  1. I was at the scrimmage sitting with Gray Eagle and Buff64 last Saturday AM at Fouts, but I may have to be at the office this Saturday. If not--see yall all there at Fouts. Harry, do you (or any of you reading this) have any idea what non-perishables the Red Cross and such organizations are requesting that are on the top of their priority list for the refugees?
  2. Guess I've heard that theory most my adult life about the significant improvement for a team from the 1'st game to the 2'nd game, but last year Middle Tennesse won their first game then lost their 2'nd game at home. So I guess we're all glad for all the reasons they--play the game. I have no idea if this off Saturday helps NT or not, but I still tend to think it helps more than it hurts this particular Mean Green team. We need some time to try to settle some defensive questions that have developed and I (for certain) think Coach Dickey and staff can best do this against Middle Tennessee than LSU. GMG!
  3. Any kind of diversion for the refugees to get their minds off their plights most of them would I'm sure welcome. The Houston Coogs' host Oregon at Reliant which is walking distance from the Astrodome. I would hope UH officials would let as many of the refugees who would want to attend into that stadium and game free gratis. These are people who could use the 3 (or 4 hours since UH "passes the ball") of a good time because the last 3-4 days has not been a good time for any of them.
  4. What is your take on MT playing a game and NT not playing this Saturday due to the tragic conditions and loss of life left behind by Hurricane Katrina?
  5. What is the word on our league's comissioner and his front office staff like: "Where'd they go?"
  6. Louisiana Tech athletic officials, their coaches and Bulldog football players have all joined in a concerted effort to offer hope and assistance to their fellow statesmen. My place of business had a Red Cross blood unit out today and were collecting donations. Houston opened the Astrodome for our good neighbors. Governor Perry has offerred tuition free public school education for refugee's children who will be in Texas until things get better in Louisiana. As we know, we are not a perfect nation, but I think we can all see the goodness of the large marjority of our fellow citizens when things like this horrendous disaster (perhaps the worst ever in US history) happen. GOD BLESS AMERICA...
  7. Amen to that, HoustonEagle. Any of you fellow NT alums here in DFW know any NT alums who own businesses down on the Gulf Coast? We just cannot let Super NT alum Jim "Mattress Mack" McIngvale foot all of this bill, too. .............................................................................. God bless Houston and all you Houstonians for opening up the Astrodome for the New Orleans refugees. I was a very lucky kid that got be at the Dome's grand opening, saw ol' #7 Mickey Mantle hit the first home run in the Dome, but how would any of us have ever known back then what its most important role would be today totally unrelated to sports? This is all just too unbelievable and surreal as I watch CNN even now.
  8. This whole thing sounds like the movie "Escape From New York" X's 100. These people left in New Orleans are hot, mosquito-bit, hungry, scared and have no idea if they will make it to tomorrow. Ths is an American nightmare that should not be allowed to happen much longer with more help (and security) on the way. Amazing how materialism continues in the shadows of death with MP's story of the piano being stolen. Simply amazing... Thanks for your report on this, Rick.
  9. Uh, I think he already knows. You guys are making me feel like I've just won an Oscar in the "Biggest Windbag" category! Do I need to come up with an looooonnnnnnnggggggggggggg "everyone I owe this to" type of speech now? GMG!
  10. I'd like to watch this game if possible. My landlord has a satellite dish that can pick up Mars and Venus sometimes.
  11. Huh? Some question my opinions and, uh, "methods?" Jeez! Why am I thanking people for congratulating me for being long-winded anyway?!?! LOL! GMG! BEAT MIDDLE TENNESSEE!
  12. Bill, been thinking the same thing today because I don't think NO's is going to be back to normal for a year or 2. I wonder if Wright Waters could find a Florida location to be our substitute bowl for this December? Maybe one of those spots he has allegedly been trying to even line up a 2'nd bowl game for the SBC? OR..........is it even possible we find an established bowl to take the SBC champion this year? That might be difficult at this juncture. Even SBC Commissioner Wright Waters and the SBC office are going to have to relocate for quite awhile, too. Wouldn't be surprised to see the Sun Belt Conference offices take up temporary headquarters in Birmingham, Nashville or Irving, Texas.
  13. Congrats to all of you NT alums and Mean Green fans in the Bayou City for this most important and great news. It is important because this finally gives NT a foot into the door of a market we've needed radio coverage for a long time now. Now so many down on the Gulf Coast will get to hear the Mean Green Radio Network and a 3 hour NT info-mercial each week this Fall. Because of this new radio coverage, NT will ultimately see an increase in Houston area general student recruiting along with the all-important Houston area blue chip athletes, specifically of the football and basketball variety. Wonder how the Houston Chronicle sports page folks will learn about this new development as to list Mean Green football in their paper's Game Day list of radio broadcasted college football games? Maybe a few well placed telephone calls or emails might help, too? Maybe also a few well placed posts on UH's CoogFans.com, the Rice U message board, Texas Southern U message board, Houston Baptist U message board and maybe even more important--Houston ISD and suburban area HS's message boards? Hopefully, NT's Sports Information's office can send the Houston Chronicle sports page a memo on this huge news so many more Houstonians will know they can turn the dial to KAFR 88.3 FM to listen to Mean Green football and basketball. Since this radio station also covers the Woodlands HS (largest school by number of acreage in the state of Texas) and 2 other local HS football teams, the Conroe newspaper should also receive an email or phone call as well from local followers of the Mean Green? Why Conroe, Texas? Conroe is where KAFR 88.3 calls home base from other links I've read. Again, congrats to all of you in the greater Houston area. This new Houston/ Mean Green Radio Network (MGRN) connection is just as big as all the construction going on at the new Mean Green Athletic Village at our Eagle Point Campus IMO.
