  1. Yes, Dallas is our market and it will always be a pro town but It's all about tv. Why do you think the Big 10 invited Rutgers? As for the cheating, that's fine. The "cheating" involved one player and he is no longer here. The current success we've had and are having had nothing to do with cheating. The program currently sits better than it ever has. This year's recruiting class will be the best under Larry. BTW, SMU basketball made it to the final four and there was no cheating. And SMU football won the national championship and there was no cheating involved.
  2. There's no doubt it will be an uphill battle. We have arrived in basketball and the program is only getting stronger. If Morris can turnaround football, again no easy task, we will have a strong resume. We have the market, the history of competing at the highest level (78 years in the SWC) and we finally have the full commitment of the administration. Another poster mentioned something about buying our way into a P5. There are plenty of private schools with more money than SMU - Rice, Tulane and all the Ivy League schools. That has very little to do with it. It's mostly about performance and what your market can deliver.
  3. In all my years around SMU, this board is the only place I've heard this. When has SMU ever been in a position to keep a school out of a conference? If the president of the WAC, C-USA or AAC felt UNT was a good school to add, I'm sure it would have happened. Plus, SMU would have only one vote like all the other schools. We certainly can't strong arm a conference like UT or OU. It's flattering to think we have that much power, but we don't. I was told there is no buyout. I believe either school can opt out if they want.
  4. It really has nothing to do with ego. SMU is just like UH, Cincinnati, Memphis and UConn in that our goal is to get into a P5 conference. The next three to five years are vital. Every OOC game is extremely important and any G5 school that wants to move up should schedule accordingly. It's not that SMU is above playing UNT. It just does nothing for us, and it really does nothing for UNT to play SMU.
  5. I'll give Cincinnati credit for getting in the media and pushing this but I don't think the Big 12 adds anyone right now, especially since the NCAA ok'd the championship game under their current structure. As for the SMU/UNT series, I'm still hearing that will not play out. Orsini, our former AD, was behind the series and I'm told both Rick Hart, current AD, and Chad Morris are working to cancel the agreement and they will try to replace UNT will a P5 school. Obviously, this year's game will happen but anything after that is unlikely.
  6. KF became an above average defender and rebounder over the past year. Larry preaches that daily. In this year's game against Michigan, he completely shutdown LeVert, a guy that many think will be a first round NBA pick in this year's draft. Offensively, he's a streaky shooter, and he can take it to the hole with a strong finish when he wants. He has questionable handles and passing. A pretty common occurance this year was two good plays followed by a head-scratching mistake.
  7. Definitely hurts but the way we're looking at it is this isn't a one or two year flash in the pan. We should be at a top 25 level moving forward. Larry has two more years on his contract and wants extension. If we can land Froling, we could be better next year. BTW, just saw it is official with KF to UNT. I hope it works out. If he gets everything straightened out, he will definitely help you. I would like to see him succeed.
  8. Yeah, I realize there's a disconnect with Benford right now. It's similar to the way it was for us with Doherty. BTW, if any of you decide to come to Moody and have any questions, let me know. I'll help you out the best I can. I'm still riding high from last night. We got a nice recap from one of the S.I. writers. http://patternofbasketball.blogspot.com/2016/01/smu-vs-uh.html
  9. I made it to the W Kentucky game last weekend, and had a great time. First, I've got to say that I love Denton. It's a cool town. The Super Pit kinda reminds me of DMC before the renovation with the bowl seating. The NT fans I talked with were very friendly and passionate about the school. As for your team, you have talent. Reese and Combs can play. It was just tough to figure out what kind of offense Benford wanted them to run. I never could figure that out. It was an entertaining game. Anyway, I just want to give you a little feedback on my experience. I'll be back.
  10. LOL! Okay. I thought that was a really nice gesture. The great thing about basketball is things can turn around quickly under the right coach. If a change is made there, I hope you land a good one. There is always one out there, just gotta find him.
