  1. Does anyone know what Rene Hanebutt is doing now? As head coach at TWU, she achieved a Johnny Jones type turn-around. Hanebutt immediately took a near dead program to respectability. TWU went 14-14 and 11-16 during her two years there. Then she resigned to go into private business. If she wants to return to coaching...I think she would be a good candidate. More about Hanebutt: LINK
  2. Nothing is more appropriate than using the old rural expression.....Pokey would be forgiven at lickety split speed.
  3. I wonder how Jay Bilas, steadfast defender of the rich and powerful, feels now that those pesky Mid-Majors have claimed three spots in the Elite 8. Too bad the Mid-Majors don't fair as well in the selection committee as they do on the court. Members of the "Priviledged Conferences" were selected to 27 of the 33 at-large bids for an impressive 82%. Not enough to satisfy Jay Bilas, but it ties the highest percentage ever achieved by the "Televi$ion Conferences." It is a shame that the Mid-Majors can win 38% of the Elite 8 on the court, but just 18% of the bids from the selection committee.
  4. Eric Tramiel had 19 points and 11 rebounds as Paris lost in the Consolation Finals of the NCJAA Championship.
  5. Eric Tramiel had 18 points and 5 rebounds today while Paris defeated Walters State 71-61.
  6. WKU finished with an 13-4 run. Most of it came with the 5 starters on the bench.
  7. Out of conference strength of schedule rankings during J Jones era: Year...National Rank ....Sun Belt Rank 2001: 40....................1 2002: 234..................7 2003: 32....................1 2004: 310..................11 2005: 132..................6 2006: 167..................7 2007: 286..................12 2008: 86....................5
  8. Actually North Texas had a better out of conference strength of schedule rating than Western Kentucky did.National Rank: 1. MTSU 70. South Alabama 79. La Monroe 82. La Lafayette 86. UNT 98. WKU 102. FIU 231. Troy 263. Ark St 303. Denver 309. FAU 317. UNO 333. UALR Bullshit.
  9. Eric Tramiel scored 15 points and secured 12 rebounds in Paris' 74-67 win over Vincennes IN at the NJCAA National Championship Tournament earlier today.
  10. Paris is not dead yet. It takes two losses to be eliminated from the NJCAA Tounament.
  11. Should be Sporting News not sorting news Butler vs South Alabama Drake vs Western Kentucky
  12. Channel 19, a TV station in Charlottesville Va reports Cincinnati is in.
  13. Wake Forest says they aren't interested in CBI Tourney. MUTS is willing to pay on road in CBI. A CBI home game requires a $50,000 guarantee.
  14. You are correct. After the letter-of-intent period expires, the player may be recruited by any school up until he actually enrolls in the summer or fall. Sometimes we read that a player has signed after the LOI period has ended. All that means is he signed the financial aid papers. He still may change his mind and enroll at another school. Transfers from D-1 schools do not sign letters of intent. You only sign one LOI. A JUCO player who has not previously played for a four year school may sign a letter of intent. LOI FAQ

  16. Schools formerly known as mid-majors always need to keep their cornholes covered when the NCAA starts handing out at large bids. And, the trend is getting worse not better. Number of non-BCS at-large bids: 2004.....12 2005..... 9 2006..... 8 (This is the year 11th seed, non-BCS George Mason made it to the Final Four. Expectations were for more, not less, at-large bids for non-BCS schools) 2007......6 Schools with sub-40 RPI ratings that were shafted by the NCAA committee: 2004.....#38...LSU..................18-10 2005.....All teams with RPI's of 1-40 made the NCAA tournament. 2006.....#21...Missouri State...20-8 ............#30...Hofstra.............24-6 ............#39...Creighton.........19-9 2007.....#30...Air Force...........22-8 ............#36...Missouri State....21-10 ............#38...Bradley.............20-12
  17. The curse of the Voodoo Palace is still unbroken. Even when NT wins....it is better for UNO. Please don't go to New Orleans. Song

  19. We could be Denver and have a road record of 0-13.
  20. The above does not work for me. How does being falsely accused of making a cash payment to a student-athlete make Johnny Jones even partly responsible for LSU being placed on probation? LSU player Lester Earl took money from an LSU fan. Later he decided to transfer to Kansas. He falsely accused Johnny Jones of paying him $6,600. You may very well be correct that LSU does not want him back because it would bring back memories of past problems. That is human nature, but it does not mean Jones played even a small part in causing the problems. Please read Lester Earl's apology. You may not have seen this. Accusations make headline news, but vindications aren't considered to be very newsworthy.
  21. Thanks for the good answers on Horton. He is no risk at all since he has an associate degree. I have confidence that our coaches, Academics and Support Services and Compliance Administration will make the right decision on Flemings. I hope he does well and still wants to play here.
  22. My memory (probably wrong) is that Joe Greene came to NTSU on a track scholarship as a shot putter and Cedric Hardeman was a walk-on.
  23. Why is it that when NT football recruits Alonzo Horton, a Rivals 4-star with a history of acdemic problems, it is seen as a great recruiting coup. But when the NT BB program goes after a Rivals 4-star with a history of academic problems, some of our fans think it is a mistake. My view is a great player in any sport is worth a calculated risk.
