  1. I'm all for second chances but a lot of these kids are more trouble than they are worth. Ronald Ollie has already left Nicholls State, John Franklin III will probably never start at Auburn and Kam Carter although talented could care less about football. I wish all these players the best but the payoff doesn't justify bringing in some of these headaches into the locker room.
  2. Frank Wilson may leave within 3 years and when he does UTSA is going to fade away. This "rivalry" is a flash in the pan that will run its course. UTSA needs an instate rival, they need us more than we need them.
  3. You can either repay the amount or if you're unable to, then you're forced to enlist as a Specialist (E4) until your debt is repayed. I believe after your second year, that's when you will owe time or money if you leave or get kicked out of the Academy.

  5. I agree with you to a certain extent but when I mention USC that's what I was referring too. It works only if the region you are associated with has some prestige. Both Southern California and North Texas can be considered a prestigious region. You are right that some directional schools can't pull that off. In North Texas' case it probably regionally recognized more as UNT but if you go outside of that region unfortunately you'll probably have to say North Texas and I'm fine with that.
  6. I don't know....it's worked out pretty well for The University of Southern California. I say why not us! haha
  7. I believe UNT needs to broaden its fan base outside of Denton. It has a campus in Frisco and it is my hope that by establishing a broader regional fan base it may bring in more "attentive fans" but this has to come with sustained community outreach on the part of the university. I do like the idea of players being visible at charities or events in Denton, it goes a long way at establishing some kind of relationship within the community. Other ideas I would like to see implemented would be a concert after the game, a fireworks show for the kids, a partnership with the new convention center for discounted rates for alumni from out of town. I would also love to see a throwback night with the old flying worm helmets. Maybe even have themes for games (maybe too bush league) Just small ideas. I also believe that because Denton's high school teams have all been good at one time or another while UNT has had many losing seasons....support has not been able to take root like it should have IMHO.
  8. Wren Baker outlined an upcoming Athletic Facilities Master Plan for UNT. From what I've read it was suppose to come out in June but still nothing. Any word on why there is a delay? http://www.meangreensports.com/sports/mg-club/spec-rel/030117aaa.html
  9. Agreed, I believe the win over Cincinnati in the New Orleans Bowl was UNT's last major victory IMHO.
  10. Agreed. I'm hoping for another bowl birth and if we get in on a technicality so be it.
  11. I don't believe playing Liberty would tarnish our image, by following your metric would playing Baylor tarnish UNT? What about any university associated with the Catholic Church? Lets judge Liberty (no pun intended) on its emerging athletic program and leave the politics to the talking heads. Agreed politics aside they are spending a lot of money AND have a fan base willing to pay to see the athletic program succeed. I wouldn't call this a must win but if UNT were to lose it would look bad. Forgive me if I sound hyperbolic.
  12. Interestingly enough Ian McCaw, former AD at Baylor, is now the AD at Liberty.
  13. Liberty University is not messing around. https://pilotonline.com/sports/columnist/harry-minium/liberty-university-already-spends-more-on-athletics-than-odu-and/article_ce714ec9-31db-5420-8e4b-ce63bc2e2474.html
  14. I think since the UTSA program is so new some might see it as premature? Another factor might be that UNT is 1-3 against UTSA and to declare a rivalry with a losing record might seem a little desperate?
