  1. Miles is leaving for Michigan, I'm almost certain. And I would LOVE to see the meltdown in Bama Nation if Saban left after 1 lackluster year.
  2. Not if he keeped on beating Alabama. The guy is 7-2 against the Tide. Should he go I think A&M needs to back out of that new series they just signed - and LSU might be in for a world of hurt in that series. I think Arkansas has a great chance at Tubberville, so I wouldn't worry about it. Arkansas has more big cigars than Auburn does. But hey, I mean I can't blame him if he jumps ship. I'll wish him well in Razorback country.
  3. He was raised in Arkansas, tho he didn't goto school there. Still, it is his home state - so it makes some sense.
  4. Over the last 5 years he has the best record of any SEC coach. And he has a amazing record in games versus Top 5 and Top 10 ranked opponents. Like...I wanna say at least a 75% winning rate.
  5. I would be very disappointed if Tubberville left Auburn as I've had a soft spot for them for years. I'm not sure it's a done deal yet - ESPN reported a few hours ago that it was still just speculation at this point. I actually think he's playing the two schools against each other in some high stakes Poker. But more power to the guy if Arkansas is gonna pay that sorta coin.
  6. Sunbelt goes 1-2 tonight with an absolute heartbreaker for USA. Robert Morris 88 Florida Intl. 61 South Alabama 88 Vanderbilt 91 2OT Tenn-Martin 69 Arkansas St. 71
  7. Just for debate....most of the classic stadiums in the college game are as old - or older than Fouts.
  8. South Alabama and Vandy going to overtime.
  9. FAU's result is somewhat expected. Gooooo Privateers!
  10. Well Plumm, alot more goes into conference shakeups than just football or basketball. And conference shakeups(ala MWC) get discussed on this board, not General(like the very title of this thread perhaps?). In fact this board is more "General" than the General board at times during the offseason(reference logos, color chemes, conference shakeups, etc). So from that point of view, I felt the need to address that you shouldn't talk down to our friends from Bowling Green, Kentucky, America, Planet Earth. And you don't have to accuse me of taking marching orders from anyone. This isn't a vendetta against you I march to my own drummer. Your current Pro-WAC stance has gotten me to respond more right now - but that's just because I disagree vehemently. When you go on and on about a new stadium I just zone out, because quite frankly it isn't a big deal to me yet(we don't deserve a new stadium until we can consistently average more than we do IMHO). But the WAC just screams Big West, which killed us. That, I DO care about. Emmitt can tell you there is no one more stubborn than I am when I decide I'm right. Yes, I'm diplomatic and am not as much as a jackass as some people might be when they argue, but boy do I dig my heels in. You appear the same way. No harm, no foul - we'll just be eyeing each other till some new debates over our color green or uniform start up and I largly ignore the board from April thru August. Don't pretend it's not fun on some frustrating sort of level to debate against someone who is just as bullheaded as you.
  11. You first said NCAA D1 - which could've been all sports - since only football ever seperated Division 1 into two divisions. Then you said D1A football. Obviously it could be read that you were admonishing them on our superiority in all things could it not? That said, since you weren't, I still would not seek to ruffle WKU any more than necessary. We have about a 25 year frame between Odus Mitchell, the MVC, and Hayden Fry that we puff out our chests about. We aren't some sports factory. Yet.
  12. Try reading the basketball board more often. Johnny Jones also has a sleeping who is slowly awakening IMHO. Honestly, these last 6-7 years have been a relative Golden Age for NT athletics. Four conference titles in football. One in basketball. Several in soccer. and we're still moving in the right direction. And as for Pop - I'm sure anyone that has a Yucca from that time period can see him. Amazing how young he looked in the early 70's.
  13. WTF Plumm? I don't think your post was even about mine at all. I was simply responding to saying that the reason we drew so poorly in the BW was because of Dickey - WHO WASN'T EVEN HERE in 96 or '97. And pointing out that in 1995 against a HIGH PROFILE PACIFIC TEN opponent - aka the conference of USC and the freaking ROSE BOWL you could have had just about any seat in the house. Oregon State = High profile game at Fouts = no attendance My point stands...name one school west of say Las Cruces that has ever drawn well to Fouts. Or the SuperPit for that matter. Hell, what about the old Snake Pit.
  14. Don't be preaching "legacy" to Western Kentucky Plumm. They have more history in basketball than we have in all our sports(minus Men's golf) combined.
  15. JJ has a knack for picking up good ones. I have faith it'll continue.
  16. We can also say they aren't aware of the differences between - there their they're
  17. They were a helluva long way from being a Sun Belt team as I recall. Did they ever seriously compete in this league? Nope.

