  1. I remember going to SWC football games in the 60’s & 70’s, buying a game program & each school printing a full page of radio stations across Texas that broadcast all their respective games. I recall during Fry’s 1’st (or 2’nd) year at UNT that a KMHT AM, Marshall, Texas, broadcast our games for 1 or 2 seasons. GMG!
  2. I like our MGRN broadcast team & have for a long time. Do wish Fort Worth & the West O’ Plex had better reception, though.
  3. I think it’s a very close game with UNT on top or it’s lopsided with UNT on top. We have better overall skill people than the Miners plus—Adaway is back & he’s healthy & he’s mean. (The Miners didn’t face him last year). Game Notes: UNT grad Dr. Phil McGraw had a closed meeting with the team yesterday in our world class Indoor Practice Facility. Word is he put them under hypnosis & proceeded to tell the team in green in an almost catatonic trance:😳 “When—the—Miner—fans—get—loud & rowdy—just—act— like—they’re—yelling—for—you.” (A Dad “almost” joke #333).
  4. …especially with 2 or 3 new Defensive secret weapons one who was a JUCO ALL AMERICAN transfer. ❇️🦅❇️
  5. Scattet’shootin’ & missin’ most the time. Come on folks—with SL it is what it is & no one on GMG is going to change it. Even with a new generation on GMG, we rarely change anything & never have in all the years since this forum was born with other situations & projects. Granted, after the Kansas State debacle & SL turning down that Big 12 job because Bill Snyder would not let him hire all the assistants, many of us early on saw our coach (seemedly) go into a funk & (seemedly) let our football program get away from him at the same time. It’s been costly. ••• We knew early on dealing with the media (with the oratory skills of a Tony Robbins) was not a strength of Seth’s, but as I recall few were calling him “mumbles” after the 9 & 3 seasons & when he almost left UNT for the Big 12 some on GMG were getting all emotional about that. Seems everyone on GMG sincerely has the answers for their passion—namely our football program & now with a (who the hell else?) U.S. government-induced NIL Wren Baker & Company have a new obstacle to overcome, but right now the #1 obstacle in Mean Green Country is to— 🦅❇️🦅❇️🦅❇️🦅❇️Ei🦅❇️🦅❇️🦅❇️🦅❇️🦅❇️ BEAT THE HELL OUT OF UTEP & THEIR 45,000 MINERS FANS FOR THE WHOLE COLLEGE FOOTBALL WORLD TO SEE!GMG!
  6. What a steamer of a day at Apogee Stadium. Felt sorry for the Ball State players in all that Texas heat & humidity. GMG!
  7. NCAA P5 AD’s gotta’ decide if they want to have more 6&5 or 5&6 records or to play a G5 if they want to win 7+ games a year. Tailgating & BBQ’ing on “The Hill” near Apogee Stadium
  8. North Texas Mean Green RB Ayo Adeyi It’s that time of year we can all get drunk on the green Koolade, but jumpin Jehoshaphat—might this be the finest overall collection of running backs in North Texas Mean Green history? Yes, we had Super Jamario Thomas & the great Patrick Cobbs at one time, but they were “the 2.” Still, I can’t remember anything like the quality of this upcoming group since 1973—my first year as a MG fan. _____________________________ ••• Below. are excerpts from a DR-C article by Brett Vito from last February. Key returnees: Ikaika Ragsdale (So., 6-0, 216), Isaiah Johnson (So., 6-0, 216), Oscar Adaway III (So., 6-0, 217), Ayo Adeyi (So., 5-7, 197), BK Jackson (Rfr., 5-11, 208), Preston Landis (Rfr., 5-11, 198) Key losses: DeAndre Torrey, graduated & now with the Philadelphia Eagles Newcomers: Qualon Farrar (South Oak Cliff) ••• The Mean Green didn’t miss a beat and ended up being ranked fifth nationally with an average of 233.5 rushing yards per game. ___________________ Could this present group improve on those lofty numbers in 2022?
  9. At first, I mistakenly blamed the NCAA for the destruction of yet another sacred American institution as college football is to many of us. I did that not knowing it was the (present) destructive federal government (who takes better care of non-citizens over We the Taxpayers who get to pay for all their “free” stuff); anyway, it’s been the federalis’ that had their greasy, bureaucratic fingers right in the middle of all this from the git-go. Then I thought about a slow boat to China & who all I wish were on it, especially the ones who keep biting the hands that feed them. * Then in a dream—I saw a giant Eagle that was chasing Asians (who kept looking back over their shoulders at Scrappy as they ran) & that’s when I woke up in a freakin’ cold sweat. Addendum: In that same dream the Mean Green tore up UTEP at the Sun Bowl stadium & then shocked— S-M-U. 🐎 🦅 ▶️I do think Men & Women varsity athletes deserve a nice stipend.
