  1. It also doesn't count 3 walkons put on scholarship who count towards our class. Kenny Buyers, Kaydon Kirby, and Blake Macek. Because those three players played just one year at UNT as a walkon before being put on scholarship, they count in this year's signing class. You can only sign 25 players per class, and those walkons count towards that 25 cap. They were walkons, but we're talking about an honorable mention all conference cornerback, starting center/member of the CUSA all freshman team, and our punter/member of the CUSA all freshman team. 3 proven players with 2, 3, and 3 years of eligibility left. May have been walkons, but they're at least 3-stars in my book.
  2. As a passer he needs a lot of work on his footwork. He fades away from his throw too often, and sometime steps laterally when throwing towards the sidelines rather than towards the receiver. When he steps into his throws he has a rocket (what you would expect from a guy that big). Arm strength is definitely there. He does not have an ideal release (sort of long) but his footwork is what will be focused on. He can also change the arms slots from which he throws out of. Throwing from the side a little bit is not nearly as big an issue for a 6'5" guy as it would be for 6' even guys. As a receiver he can make a play on the ball and is a long strider. May not look like the fastest guy, but he's covering large chunks of ground fast on those strides. He's a very natural pass catcher. Not sure how he will be in the trenches either blocking or playing defensive end like some on this board have envisioned him doing at some point. Definitely the type of athlete D1 coaches and strength coaches love to be able to mold. There's a reason he had so much interest from big colleges and was rated so highly.
  3. ESPN only recently started using the star system, in addition to their numerical rating system, back in 2010 but in those 4 years prior to this one our record was 5 "3-star" players signed in 2012. This year, once Chumley (rated a high 3-star at 77) is counted we will have 7 "3-star" commits on ESPN. Not to mention ESPN has not rated Tee Goree or Willy Ivery. If ESPN did get around to rating them (they just recently rated Andrew Jones a 3-star at 72) then we could have 9 "3-stars" on ESPN. I wouldn't count on it, but either way we know how good those two guys are. So do other recruiting services, as Goree is 3-star on 247, Rivals, and Scout and Ivery is a 3-star on Rivals, Scout, and a 79 on 247 (1 point shy of a 3-star). Ivery was actually once rated an 87 on 247, but once the SEC interest didn't become offers he was dropped to a 79. Despite this being a relatively small high school class, it is reaching new heights and it is showing in the recruiting-site rankings. Whether they matter to you or not. 9 out of 17 high school commits being 3-stars is a pretty nice change of pace from what we are used to seeing out of our recruit ratings.
  4. Our 9th commit rated a 3-star by at least one of the four major recruiting services. Chumley is a 3-star on ESPN, Rivals, and 247. Chumley is our highest rated recruit on ESPN and 247 and is our highest rated commit on 247 composite, which is an average rating factoring in a players rating from all four of the major recruiting services (ESPN, Scout, Rivals, and 247). In other words, easily one of our class headliners.
  5. When your parents have the money, sometimes scholarship offers are no better than walk-on offers. Like Luke Del Rio (Denver Broncos defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio's son), who was actually the qb at Valor Christian after Berglund left, turned down a scholarship offer to play qb at Oklahoma State in favor of a walkon opportunity at Alabama. After his first year this year he is already transferring. Unfortunate these kids who've had everything handed to them don't know what to do when things aren't.
  6. Yup. And a little advice; if you really want to rile us up, the use the term "rustle your jimmies." We'll understand better and it'll get to us more effectively. For example: "It's so easy to rustle you kids' jimmies these days."
  7. Andrew Jones earned his 3rd star on ESPN. http://espn.go.com/college-sports/football/recruiting/player/_/id/187988/andrew-jones We know have 8 of our 16 high school recruits as 3-stars on at least 1 of the major recruiting websites.
  8. Now a 3-star on ESPN. ESPN has 6 of our prospects rated 3-stars and none of those 6 are named Tee Goree or Willy Ivery. 8 out of our 16 high school commits are rated 3-stars by at least one of the major recruiting services. http://espn.go.com/college-sports/football/recruiting/player/_/id/187988/andrew-jones
  9. That's a big boy. Maybe Reese can convince him to come down and walkon. Although out of state tuition would be a factor, unfortunately.