    Why Not?

He also coached at Alabama. Go figure why Auburn doesn't matter to him.
  19. But see, it wasn't the Dickey monster - which gets blamed for everything this side of the Armegeddon around here. Oregon State. Pac-10. That was a pretty sparsely attended game Plumm. Honestly, that's as big a game(arguably bigger) as Baylor was. (I'm using Baylor because the Beavers were down then - like the Bears were when we played them in '03) I think there were a dozen folks in the section we sat in that day - four of them in my party. And Coach Simon wasn't some ultra conservative playcaller. And we we did win a few games in 1996 and 1997(went 5-6 and 4-7). Not good records by any stretch, but not terrible. Better than this year. And we even owned a victory over Tech to juice the crowd excitement. And except for the Homecoming games - ANY Big West opponent was met with a small crowd. NT just doesn't care about anything west of Las Cruces - if that far.
  20. Kind of odd in a way Plumm isn't it? I'd have a much better chance of going to Fresno State or San Jose State than any Sunbelt away games. If we look at basketball, I'd say top to bottom the WAC gets a slight edge actually. I know you've followed the program a long time Plumm. Longer than I've been alive actually. But I have followed the school in some form or fashion for as long as I can remember. Even when it wasn't my "school" when I was a kid growing up(Auburn for football/Duke for basketball - and I still have warm feelings for both) - I still read the sports section in the DRC to see how NT did. And I got a whole lot of earfulls from my folks - BOTH of whom are pretty opinionated on NT athletics, seeing as my Dad ran track and cross country there. I guess i felt the need to give myself some gravitas, since you like to tease us whippersnappers for not being around a long time. ANYWAYS, it basically boils down to this. I saw more support for our programs in the freaking Southland than I did in the Big West. The BW was a disaster. Nobody seemed interested about anyone. I'm sure you recall those years Plumm. I was a student for the whole shebang. We joined the Big West in 1996(my first year as undergrad). We were in it all five years I was on campus. Five terrible years for athletics sans women's basketball for acouple of seasons. The travel killed us. And yes, so did the fact the schools were so far away. Fouts was a mostly a lonely desolate place those years. So was the SuperPit after Trilli's first season proved what a hack he was. I was also at the Oregon State game in 1995 when I was still in High School. OSU of the Pac-10. My memory tells me there were maybe 12K people in the stands when we beat the Beavers that day. It wasn't many. And yes, OSU was bad back then - but that was a name opponent. My point? UNT folks dn't give a damn about anything in the west. And travel will bleed you dry. We'd have to play more money games in football - AND go back to Trilli era scheduling for basketball just to pay the bills. And YES - Miami is far away in the Belt. And yes, the Belt is spread out more than say...the SEC. But it makes geographic sense. Really Denver, FAU, and FIU are the only schools that are a pain to get to from Denton. We'd be flying all over the damn place in the WAC. And not just for football. Everything. Soccer. Track. Swimming. All of it.
  21. And people sure used to attend games when we played Nevada, Idaho, and Boise in the past right? Point of fact our attendance is better now than then.
  22. **Our defense did play rather well at times - especially in the 1st half **We were jacking up ill advised 3's - but that was partially because nearly everytime we threw the ball inside they'd steal it or block our shots Definitely not a memorable one.

  24. Do you really think the WAC will get a BCS bid every year? Which one of those games would you think NT would play in if we were Bowl eligible. Typically Boise State plays in the Humanitarian and Hawaii plays in their home stadium. Should they be eligible - and no better deal comes along those 2 are out of the picture. How'd the Big West work out btw(with many of the same competitors) This is such a tired and circular argument.
