Ding ding dingAll you are hearing right now from RV and Mac is complete coach speak, which is what they should be doing, by the way.
-
Anyone on here is invested as a fan. Varying degrees of investment for sure, but we're all invested.I would like to think that fans would buy season tickets to watch and support North Texas football, not Derick Thompson football, or Dan McCarney football, or a helmet-I-like football. North Texas football will last for another 100 years. Be a part of North Texas football.
GO MEAN GREEN
I'm only speaking for myself for sure, but I feel others agree, I will go to all home games and cheer for whoever is at qb. I want to see the best product on the field possible and if that means someone else other than our redshirt senior at qb then that's what I want.

I think our play callers don't trust DT. He might start the Idaho game but if the coaches think we have someone who can put more points on the board then I don't think they'll hesitate.
-
I think this is the likely scenario also, but I just still think the coaches don't have any faith in DT. If they feel more confident in another qb then I think we see him.Unless he gets injured , DT will be our starter games 1 - 4 no matter what. If we are sitting at 0-4/ 1-3 before CUSA , then Mac will make a change.
Don't forget, Mac said in the spring that he wouldn't be opposed to a qb rotation especially at the beginning of the year. Not a wildcat system, but a system where each qb gets a couple series to run the offense and see how they move the ball.

Happy birthday brett! Thanks for all the hard work!

Whatever happened to Tyler Washington? We signed him the year after Akpunku and I'm assuming he's Xavier's brother. Our last DE from Cedar Hill turned out to be pretty darn good
-
Exactly. Coach Mac himself talked about forcing more fumbles this year and those are the type of hitters who can do it.And if/when he decides to use his legs to beat that pass rush, I don't think he's going to enjoy being on the business end of Zach Orr &/or Derek Akunne.
-
Heat or no heat, he's starting his first game as a D1 qb on the road 2000 miles from home. We have an experienced secondary, so let's get a pass rush on this kid and force some interceptions.
-
We have the numbers, but we don't know if we have the quality after this year. Polk, Q Brown, and Darryl Mason are undersized pass rush specialists and the other ends haven't played. If we could move Lincoln outside he could be a 3-down end, but three of the guys I mentioned are juniors and Polk is a sophomore.Upon further review, do we really need another DE? We have 11, of which 9 are underclassmen and with the possiblity that Moore could also be moved there. Plus we already have Graham committed.
Now, DT is a real need but anymore DE should be recruited as DTs IMO.
Redshirt freshman Jarrian Roberts, Brad Horton, and Malik Dilonga will be interesting to keep up with this year. If the coaches think they can recruit over those guys then they probably will.
-
I think we're going to out-gain them significantly. I'm not so sure if we're going to outscore them significantly. We need to get the ball in the endzone plenty this game.

Good article Harry, and thanks for the shoutout! It's always fun to see who emerges out of the guys we aren't exactly expecting.
Also, another side note on Reinhardt, according to his bio on meangreensports, he does have some d-line experience his sophomore year. While that was awhile ago it's not like the d-line would be completely foreign to him. Can't wait to see who emerges!

It's 3 pounds. He was 219 last year, 222 this year.Bulking up hurt Jamario in my opinion, and did t seem to help Dunbar either.

I agree that is too big for a center, but he didn't look anywhere close to 365. Maybe 330, but looking at him I was thinking he was between 315 and 325.Hope you are right about his weight. Conditioning was an issue at the time of signing, as I recall.
Show me another 365lbs college or pro center. I don't think there is even one. That is simply too heavy to play that, or any other position. Lets hope he is closer to 315.

No I don't. I just think he has a little more speed than people give him credit and he got to the third level more than Byrd. You think Jimmerson has a higher top-end speed than Byrd? I don't know.
I think Byrd has more top end speed than Jimmerson, but that's the only advantage I give him over Jimmerson.
Byrd had the two most perfectly blocked up plays of the season in his long run against WKU and his long run against South Alabama. While they were blocked perfectly, I'm not sure if Jimmerson would've been caught or not.

