I'm more than excited about this acquisition. I was on the TJ Taylor fanwagon when he left OU. He's here now, and will be for 3 years. This addition has given us a great problem; How will the minutes be distributed. I don't care who gets what minutes, as long as we are going in there night-in and night-out and beating SBC schools by double digits. And with our depth and talent, that's not farfetched at all. I think it really says a lot about our program and how much we've come up. I talked with Dominique Johnson yesterday, and he said we're better this year than VCU. And even though I'm biased, it's hard to disagree. GMG.

I work at a business where a lot of community workers (I.e. teachers) come into. Today, two Denton Ryan teachers came in. one of which taught Scotty Young. The other knows him "well". Both said that he is leaning more on UNT than anywhere else to transfer to. they both said that "he wants to come back home." this is the third time I've heard that Scotty "wants to come back home." The first time was a year ago from his grandfather in the athletic office. this kid could be a game changer. let's cross our fingers that these teachers were right.

Today, Tuesday, November 22, 2011, the Mean Green Extreme take on the UT-Arlington Mavericks/Blazers at Texas Hall in Arlington, Texas at 7:00 P.M. Our Mean Green are coming off a loss against the Red Raider in what was a growing experience for many of our young players, including Chris Jones who erupted with 31 points. CJ was acknowledged nationally for his performance by Fran Fraschilla. UT-Arlington is 2-0 with wins over East Texas Baptist University 99-64 and Louisiana Tech 68-61, both of which were at home in Arlington. UT-Arlington has 5 of 6 returning starters from last year when UNT beat them in a nail-biter. This will be a good test for our young bucks! LET'S HEAR EM'! On Wednesday, the Mean Green Dream Team head to the United Spirit Arena (terrible name) in Lubbock, Texas to square off against the Red Raider Rash of Texas Tech. The Red Raiders (1-0, 0-0) are coming off a win against Sun Belt's very own Troy Trojans (1-1, 0-0), 90-85. In this game, the Red Raiders posted big points from Ty Nurse who had 29 points (9-13 FG, 6-9 3FG). This will be a rematch of last year's game at the Super Pit, when UNT beat the Red Raiders 92-83 in what has become one of the most thrilling victories in Super Pit history. The rushing of the court, White's big three pointer and the almost SOLD OUT STUDENT SECTION immortalized this game in the North Texas Athletic history books. Both teams go into this game with a 1-0 record, just like last season. The Journey to the Tourney starts Friday, 7:00 P.M, at the Super Pit as the Mean Green Dream Team host the St. Gregory Cavaliers (1-1, 0-0), an NAIA member of the Sooner Athletic Conference. After the first showing on Wednesday in their exhibition against Oklahoma City Stars, a 67-54 win, the Mean Green revealed their incredible athleticism and ability as well as some areas of improvements. Offensively it's apparent we have the talent to score, but our defense needs to get better. My opinion is some of the youth on the team doesn't quite grasp the importance of defense, and how different the game speed is than that of high school. However, I believe that Coach Jones will make sure they're ready for St. Gregory's. And do NOT forget, Roger Franklin will be in the lineup!! I was at a conference with Coach Mac, RV, and the coaching staff. When I asked what to expect with our new Nike jerseys, Coach Mac replied with, "a little bit of throwback NT inspiration." Can't wait to see what Mac and the coaches have drawn up!

All this talk of new Nike jerseys seems great. We're sponsored by Wilson. That's second to worst behind being sponsored by Russell like WKU. I don't feel to confident making fun of WKU at the Sun Belt Tournament and saying, "Hey WKU, where'd you get those Russell jerseys? Thrift Store?!" And then realize we're not much better. What if we didn't have the usual Nike uniforms that look dumb like KU? Or Texas? Something classy, something Nike, something Green. That'd be great, in my opinion.

I talked to RV at a convention last week. I asked him about the new Nike sponsorship, and he confirmed. I asked him about the new uniforms, and he said they're still sending sketches and ideas back and forth to Nike about what they might look like for next year. SPOILER ALERT. and he told me to look for some "old school" elements about our uniform. I don't know what they means or what that could look, because I've only been at UNT for 2 years. but for the old alumni, maybe you could help a youngster out. as far as new emblems? RV told me he has no idea what it could be. he told me that "that's a McCarney issue." apparently he, and his wife, are single handly thinking up a new emblem possibility. also, new Nike gear for us fans will be available in August at the NEW PRO SHOP at the NEW STADIUM. ps. we're keeping the Kelly Green.

not sure if you were at the game but actually to be honest the d was actually improved a little.. not much but rebounding, and some of those "hustle" stats were improved... thats what i liked most tonight.. our guys fought and actually showed they cared for the first time in weeks.. people on floor, people extending d causing steals etc.. ps - very shocked no one has commented yet on the zone defense and press.. did yal like it?

well said spark, +1. i'm not ready to give up on our boys. this basketball team is what ignited my entire school spirit. some of ya'll have pressed the panic button already, and rightfully so. however, i'm waiting to see what we do at home next. we have the talent. i just wanna see some heart. a little fight. if we lost to WKU, but they showed like they were trying more in the second half, then I would've been okay with it. but i felt we laid down. that's what hurt the most of the whole game. i think, and hope, that a good home win will inspire us to get hot enough to get us to the tournament, where I believe our team will refuse to lose. for whatever reason, they'll take the tournament MUCH MUCH more seriously.

