  1. Not just from still photos, but from intense Dallas media coverage and comments of new coach who is absolutely dominating Texas HS recruiting. " To beat us you'll have to kill us". Preston Line will follow in his brother's footsteps. The A$M transfer QB far outshines any we can put on the field. They are pissed off about last year and sandwiched between BU and TCU, this is a MUST win game for SMU! The old adage that a team improves most from its first game to its second will come into play here. BU will be a strong home test for them, while we will have no idea of what we can do having only played" Open Date University". Maybe we learn enough from this non-rivalry game according to Mac that we play better against Rice, but I feel putting SMU in the automatic "W" column is a very dangerous assumption. We have not won in their on campus stadium anytime in the modern era. If we don' t come to play our best game, and Mac continues to say this is a " non-rivalry" game, we are in big trouble.
  2. Letter from Dr. S said " he liked winning teams and winning coaches". Not much of either since he has been here. Changes due?
  3. No tv for this game so dress for spirit not for your TV presence Can we bring in the NT LONE STAR FLAG?
  4. also they don't call TAM COMMERCE EASY T for no reason. Academics will be really dumbed down to his liking
  5. biggest crowds in UNT history have been in Dallas. HOD Bowl was latest example. People in Dallas have a pulse unlike the old nesters of little "d" !!!!!
  6. Defense and special teams can give you a big boost. That is one thing I took away from attending 11 of the 13 games in the 2013 season. Also a good o line can really help a QB look greatly improved. My biggest problem with Mini Mac is his height and he isn't going to get any taller!
  7. I thought SMU looked athletic, lean, good fundamentals and an intense coaching staff. Anyone on this board putting this game as an easy "W" is going to be rudely awakened come game time!!
  8. In'13 season Tulane was after a bye if I recall correctly.
  9. These schools have the highest student fees in the conference and FIU is considerably larger than UNT. It does not take rocket science to see why they can pay more. I really think the whole thing is an absurd entitlement forced on everyone else by the P5 just to gig the G5 a little more hoping that many of our group will go away leaving more of the TV pie for the greedy P5 schools.
  10. What am I seeing in Connor Means that no one else does. The kid is 6 foot 4 inches with a sturdy frame. He has been here for two springs and two full seasons. He should know the system and be ready to go. Both spring games he was the QB on the least talented teams yet he made it competitive. How can he be ranked behind Greer who has been a bust and DeMarcus Smith who may not stay academically eligible and is still learning the offense. I say Means needs playing time this year, when Mini Mac falters. What am I not seeing here?
  11. Quote in this morning's DAMN from SMU Coach Chad Morris " When you step on that field you are going to have to kill us to beat us"!!! Wasn't boot camp's slogan for UNT "Hunt,Kill,Eat"? SMU says they have hit more this fall than in the last 5 years combined. This will be a very PHYSICAL GAME.
  12. My grandson and I had lunch with him in dorm cafeteria last summer when the grandson was here in July for football camp. Great manners, enthusiastic, very football savy. My grandson was blown away to meet a player like that!
  13. these definitely would require a guarantee that the athletic dept. could afford
  14. The main point is that it would give seed money for broader advertising, increased travel for coaches to recruit, and funds for the new student athlete stipend (which I as you feel is an entitlement issue which the P5 forced). These all indirectly influence attendance by putting a better product on the field. Everyone sees what we paid Idaho for a home opener. Guarantees for a P5 would make that look paltry in comparison. All such a fee increase would do is keep us in a competitive postion with what our peers in this state (with who we are asked to compete) are charging now and have been for several years.
  15. It is hard to schedule anything other than mid majors and FCS with our pitiful attendance. Guarantees for a one and one with a P5 would break the bank. Now if we had the funds from a decent student athletic fee like other comparable universities with whom we are asked to compete then you have a whole different situation.
  16. I hate to say it but the youth and passion of Morris make this an entirely different team from 2014. They were embarrassed by what they feel is a far inferior opponent and they will not stand for two home losses in a row after the opener with BU. I just don't think our coaches, players , or students realize the significance of this game and how much harder it will be to win @ Ford Stadium.
  17. I would say with our current funding for athletics the SLC is where we belong! Get a comparable student athletic fee to TXST@San Macos and a home and home series would be good for us both. Since you can never depend on the city of Denton or its tight fisted merchants for support, it takes giving from interested alumni and student fees to compete in our own backyard. I again ask the rhetorical question " Why does our BOR fear the students?" Especially when other state schools in Texas charge a reasonable student athletic fee of $20 to $25 per semester hour.
  18. I voted SMU, but on second thought Denton and our students are much more long term rivals. With the new coach SMU will become an opportunity/body bag game very soon. See prceeding sentence for the reason.
  19. New coach will have SMU ready. Mac views this as a "non-rivalry" game, SMU by 7 at home (UNT has never won at an SMU home stadium--Texas Stadium was a neutral site)
  20. I agree that the P5 have presented Anti-Trust in its definition. I would think the G5 have a very viable lawsuit. I also agree with your student fee comment on the previous thread. You can bet any increase in student fee will be modest at best in 2016. We like bragging rights to being the cheapest ride anywhere. No mention of you get what you pay for and cheapest is not the best. Why BOR and admins fear the students is ludicrous. No other university comparable or even lower for that matter lets trepidation of its students be a factor in raising student athletic fees. If they don't agree, they are free to leave for what they find to be cheaper. Unless they go to Western Governors University, they WILL NOT find a cheaper venue even with a fee increase.
  21. I thought DT was the offensive coordinator at Celina for 2015, and no longer with Denton High
  22. UNT chooses to further tap the athletic budget and force the dept. to further tap the donors and supporters rather than charging a reasonable student athletic fee like our CUSA competition. With this manner of thought we can never compete in CUSA!
