  1. Not pinning the attendance on Seth. But we have to get out of the mindset that just getting to a bowl game is some significant accomplishment when more than half of all FBS. The quality gap between teams G5 with 6-4 wins is minimal. Fans know that and that is why interest was minimal in that bowl game.
  2. How many conference Championships? How many bowls wins (in an era when you can go to bowls at 0.500 or below)? I still see jokes about college football using North Texas as the standard of ineptitude in college football. Top 40% huh? So get a 65% in one of classes of your major which technically passing but a D and you are satisfied? 🙄. We will see how good of a Coordinator Seth is in 2024. As head coach with the highest paid staff in CUSA most of his tenure he was mediocre.
  3. We lost in a Bowl that claimed 12,000 in attendance. There might be more people on campus during the fall semester on an away game Saturday. 🙄. If you were one of the few UNT Football fans who watched or went to the game I applaud your loyal support. But I don’t know what you are saying. They lost to a Boise State program in such good shape their head coach Andy Avalos got fired just a month ago. Bowl games are worthless now more than ever because any of your players that put on an impressive show might use that to jump into the portal. sidebar: I would love to add Andy Avalos to the defensive coaching staff as a replacement in waiting for Caponi.
  4. That would mean that offense and/or special teams regressed. Dead last in total defense (yards allowed) and bottom 3 in every other major defensive stat is about the lowest of the low.
  5. Not sure if this part has anything to do with Roger's next season but I 100% agree with it. Oh and you left out shedding blockers. Most of those missed tackles were devastating because they were the last to lay a hand on the runner for over 10 yards. If you have guys shedding blockers all over the field that doesn't happen so often.
  6. With our defense I absolutely don't want to see a winning team with a good offense. Imagine any QB or RB who is a 4 round draft prospect playing the bowl game against us. Now imagine the team he is on hasn't been on ESPN, ESPN2, or even FS1 all year. He is going to want to show out and the coaches are going to want help him for recruiting purposes. We could have a RB run for 300 yards or a QB pass for 500 yards. And those historic bowl game performances could come within 3 quarters of play. Then if you are stupid enough to not have fired the DC before the game what do you do after the bowl game?
  7. I would like to see all green with color reversed helmet. Green SOW Eagle on solid white helmets. White shoes and socks. May small white flying worms or jersey numbers on the hips of the pants. I think I would need to see a full mock up of my uniform combo suggestion before passionately campaigning for it also.
  8. And you left out bad defensive play calls on key downs.
  9. I think they are seriously trying in a half ass way if they keep him. There isn't this great untapped potential looking at Caponi and the history of the 3-3-5 at G5 level. He would have to come being mentored under Buddy Ryan, Jim Caldwell, Bill Parcells, and Dick LaBeau and highly recommended by most of them to keep him on after this trainwreck. I just don't see the upside we could miss out on by letting him go now.
  10. But it was the wrong defense to line up in. The middle of the field was void ready for a delayed release reciever to catch and run a mile.
  11. I swear when they lined up in that all or nothing defense on 3rd down I wanted to choke Caponi
  12. You mean those meaningless 3 points that would have cut the lead in half at the time? 🤣
  13. So kicking a FG down by 6 in the first half makes no sense but kicking one down by 14 does? I don't understand these coaching decisions.
  14. Yes, I believe many would very surprised to learn we are 75 in NCAA Div 1 revenue (out of over 300 programs). But on the field/court outside of men's basketball women's soccer and softball it has be horrendously mismanaged.
  15. Well it is a double edge sword for me. I love scooping up after market discounted club seats. I couldn't afford them otherwise. But it is sad when you can't successfully beg a friend and fellow alumni to come along for free. 🤦🏽‍♂️
  16. If that is your argument with 5:00 minutes left in the game it makes sense. You never turn down a virtual lock to cut the lead in half in the first 2 quarters of the game.
  17. Not gotten drunk and cursed out big donors and media? 🤷🏽‍♂️. Oh by positive you mean not just avoiding off the field negative stuff. Let me think about for a week and dig into by big bag of HR gibberish and get back to you.
  18. Never thought after the Dodge experiment failed that our team would be so consistently bad on defense. I think you could give them the offensive signals and complete playbook and they would still be below average.
  19. That is in spite of arguably the worse defense in the history of this program. I want the best for this program and a great offense carrying a sub 75th ranked scoring defense is not a winning formula. And mind you that an improvement to 80 for this defense in 2024 would be MASSIVE and I don't think that is a good bet. A brand new good DC hired within 7 days of this comment could get this defense to 80th in scoring even if he implemented a new scheme. I want this program to go to new heights and it hard to imagine them getting there with Caponi rolling a dramatically improved but mediocre defense in the 2025 season. You can't count on Eric Morris or any coach here averaging +35 points per game to cover for a mediocre defense . I understand the conservative logic behind possibly keeping Caponi, but for North Texas at this time I just disagree with being conservative. Going to bowls people never heard of with 4 losses or more does very little for the profile of the program and our school. That is the ceiling I see with Caponi’s 3-3-5.
  20. I quoted this from another thread but it fits right in with this topic. I am no expert but it seems to this defense just doesn’t work without 3 down linemen getting deep penetration on running plays. I think that is the reason this defense is almost never played on traditional running downs in the NFL even when the offense is in a spread formation. Offensive lineman in the NFL will just escort the penetrating defensive so deep they aren’t in the way of the running back. I think it can work at the G5 level which is just another reason to scrap it in my opinion. Because the ultimate realistic goal for any season is getting to the 12 team playoff and winning one game. I don’t think you are ever going to do that with Caponi running the 3-3-5 with the best defensive talent rosters we get here. Say you get a Mean Joe clone great he disrupts the run play but can’t make the tackle every time then you still have the running back in open space at near the line of scrimmage. You essentially turning every run play into looking like a screen pass. That being said the only thing that gives me 5% doubt on firing Caponi is the one year. But here are some questions/considerations for few supporters and the people on the fence: Has there ever been a team that finished in the top 10 in scoring defense running 3-3-5 on 90% of snaps? If not why are we wasting time with any particular coach who can’t adjust and do different things just for one season not to be dead last in almost every defensive category? I highly doubt there has been any DC that started off this bad at program that turned it around to be one of the best in the country by year 3.
  21. Man nice win. If we had a just above mediocre defense this team would either still be in the AAC conference championship picture or just right on the outside looking in. Very well could have been juicy rematch with SMU the only AAC team that blew our doors off.
  22. I am 100% with you on this. Because 7 years in we could objectively point out what Seth did well here. Only after losing a lot did he pivot the team to being run oriented and attempted to fix the defense. An offensive coach, running an air raid variant, who can't develope QB's to be efficient is worthless. I don't know if Morris is the right hire. But any argument that Seth should still be here and would be doing better is pure fantasy.
  23. I am not saying he is a success. But it is beyond stupid not to expect some growing pains this year. Last year's team wasn't good. And arguing going forward with an offensive head coach who couldn't figure out the QB position in 4 years isn't smart. So fire Morris before season over who can you afford to replacement him with? Not only that putting myself in the position of any of the staff you might want to retain, I am leaving and telling everyone this is an all the sudden arrogant but trash program who doesn't have a clue. This team with all it's flaws this year is 3-4 plays from winning those close games. So instead of 7 losses we have 4 or 5 It isn't excuses but suggesting firing a head coach before 18 months on the job it just silly when there weren't lofty expectations of this team before the hire was made.
  24. And Dickey sound have gotten financial support and never fired using that same logic. But a least he had conference titles and a bowl win. 🙄