this conference season has definitely been a disappointment. I remember talking over with my friend about a possible 14 seed, maybe somehow getting a 13, when we were 11-2. what really hurts the most is the idea that we have the most talented team in the sun belt. we won the conference last year with basically this same exact team, minus collin mangrum, eric tramiel, alzee williams, and cameron spencer. at first, I thought it had to be our depth that's getting us into trouble, but we went into today with 8 days rest, and still came out flat. what i'd like to see from this team is more effort, more fight, more fire. even the commentator said it today, that being down as much as we were at half, we came out and had NO sense of urgency. things like johnny jones standing there on the side of the court with this look of helplessness, to our players looking like they had gave up and half and were ready to get home. i wanna see george odufuwa come down hard and physical with a rebound. i wanna see josh drive to the basket more. my friend and i were at the rec the other day, and saw one of the players. we started talking to him, and he told my friend, "man we're just ready to get to the tournament bro." maybe they're just pussyfooting around until conference tournament when they'll explode and beat everyone by double digits. however, i'm scared that this way they've been playing has become more and more routine and common, and i'm hoping they start playing how they should be.

I suppose his grades aren't the greatest, but here's the info I have on Jarion Henry. I'm really hoping he isn't just lying when said this, but.... Jordan Williams wrote on Tony Mitchell's wall and said, and I quote, "Aye bro we bout 2 be killin next year". On that wall post, Jarion Henry wrote, and I edit some words I'm not going to say, "***** ima be at UNT too *****" So let's hope this isn't just hype. We'll take the 81st player in the country to accompany our already astonishing recruiting class.

I was the friend with sparkman, and there is a couple corrections I'd like to make, but won't. you know what I'm talking about, Kevin. However, about Tony Mitchell. Not only is he huge, but imagine someone like Kedrick Hogans handling the ball like Josh White or Domo. His handles are something few have commented on, and I'm here to say I was taken by surprise! Not only that, he can hit a 3 ball from anywhere he wants. From beyond NBA range, the kid would consistently knock them down anytime I would kick it out to him. His stride is impeccable. His speed is deceiving. He was getting around smaller (6'0) guards from behind the free throw line in TWO STRIDES! a kid actually called traveling, but then revoked his statement when he realized how long Tony's stride REALLY is. Not only that, NOBODY COULD SCORE ON HIM! His defense was outstanding! He is EASILY the best basketball player I have EVER played with/seen play, outside of the NBA. This kid is remarkable, and I CANNOT WAIT to see him in a MEAN GREEN uniform next December. Also, it was really nice to see Kedrick up there encouraging his future teammate. He walked onto the court and said, "there's my teammate! my bro! it's great to see him up here!" after our 4th straight win, Tony went and sat next to Ked, and they left the gym together talking about the basketball team, class, and other things. I was quite delighted to see Ked supporting Tony like that. Once again, I CAN'T WAIT to see our team next year! GMG GMG GMG!

any ideas as to when the mid-major polls will be in? collegeinsider.com said they would update it today, but i don't see it. they still have last weeks polls up, and i'm anxious and nervous to see where we are after splitting our last two games.

SHSU is not 20 points better than us. sparkmank and i drove down there, and it was a great game. they raised their southland champions banner! that means they took great stock in this game against us. not to mention at the end of the game, a section of students chanted "over rated". that says alot about our team. you can't do much when a team hits a hot streak and seems to make everything they throw up. no defense can defend against luck, and that's exactly what SHSU had that night. and a lot of it. we played catch up the whole game, and that really affected our gameplan. one thing that we seem to do EVERY GAME is get the other team in foul trouble. with about 12 minutes left in the first half, we were already in our bonus. we missed too many free throws tonight and that affected us. we only shot about seven 3's and made 2. EVERYONE knows that isn't the usual for us. i'm not ready to put on the pampers yet and pee myself. let's see what UNT has the rest of NC, and then i'll tell you whether to invest in some depends or not.

i know on NCAA football it lists MTSU as a rival. however, it'd be nice to get a state rivalry going. it would help promote UNT football to the students. people love to hate someone, especially a team or school that's in the area. in high school, we had a hated rivalry with a team in the same city as us, and that was ALWAYS the most intense game of the year. i miss it, and i'd like to see one get going with some team, ANY TEAM in texas.

UNT tries to do something that they haven't done since the 77-78 year, and that's win it's first 7 out of 8 games. you're right, holmen stepped up and knocked down that huge shot to win it for us. it should be a great road test for us. i'd like to think this will be easy, but it won't. tough team. we need to shut down lawrence johnson-danner and kevin galloway. if we can stop them, we'll win. i don't think a new super pit is necessary yet. however, i think they could do some renovations to it. the wood at the top of that stands looks very old. it reminds me of where Jackie Moon would play. covering that up with some murals or pictures might look nice. and the way the wood on the court that says "north texas" is lighter than the rest of the court could be changed as well.