  11. I appreciate the thought. My girlfriend already got us tickets. I watched one of your games on ESPN3 a couple of weeks ago. You have talent on your roster but I know things haven't been great under Benford. It's so hit or miss when hiring assistants as a HC. We interviewed Benford after Doherty left. BTW, congrats on the Littrell hire. I think that was an excellent choice. I heard an interview with him and came away impressed.
  12. I stopped by your board again as I plan to go to the UNT vs. Western Kentucky game 1/16 and I saw your Frazier thread. The Keith situation has many layers. Keith is absolutely adored by the SMU fan base. If you've ever been to a game at Moody you could quickly see that. But Larry had to coddle Keith his entire time at SMU. He is a very passionate guy, and he is constantly being pulled in different directions by people in his circle. So, the combination of the NCAA investigation, injuries, losing his starting job to a freshman and the outside pressures became too much. He finally blew up and left Larry no choice. It's too bad because he was still an important guy coming of the bench for the 15th ranked team in the country. All that said, GMG24 is right, pass on that thought. Plus, it's very likely he won't play in college again anywhere. Larry is trying to help him find a pro team in Europe which tells you how much Coach cares about the young man. I'm looking forward to my first game at UNT next Saturday. Hopefully it will be a good game. In the meantime, I'm nervous as hell about tomorrow night - SMU vs. Cincinnati at Moody. It's going to be a tough one.
  13. Man, you're one hateful guy. I'm glad I don't think your way about a group of people, most of whom I don't even know. As for not stepping foot on our campus again, you won't have to for future football games because word is the current regime will exercise the buyout option.
  14. Fair enough. Even though I'm not from Texas I've been here for fifteen years, but I still don't understand how so many people here stereotype groups of people (schools, towns, race, income) and just give them no chance. It's hard for me to wrap my arms around that mindset.
  15. I'm not trying to argue with you, but I have a question based on the your posts regarding SMU I've read on here this last week, did you go to the game wanting to find these stereotypes and then focus only on them? It sure sounds like it to me. You admitted you didn't talk to any SMU fans. If you go to any college game wearing the visiting team's gear someone is going to mouth off to you, especially students drinking. It's just my guess but I think you could've been invited to an SMU tent and treated great for a couple of hours before the game and as you were leaving a drink student walked past you said something inappropriate that you would focus only on that.
  16. I hope SMU takes action against him. That type of behavior should not ever be tolerated, especially from a law student. Shameful.
  17. I'm glad some of you had a good experience. I enjoyed meeting and chatting with several UNT fans....good people.
  18. We all know every fan base has a few idiots. We ran into a small group of UNT students who talked trash to my group after we simply asked them if they wanted to join us for a beer. They rudely declined and continued talking trash while walking away. It didn't bother us because all other UNT fans we came across were great, and I'm sure they had a good time.
  19. You guys had an impressive turnout. I hope you keep it going. Good luck with the rest of the season.
  20. I had the pleasure to talk with a lot UNT fans today, good fans and good people. You guys just need at QB. I look forward to next year's game.
  21. Thst's some fuzzy math. Plus, you didn't mention the fact that SMU has twice the percentage of international students as UNT.
  22. SMU still needs to work on its diversity but it is more diverse than it gets credit for. Percentage wise SMU has twice the international population as UNT. Even though most wouldn't think so, SMU is more diverse than TCU and very similar as Baylor. Both SMU and Baylor are 64% white.
  23. hate to burst your bubble but SMU and UNT are not that different racially.... UNT African American - 14%Asian - 5%Hispanic - 19%International - 4%Native American - 1%White - 54%Unknown - 1%https://colleges.niche.com/university-of-north-texas/diversity/ SMUAfrican American - 6%Asian - 6%Hispanic - 11%International - 8%Native American - 0%White - 64%Unknown - 1%https://colleges.niche.com/southern-methodist-university/diversity/
  24. SMU beat TCU in 2011 and kept them from going to a BCS bowl. And what does money have to do with anything??
