  1. You are right, but as someone else said earlier, they are required to be there for their degree. It is nothing aginst the band, they are great, but they are so loud that there is not reason they need to be on the 50. Instead we could have rowdy as heck students there making all kinds of noise right behind the opponent bench. The band should go around the 20 yard line, just like they were at Fouts.
  2. The problem is that the students are the ones who paid for those seats. Plus, I cannot find one other example of a school that puts their band at the 50 yard line. The band is going to be loud no matter where they are...so why take those seats away from rowdy students that are going to relentlessly heckle the opposing team non-stop, and put a band there that can only play when the game-play is stopped.
  3. That is the sentiment I was trying to get across, you just did a much better job of it than I did. Up at K-State a couple years ago, they had their band sitting around the 10 yard line, and at Arkansas in 2007, their band sat in the corner of the endzone. With how big our band is, the 50-yard line seats are not, in my opinion the place to put them.
  4. The band does a great job, I just don't think the 50-yard line is the place for them. I am clearly in the minority . I think the location that they had in Fouts was perfect, and with how much closer they will be to the opposing team in the new stadium, I just don't see why the shift is necessary. It seems like most schools either put the band in the endzone, or in a corner. I'm not saying we have to be like "most schools" and would prefer that we dont, the band just doesn't need prime seating in my opinion.
  5. When I was in high school, if one of our teams was playing in a State Title game, we just had a half day of school then all got on buses to go to the game.
  6. I suppose my statement is easily taken out of context. Haha.
  7. I am still a little confused about putting the band on the 50 yard line...yes it will be loud, but they should shift the band off to the side and give those midfield seats to the students. The band at Fouts sat on maybe the 25-30 yard line. With the size of the band particularly, it is just an odd place to put them.
  8. Way too much black for me. If black is an accent color that's fine, but our colors are green and white.
  9. Troy only had an attendance of 423 for their SBC opener against FAU. That brings their average to 1407. A couple more crowds like that for Troy, and FAU won't be in last place for attendance anymore.
  10. It's not about being in a little box, or not thinking outside of it. The color scheme has been a very important part of the UNT branding for the last several years. Not just UNT athletics. You don't just up and change that because a new coach is hired. We finally found something that works, and looks good in the stands. Give Coach Mac full authority to change the design, but we really cannot afford another shade change. Even the signs for the buildings on campus were changed a couple years ago from hunter green to kelly green.
  11. The design does not really matter to me as long as we keep the same shade of green. The athletic department has branded itself the last few years using that shade of green. Mccarney should not be allowed to mess with the color at all. The design is fair game though. AND NO ALL BLACK UNI'S!
  12. I was just showing that there is a precedent for crowds near 30k. We had over 28,000 for a game against Baylor in 2000 as well. EDIT: By the way, I will be very disappointed if it does not sell out, and if it doesn't I suppose I will eat my words and my optimism...
  13. Well, we HAVE come close to 30k before. We had 29,437 in attendance for a game against Baylor on 9/6/03. Here is a link to the article: Mean Green Sports. Yes, that was during our SBC championship years, but our fanbase now is bigger and healthier despite the losing. Add a new stadium, an exciting new coach that will get the students excited, and an opponent that will have a couple thousand fans at least, and you have a sell out of at least 30k. I have talked to people that never gave a damn about UNT athletics while they were in school, and they can't wait to come back for this opening game. When we have 100k alumni in the metroplex, you bet there will be enough to fill that stadium for at least the first game.
  14. With a coach of his skill, a team that is not completely lacking talent, and the fact that we play in the Sun Belt, I am hoping for a 6-6 season. I would not be upset at all with 5-7 though, considering we have not won more than 3 games in a season since 2004.
  15. I disagree, the first game in the new stadium will 100% be a sell out. Houston will have plenty of fans, as will we for the first game, and there will also be people from the community that will come out to see the "first game in a new stadium"...in addition to that, Mccarney is going to reach out to the students like never before, as well as the community...Dodge never did that. Will we sell out a game other than Houston next year? Not unless we are winning, and the chances are slim even if we are, but the first game will be a standing room only sellout of 32,000 or so.
  16. The MSU guy that wrote that forgot to consider the immense benefit of living in Texas instead of Montana...
  17. That is small-time thinking...If we are going to raid the DCCCD, we should totally go after Brookhaven. Solid name recognition, impeccable location, and they would add a ferocious new mascot to the SBC (bears). Go big or go home right?....
  18. I had some free time the other morning so I decided to make a spreadsheet for calculating the basketball attendance averages for the Sun Belt teams. The averages only count "true" home games, and not attendance for tournament games played at neutral sites. We are in second place averaging over 3,600, but are nearly 1,000/game behind WKU. If anyone wants this excel spreadsheet, just send me a PM with your e-mail.
  19. Wow, I had a brain fart. The record I was thinking of was the 08-09 record of 20-12. I think if we ended the regular season with 8 losses it would be a disappointment.
  20. We are not saying you are not proud of your school...but, you have provided one instance of someone putting down TCU, and that post about "enough seats remaining for the TCU fanbase" was clearly a joke. You are either WAY, WAY too sensitive, or just looney. We are damn proud of our school, just like you are, which is why we are defending it. The interesting thing here is that you came on here and "defended" your school, completely and utterly unprovoked, in a thread discussing a documentary about SMU...now you tell me how we are the ones that don't get it.
  21. NT up 61-56 with 38.4 seconds left! CMJ, get that picture of McConnell tower ready.
  22. NT up 56-54 with 3:05 left. NSU to the line for 2 shots.
