For now we are. A big season would help out here, obviously.Sort of forgot about this kid....his commit still holding?
And for one...I think MoGreen is on to something with that nickname suggestion!
He's another situation of a guy who big schools (like ok st) are slow playing and would probably offer near signing day if they didn't get their top targets.

What recent performance? The scrimmage and mock game?Brock is still the QB of the future. Look at his recent performance.
I hope those reports are true, but it's beyond ridiculous if they are as to why BB isn't more in the mix.

Yeah, Dodge's problem was quantity, not quality. He left Mac with 10 high school kids from the 2010 class and 7 from the 2009 class. That's 17 high school kids from two classes. Most high school classes have 20 or more high school kids from every class.

Then those reports just can't be true. Those stats that said BB was 7-8 in the second scrimmage and DT was something like 7-15. If BB is still 4th after performing like that then they're just set on not playing the dude.I doubt we see Brock Saturday. I was told last week he was #4.

Also, I wonder what gives with Berglund? According to withers and our other potential insider he has not just improved, but has actually lit up our defense in the second scrimmage and mock game.
If that info by those two guys was anywhere near true then BB could be the other qb Mccarney might play in the Idaho game. Vito doesn't seem to be getting that vibe from Mccarney or something.

Crazy stuff. Well Connor, show them that you're ready to play. Kid is as strong a player as we've got in the weightroom and has the potential to be a powerful run-blocking right tackle and his pass pro has improved as well.

I hope that's the case. I think our offense could really benefit from having other qbs under center, especially if DT is just going to hand the ball of.Because Coach Mac has insisted he is going to play other QBs. He still says that Dajon is going to play. Coach Mac seems to be firmly of the school of redshirting and developing players, so I don't think he would deviate from that to give Williams one or two series all season. His comments about the 2-deep today suggested that all 4 scholarship QBs were going to play. He had no intention of playing other QBs last year.
Last year, DT was firmly entrenched as the starter the previous spring. This year, Coach Mac just announced DT as the starter the Monday before the season opener. I think Coach Mac really wants to see what the different QBs he has this year can do in game situations, and probably has particular situations he wants to see particular QBs in.
We have seen Coach Mac play multiple QBs in a game before. Year before last, he played 3 QBs against Bama, and none of them was injured. In other games (e.g., Houston), he would stick in McNulty when he wanted a more athletic QB behind center. Considering his current options, I wouldn't be surprised to see him do much more of that this year.
As for Williams, I would be surprised if he doesn't redshirt, despite what coach Mac has said. Also, if what our potential insiders have said is true about the second scrimmage and the mock game, Williams isn't ready yet and Berglund would give us the true dual threat at qb as far as putting in a qb to primarily run the ball and run the read option.

Just out of curiosity, why do people think he won't play the whole game?This. And he won't play the whole game.
He played almost the whole game in every game last year, except for the last drive in the TSU and LSU games. Or do you guys think Mac will give another qb some drives to run the offense?

I know this is a weak defense with little evidence, but Mac seems like he starts the returning guy no matter what. Maybe he mixes in other people, but as far as who starts the game it is pretty easy to predictThis and with all of the talk of how there is so much more competition and depth, basically no new starters except where they had a hole to fill due to injury or graduation. Seems weird, that no one new can come in and earn a starting role.

Just to put the Texas Southern performance in perspective:If he starts out like Texas Southern, Troy, or WKU last year bring in the backup(s). There should not be any tolerance for that type of play and the other 105 players on the team should not be subjected to it. Again, I think we all certainly HOPE that he plays like he did against Kansas State; and if he can do that we will be VERY successful.
- Texas Southern was 2-9 last year in FCS. We were the only FBS team they played, so 2-8 against FCS opponents.
- In 7 of Texas Southern's other 10 games the opposing team threw for a higher percentage than DT did against them (11-24 for 46%)
- In 9 of Texas Southern's other 10 games the opposing team threw for more yards than DT did against them. In other words, the game against us was the second least passing yards they allowed in a game all season.
Basically, DT had almost the worst performance that an FCS opponent faced all year, playing a schedule of otherwise only FCS teams.
This Idaho game is this year's equivalent to the Texas Southern game IMO. It's a weak non-conference team that we are bringing in to win and win handily. This game is supposed to be a confidence builder for our team, especially DT.

If he can't pick apart this secondary then we could be in for a long season. He should be replaced if he has a bad game here. That is, if we want any chance at a bowl game or at least 6 wins this yearShould...but we all have a reason to be skeptical based on the history. We all certainly HOPE that DT shows marked improvement over 2011 and 2012 against Idaho.

DT averaged 220 yards a game last year and we're playing a team with a bad secondary who will load the box and force him to throw.Sounds like the over/under is set a little high.
Everyone picking the under makes me feel like we have very low expectations from our qb. This is a game where DT should have a field day.

I know most of us are more concerned about how much we run on first down, how much we open up the offense, and how well we do in the redzone, but here's a more basic prediction.
We're going against a weak secondary with one starter returning and another with some experience and they've got a receiver mixing in with the secondary. Not to mention they'll stack the box and dare us to throw.
So what do you guys think?
Over/under for Thompson: 230 passing yards, 2.5 passing touchdowns

It's not with anything else, just the names of our own players. I'd be kind of irked if I was in my fifth year on a team and half my own fan base spells my name wrong still. It's honestly more out of respect for DT.What's your beef with phonetic spellings???

I think we see the same stuff as last year, but we'll try to throw more. We have the personnel at receiver to spread a team out, especially Idaho.Let's say we come out for our first offensive series against Idaho and they put eight in the box with their safeties within two yards of the LOS...now what?
What do you (honestly) think we'll do?
What do you hope we'll do? Do we have the personnel to do it?
I still think we'll run a lot on first down. DT will have time to through and receivers who can get open. He has to convert now.

Can we all agree to start spelling his name right? I mean, he's in his fifth year on the team. And I know some on here will call me out for being nitpicky or whatever, but seriously. 27-20 good guys.
I wish I could say we win by more, but I'm not sure how well we'll be able to maintain drives and, more importantly, get in the endzone once we reach the redzone.
We were only able to score 4 touchdowns at home against Texas Southern last year. If our offense hasn't improved then I think we score 3 tds this game. Hopefully we'll see some notable improvement.

Some rumblings on twitter, players talking about praying for Freddie Warner. Hope whatever happened isn't too bad, but it doesn't sound good. Praying and hoping for the best for a guy who's been through a lot.