I think Jimmerson's speed is a little underrated. He definitely got to the third level the most out of all our backs which is the important part, but everytime he got caught they had an angle on him. Yeah, he isn't going to be a burner or homerun back, but as shifty, explosive, and yes, fast as he is at 5'8" 222 is nothing short of a phenomenal.Jimmerson was never really a fast guy anyway. Remember, most of his memorable plays came when he juked guys who caught up to him from behind.
Shifty/Quick? Yes.
Fast? No.
I bet he retains the same attributes that made him so great, even at 225.

For those concerned about Shawn McKinney's size, first of all I do not think all of these listings are 100% accurate and I don't think he weighs 365.
Second, I was playing touch football with him this summer at my old high school and he was really showing some darn impressive speed. One play I was sure I had overthrown Shawn and he turned on the afterburners and made a snag. Dude's athleticism really had me impressed. Not saying he's going to start, but I'm not scared that he's too out of shape to play.

He was playing last year at 219, he's 3 more pounds this year. At his size the kid is an athletic freak of nature.Yes, Jimmerson at around 5'8" 225 does sound a bit big for the running style we have seen from him in the past. Sure hope he has retained his speed and quickness.

Exactly. If it happens that way I'd be fine with it as well. But yes, my point was more based off of what our performance was like last year against Texas Southern and how we went about scoring our 34 points that game.I will gladly take 34 points (or even 24)...IF:
- We hold them to 10 or less
- The lack of scoring is because we are out of sync trying new things (throwing on first down, zone read plays, play action to TE's, etc)
- We rotate a lot of llayers through once we are up 17 or so. Getting experience for backup receivers, D-linemen, secondary players would be a boon for us going forward.
- There is never a feeling that the game isn't in hand. I know some may say we should be happy to get a win, but if we can't control Idaho from start to finish you can kiss bowl dreams goodbye.
The way that game went foreshadowed how inneffective our offense would be the rest of the year. Despite our defense forcing 4 turnovers and giving us good field position we were only able to score 34 points against an FCS team. Not to mention we dominated on the ground, getting 6.2 yards/carry for a total of 352 yards.
All those factors have to result in more than 34 points.
Same with the Idaho game. We should be able to force turnovers against a freshman qb on the road, not to mention a team in it's first game with their new coach and new offense. Even if we're working out some kinks we should control this game and show it on the scoreboard.
-
Yeah, JT Williams from Ryan is a little more realistic. I'm just talking about DJ Williams who seems like a longshot. I'm seeing if there's any merit as to whether or not we have gained any ground with DJ or if he's as good as gone.he has been brought up but people are also bringing up another Williams, the DT from Denton.
-
Yeah, he's a good who we should and need to pull out all the stops to get. Unfortunately OU isn't our only team that we need to make up ground against here. Miami and Missouri have themselves in good position here as well.I have mentioned him as part of my "wish list." Not sure how much of a chance we have, but I would feel better if we would sic Marcus Trice on him. I would also mentioned the fact that OU signed 4 DT's last year.
-
I'm starting to sound like a broken record, but we have to score more than 34 points at home against this Idaho defense.1st anyone know if the game will be televised? All I'm seeing is TBA.
2nd what do you think the score will be? I'm thinking 34 to 6 UNT.
If we only get 34 points this game we need personnel changes to the offense or you can expect us to average somewhere around 20.9 points a game again this year. That'd make it pretty tough to get to a bowl game like we're all hoping this year.

Does anyone know anything about DJ Williams' recruitment? Everyone seems to be mentioning him a lot lately as the top prospect who we have a shot at. Is this just optimism because we have offered and are doing well in recruiting or has anyone read anything about his recruitment that is positive for us?
Not trying to put us down right now, I'm just curious. Here's his 247 page.
http://247sports.com/Recruitment/DJ-Williams-29836/RecruitInterests
He has 4 crystal ball predictions and they're all for OU. Basically 4 insiders on the website have predicted that if he were to sign right now it'd be for OU. It also has his interest in us listed as cool while he has 8 other schools listed as warm, which includes 3 schools (Baylor, UT, and Tech) who haven't offered him yet.

Or we could call the students the village people! Because, you know, we play in Mean Green Village. Intimidation factor would be at an all time high on nickname alone!
