is finally built, whenever that is, we don't have this Field of Dreams philosophy. A new stadium would be great, but it won't make us a D1-A (FBS, whatever we call it now) powerhouse.
  19. I agree most everything you said except this. If we can get to 12, then it can make a lot of sense. Not having to travel every year to F_U would be a plus. Adding teams that help us regionally would be nice. But the recruiting competition isn't the best thing for us either. Not that we can stop them. And if they do move up, having them as a conference opponent would be best, since we can compete on the field and (hopefully) outplay them, thus helping our recruiting against them.
  20. Umbrellas haven't been allowed for awhile now, no suprise there. I doubt in that weather it would have made much difference. Good luck getting the parking situation fixed. This has been a complaint for a few years now, and nothing has changed. In fact, it seems to have gotten worse as the problem seems to be expanding.
  21. So what you're saying is according to a reliable source, through other sources whose reliability may be questionable, we have the whispers that something could be going on, but we aren't sure what is happening, if it's happening. That seems like Michael Moore logic to me, and I don't know how much I trust that. No offense to your cat, of course.
  22. I expect the following: 1) Win some conference championships. Not every one, but I want to be in the hunt every year. 2) Play spoiler. Upset TU, A$M, and those types sometimes, and make them look overrated when we aren't winning. 3) Be bowl eligible. If we aren't winning the conference, then being 7-5 (or better) and able to go bowling is fine by me. Not all of these would need to be hit every year for me to be a happy fan, but some consistency is what I am most looking for.