  14. Johnny ol' boy, you know you can always make me laugh! Even when I am the target of some of your kind of humor! That was gol' darn funny!
  15. Deep, as a youth, I worked on some of those Gulf Coast rice fields (near Alvin) and I will 2'nd that motion about water moccasins because they ARE a real threat; especially if you're surrounded by 2 or 3 of them or you cannot see where the others are. Speaking of Hurricane Carla, the Surfside bridge that spans the inter-coastal canal leading to the Surfside beach just outside of Freeport, Texas, was covered with moccasins, rabbits, coyotes, dogs, cats, etc, etc, etc, according to Coast Guard personnel. They also reported that all the animals on Surfside Bridges all seemed to be getting along just fine (which I thought was the interesting part of that report). If you or any of you others from the Houston area have ever seen that very tall span bridge, you'd know it is very high off the flat salt grass land and was all these animals only protection from the high waters of Hurricane Carla back in 1961. Houston's CBS affiliate KHOU TV Channel 11 had a young reporter named Dan Rather who made his first national "splash" (pardon pun) reporting back to the national guys headed by CBS' Walter Cronkite. 2 years later, the assassination of JFK in Dallas and the coverage provided by the young Houston TV reporter solidfied his accesension with CBS.
  16. Thanks Cerebus and thanks to you others posters out there both visible and (especially) all of you invisible lurker-types! Jeez! This was so much fun I think I'll start on the next 7,000 after I take a short break! GMG!
  17. FYI: As posted as an addendum, it was SUMG who first introduced me to GoMeanGreen.com because I made my first post on "HIS" computer when he lived in Denton! GO AFTER HIM, FELLAS'! ! !

  19. IMHO, the decision to postpone this game was a good one from LSU officials. As far as the question in the subject line of this thread? Many FB coaches would tell you that a football team improves most between the 1's and 2'nd game. In that regard, its a negative for NT, but sometimes I guess one can over-analyze all this stuff, too. If we can get some hurt players healthy and another potential academic player gets some good news, maybe this helps NORTH TEXAS. Only negative the Blue Raiders could have is if some of the Crimson Tide players put on some of the MT players the kind of thing they put on Cody Spencer a few years ago when he got hurt and they would not get off of him knowing he was hurt. Post # 6,999 GMG!
  20. What are our options if we have a $500,000 budget shortfall if we don't play LSU this Fall? To quote meanjoe: Join the Mean Green Club ($$$$$$$$$) Buy $eason Ticket$ Those are our options and we all (collectively) have some semblance of control with that part. Otherwise, just how do we make up the $500,000.00? ? ? ? GMG!
  21. Anyone get to listen to KTCK "The Ticket" today from 3pm-7pm while the Hardline was at the NT Union today? How many times did Mike "Whiner" call us NTSU? Any Mean Green guests (which would be so out of character for these KTCK radio Metroplex college haters)?
  22. Very good idea in the the last paragraph of your post, posiesivy. I know many of us will give to some of the groups that help in these relief efforts such as Savation Army, Goodwill (for clothing assistance), Texas Baptist Men (you cannot believe what this group does and has even received CNN mention---BTW, one of our GoMeanGreen.com's posters has been part of that group's relief efforts and since I haven't seen him post, he may be in Louisiana now), Catholic Charities (designated gifts, most mainline church denominations relief groups, designated Katrina assistance 1-800 numbers we'll see on TV, etc, etc, etc,. As of 7:08 AM Katrina may be taking a northeastern turn which may possibly be a Divine turn for New Orleans. Still too early to tell on that, though, according to CNN. Hang in there, Louisiana, we're all praying for ya'.
  23. Agree, Emmitt & UNTSIG, those people are in some kind of deep danger and are in need of some hard prayin' folks across this great country of ours. Forget the LSU football game--it's #101 on a priortiy list of 100 far more important things to do with human lives at the top of the list. As Deep Green/MG61/Island Eagle would I'm sure concur, those of us who grew up or have lived on the Gulf Coast know that feeling of anxiety and uncertainty from these mega-storms. I was 10 when a pretty hard hittin' Hurricane Carla came thru the Houston/Galveston/Freeport area. My dad helped close down Dow Chemical Co (Freeport) where he worked for 37 years, he then boarded up our house and immediaely left town taking our family to Mexia/Groesbeck to stay with some relatives for a few days. You folks in in New Orleans and well beyond the Big Easy, please use your good judgement, but as I watch CNN showing live shots of people file into the SuperDome (whose own safety as a refugee facility concerns me); anyway, IMO having gone thur far less dangerous hurricanes than Katrinia, please board up the houses if you still have time and get the heck out of Dodge.
