  1. The play calling on offense was horrible after the first 3 scores. This one is on the coaches.
  2. He was running for his life last year and had receivers who weren’t making as many plays. And a defense that wasn’t as good. I thought his play last year, all things considered (including him being a freshman), was great. I knew this year would be even better if he got the help around him, which he has. Everyone has played at a higher level. Maybe most people don’t know this, but the NFL scouts were making Russell Wilson comparisons before last season started. Saying he had a long way to go, obviously, but that he was better than Russell was at this same point in his career.
  3. That hit was clearly targeting. Launched into a defenseless players head and neck area, leading with his helmet, hitting with the crown of his helmet. All the indicators.
  4. The article seemed unnecessarily negative against Mason Fine. The opposing coach thought he was a big reason for the UNT win. Other articles indicated he played well. His stats, well, a lot of other QB's/teams would love to have. I just don't see the reason to be so negative about the QB.
  5. FIFY UNT D looking tired at this point. Not sure about pure speed, I think they are just getting worn down.
  6. Another terrible call That's on the receiver. You stretch your route to make sure you are beyond the sticks.
  7. So, they just said it was a smart play by the LaTech QB because he threw it away but didn't throw it beyond the LOS because they had ineligible men down field. But there wasn't a receiver in the area, so even though he was outside the pocket, that should have been intentional grounding. Missed call, completely .
  8. No, not anyone. Judging by the responses on this thread and other comments elsewhere, I'd say the majority fall more in line with my view. Fine played pretty dang good. Could be better, sure, but better than "pedestrian" or "respectable". Especially considering the issues on the O-line and the dropsies by the WR (both of which seem to be improving!!!)
  9. If he went 29/30 for 400 yards and 6 TD's, he would say he needed to improve. He will never be satisfied. In fact, he said that himself in the DRC article. I still contend it was better than respectable. He played a good game. Not great. Not John Elway. But not, simply, respectable. It was better than that. I didn't figure you'd actually have a response for how many times he's taken unnecessary sacks.
  10. You don't need to pass for 300 yards when Wilson is running for 188. Exactly how many times has he taken a sack, when outside the tackle box when he could have throw it away but instead just took a sack. Tell us, please. Exactly how many. I didn't hear Harrell saying any of that to him last night when I was standing down there. Weird.
  11. Almost every game there are 2-3 balls that "should have been intercepted". He has had one INT in 166 attempts. Half way through the season he has 1 INT and they've been slinging it all over the field. If he could somehow continue this pace, and end up with 2 INT for the season, I suppose you'd still gripe. He "played a respectable game"? Respectable? He completed 64% of his passes, with 1 TD passing and 1 TD running, zero INT's. He was still pressured a LOT. He led this team to a 17 point victory when they were double digits dogs according to Vegas. You can't just "throw the ball away" when the pocket collapses on you. That's intentional grounding.
  12. You guys knocking Fine are nuts. Yes, nuts. He completed 61% of his passes and probably had 6-7 drops. Had those been caught, and they should have been, he would have completed 74% of his passes. Yet he missed "too many open receivers"??? How many should he have hit that he missed? Another 7 or so? I guess that means you guys fully expect him to complete 90% of his passes. Just trying to see where the bar is, maybe he can clear it. On the last scoring drive there were 2 drops including the 2 point conversion (that hit the guy in the facemask). That was a perfectly thrown ball, down and to the outside where only the receiver could catch it. He didn't. He went down to catch it and it bounced off of his facemask. I suppose that was Mason's fault too. He's playing with receivers who aren't playing up to the level we know that they can and with an offensive line that is struggling. He has about 5 milliseconds to throw and even when it's a strike, its being dropped far too often. Despite that, he's thrown 1 INT in 138 attempts. Some of you guys need to rethink your positions and get behind this guy and this team a little more!
  13. I've been hyping Mason Fine from the get go, but I sure don't want to see him unless he is ready and will excel. I don't want him to be ruined by playing too soon. That being said, I trust HCSL, and if he thinks he's ready, then I'm for it!!
  14. Or maybe he will get homesick, quit school and move back home after 2 weeks. Ha! You can never say for sure about 18-20y/o kids!! I would be shocked, however, if he doesn't do well.
  15. My prediction isn't based on anything to do with Mason's athleticism, arm, or accolades from high school. I spent enough time with this kid to see his intelligence, leadership, understanding of the game and his passion for football to know that he will transition well to the next level.
  16. Bold prediction: Mason Fine will be the starter before the end of the season, by choice, not by circumstance (injury, etc).
  17. He is exactly that kind of kid. I am cautiously optimistic for him to compete for the starting spot too. He is the most positive 18 y/o I've been around. It will be a big step up though, no question. His work ethic is unbelievable. When other kids went out after games to hang out, party, whatever, he would stay at the field house and lift til 1am. He studies and understands the game well beyond his years, watches film incessantly, etc.
  18. Agree totally. I'm originally an OU fan and I know Mason turned down an PWO there, but I contend he made right decision. I think he will be a star at UNT. I'm ready to make a road trip to watch him play!
  19. http://m.tulsaworld.com/test/okpreps/john-e-hoover-sooners-interested-in-locust-grove-qb-mason/article_b9893dae-58e1-50aa-9bf4-1294ff89ed4a.html Mason is a great kid, great leader and the best high school QB I've ever seen. He can do it all. I realize his highlight film sucks, showing only long passes. He has vision and touch and unbelievable accuracy. You really need to see him in a full game to appreciate how good he is. He doesn't make bad plays. He is 5' 10 3/4". That's a fact. No, I stood next to him or I know a guy who saw him and he looked short to me crap. He may or grow anymore but he doesn't need to. I think he will be a star for UNT. I can't wait to come watch him in green.