  10. This goal post tear down scene took place in Fouts Field’s south end zone after “Michael Hickmon’s 3 TD’s classic.” It was a beautiful thing to be out on that field celebrating. *The photo of Father & Son just breaks your heart.
  11. The model human being part is the best chapter of the Michael Hickmon Story. The 9 year old son who has to deal with the loss of his Dad is the saddest part of this senseless tragedy.
  12. Why all the drama about SL putting his 2021 Frisco Bowl starting QB as the 2022 season opening QB? Most coaches in the FBS will be doing the same with whoever their QB was that started in the last game of 2021. I still think Grant Gunnell will play some in the first 2 games & could be the starter no later than mid-season. GMG!
  13. Be careful malonish, now you done gone to speaking Eaglish’! We do like your projection, though.👌 Sunshine? 🌞 GMG!
  14. More on the great Michael Hickmon: He scored 3 Mean Green touchdowns in this one. Best game many of us ever saw at old Fouts Field. It was the loudest crowd, too, in a stadium with terrible acoustics. (Apogee changed all that). RIP, MH.
  15. So I guess you’re saying you were no fan of Cindi Lauper, too?🧑🏻‍🎤 I still say SMU has their largest contingency of fans at Apogee Stadium in recent memory (if not ever). By the way, the UNT maintenance staff will be spraying for middle class cooties 72 hours before Game Day. Yet Here’s Why SMU Fans Show: It’s still their season opening game. They going to be just too cool to not show up for that, too, or…….could it possibly be the Mean Green “Running backs by committee” will lay 300+ yards on their “D” making the game closer than it was for those 3 quarters last season? So for sure—don’t show! Yall will show all those new Mustang portal transfers$ just how serious y’all really are about your college football on the Hilltop, right)? 🐎 🦅(swoop time) 👵🏻 “Of course we’ll have the good taste not to mention we saw any of you at Apogee Stadium.” (altered script from that Mel Brooks movie) GMG
  16. How long you been on this forum, texx2818?🙂There’s really no pleasing anyone (except for tailgating which pleases many). It’s your usual Texas public university-educated crowd. 🖍🖌If SMU brings 2 or 3,000 fans there will be bitchin’ or if they bring 300 there will be bitchin’. It’s a tough crowd. Seinfeld would never do well with this audience. GMG!
  17. So senseless. Prayers for all who are grieving. RIP Michael Hickmon ________________ In 2001 Mean Green RB Michael Hickmon scored 3 touchdowns vs the Aggies of New Mexico State in a game won by UNT. The lead changed 7 different times. 🦅That win clinched a berth in the New Orleans Bowl where the Mean Green would defeat the Cincinnati Bearcats. (It was the most exciting & loud by the fans game I ever saw at Fouts Field). https://meangreensports.com/news/2002/11/16/NT_Claims_2nd_Straight_Sun_Belt_Crown_New_Orleans_Bowl_Berth 🤙🏻THANKS FOR THAT MEMORY, MICHAEL HICKMON! GMG!
  18. When a section says “none” I tend to take these charts at their word that all tickets in said sections have been sold. Click…”purchase by seat.” https://meangreensports.evenue.net/cgi-bin/ncommerce3/SEGetEventInfo?ticketCode=GS%3AATHLETICS%3AFB22%3AFB01%3A&linkID=unt-athletics&shopperContext=&pc=&caller=&appCode=&groupCode=&cgc= Apparently, Pony fans are having smooth sailing with the UNT Tickets staff. Here’s a few responses from Mustang fans. http://www.ponyfans.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=91291&sid=5888c56d8e5597210fe68d60eab9a3ba GMG!
  19. If you win in DFW the media usually loves ya’. Not hearing much about TCU with who I watch & listen to. Strange. The first year KTCK 1310 The Ticket was on the air UNT coverage was off the charts.
  20. I hear ya’ southsideguy, but I think the Kansas State vs OU all time football W/L record is just about as lopsided. I don’t think TAMU has had that much overall luck against the UT Horns, either, but Aggies still show up when they play. Sometimes all the Former Students had to gloat about was that Texas Aggies Marching Band. ••• The 1997 Mean Green/Aggies game at Texas Stadium vs the #22 ranked Texas Aggies was a blast. The teams were tied 10-10 at the half albeit we still fell short at the end. GMG!