  10. Grrr! You rile me (and all of us young guys, really) up so easy!
  11. Gotchas. Meant to say he'd be eligible in 2015 as a redshirt senior. Been in basketball mode this weekend. 2 basketball seasons from now will be 2015-2016. But yes, he'll sit out 2014 and play his final season as a redshirt senior in 2015. What I meant to say, sorry. Thanks for catching it!
  12. Yes. That's exactly what people are saying . Come on Kram! Reading comprehension! 4-4-3-2-1? What is that? The new zone defense Benford will try to run next? That makes sense though! Maybe with that zone our players (kids or adults?) will not get tired so easy! So easy to rile you up!
  13. Has to sit out per transfer rules. If a player is on scholarship at an FBS school and transfers to another FBS school then he must sit out a year. Even if he isn't going to be on scholarship here. He wouldn't have to sit out a year if he graduated from Wyoming and came here to be in a grad program that they did not offer. Not the case in this instance.
  14. I really think that was a mistake. McClain commented when he committed that the coaches sold him on the opportunity to replace Trice at free safety.
  15. I wouldn't count out Freddie Warner taking the free safety spot. He was actually ahead of Zed Evans before he got hurt.
  16. If he's class of 2011 then he will only have 1 more year of eligibility after sitting out next year. 3rd year of college right now, next year (his redshirt year) will be his 4th. Then 2016, when he becomes eligible, will be his 5th year of college (redshirt senior season). Edit: Meant to say in 2015, when he becomes eligible.
  17. Verbal commits are nonbinding. Can't sign until national signing day (first Wednesday in February).
  18. 18 year olds actually can't enter the NBA. They haven't been able to since 2005. Some kids who graduate high school early/start school early are 17 when they graduate high school. Those kids might be 18 after their freshman year when they get drafted, but it's very rare. Who do you think you are telling CMJ to grow up?
  19. Also, we've officially played more CUSA opponents (6) than Southland opponents (5) and non-D1 opponents (5). Not quite as much success against CUSA teams though.
  20. Man, keep thinking about this game and the thing I keep coming back to is Jordan Williams getting fouled and making that 3-pointer with a chance for a 4-point play at the line. One of my biggest pet peeves in basketball has always been missing the free throw on and "and 1" play. Maybe it's because it's my pet peeve, but I've noticed many times in basketball games, particularly college games, that a missed free throw after an "and 1" sucks away the momentum that the play initially generated and is often a turning point. The play made it 31-19 but after we failed to make it 32-19 it was all MTSU from there on out, even if it had nothing to do with the failed 4-point play conversion in reality. Just a rough loss. SN: Jordan Williams passed Alzee Williams as the team's leading scorer. Now leads the team in both scoring and rebounding.
  21. Kermit sure handles us everytime we play, though. We haven't beaten them since 09. Anytime we play against Kermit, he makes sure we know first hand that it's not easy being green. Sorry. I'm sure that joke has been made too many times on here.
  22. We will need to recruit both next class regardless. Not getting a point guard with this last spot would be a very dangerous proposition. We'd need 3 shooting guards to rotate in when CJ goes out and would hand over the reins to a guy the year after with no experience running this team. Although that did work out for us a few years ago when we pulled in CJ. But it would take us getting a prospect like that and we'd need to start winning to get someone like that. Starting a new guy at the 5 in two years would be tough as well, but that's the spot you put yourself in when 7 of your 13 scholarship players are in one class.
  23. End wasn't supposed to be disrespectful, just meant to say don't criticize the class without having all the information you need to properly judge it. Yes, it's hard to judge CUSA class rankings on these websites because they devote very little effort towards evaluating these kids once they see they are not getting a lot of big school offers and they don't commit to one. But we have a very good class and a very tight knit one as well. Couple these guys with solid walkons we will continue to bring in, and likely a class that will probably be even more decorated each year going forward and things are looking great.
  24. Big man will be a major priority next recruiting cycle, but we need a point guard more direly. Particularly because CJ needs a backup next year. All the high school big guys are taken so if we add a big guy now we'd be looking at something like another Armani Flannigan type prospect, and no backup point guard for next year. Gaines and Coleman will be seniors next year so we will definitely need to get some centers. Not to mention our 4s; Colin Voss and Flannigan will be be seniors so we will need to look at adding at least 3 new post players, and at least 2 guys who can play center. Wesley and Combs are both undersized at the 4, so we definitely need some quality height.
