  8. DALLAS – North Texas junior quarterback Austin Aune was named the Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week presented by Blenders Eyewear, the league announced on Monday. The junior from Argyle, Texas, made the first opening-game start of his career after throwing for 236 yards and three touchdowns on 16-of-29 passing in the Mean Green's 31-13 win in El Paso on Saturday night. Aune's stat line stretched his career totals against UTEP to 778 passing yards, nine touchdown passes and no interceptions to go with his 3-0 record. He is the first UNT student-athlete to garner Player of the Week honors since Jaelon Darden in December of 2020. With his three touchdown passes in the game, Aune moved to ninth on the program's career touchdown passes list with 26. His yardage total brought his career output to 4,013 passing yards to put him in eighth place on the program's career passing list. Aune and the Mean Green will host SMU in their home opener at Apogee Stadium on Saturday with the game set for a 6:30 p.m. kickoff.

  10. Game notes Time and Date: Saturday, August 27 at 9:00 p.m. ET Network: Stadium Location: Sun Bowl — El Paso, TX Spread: EVEN ESPN FPI: North Texas has 60.1% chance to win All-time series: North Texas leads, 19-8-3 Last meeting: North Texas 20, UTEP 17 — November 13, 2021 Current streak: North Texas, 5 (2017-21) Setting the scene The smell of tailgate food, the clicking of pads, the over-analyzing of preseason polls. Everything great about the tail-end of August is back, signifying the true return of college football. This year’s Week 0 is set to be the most expansive one yet with 11 matchups involving FBS teams all occurring in one all-day slate. Two of these August games already come with conference title implications. The C-USA scheduled two intra-league contests Saturday, including a battle between two of its Lone Star State squads. -------------------------------------- The North Texas Mean Green travel to one of the most scenic settings in college football to battle the UTEP Miners. The C-USA West rivals begin their quest for a 2022 conference title in the confines of the Sun Bowl, accompanied by the venue’s breathtaking mountain backdrop and a fiery sunset which is set to transpire 30 minutes after kickoff. North Texas and UTEP converge to form the most evenly matched game in a Week 0 slate filled with FBS vs. FCS matchups and double-digit spreads. Both teams posted similar records last year and have a wealth of returning talent to build around in 2022. While offenses usually draw the attention, this matchup’s main calling card is that it features arguably the top two defenders in C-USA in K.D. Davis and Praise Amaewhule. Defenses should reign supreme for the most part in this one, so don’t expect the Sun Bowl to host a high-octane shootout Saturday. The main matchup to keep an eye on involves Amaewhule pitted against the new right tackle North Texas breaks in, which is set to be Jett Duncan or Kaci Moreka. If UTEP can expose this matchup, the heralded rushing attack of North Texas may have a viable counter. On the other side of the ball, the potential matchup of Tyrin Smith against John Davis Jr. should draw some eyeballs. UTEP excelled with the deep ball against North Texas last year as Jacob Cowing obtained 174 yards on five receptions, so quarterback Gavin Hardison should test his Smith downfield early and often. read more: https://www.underdogdynasty.com/2022/8/25/23319375/2022-week-0-preview-north-texas-mean-green-utep-miners-c-usa-hardison-aune-amaewhule-davis-sun-bowl
  11. North Texas comes into this Week 0 matchup as a slight home underdog but we like their chances, led by a stout defense. Read more on why we're fading the Mean Green on Saturday in our North Texas vs. UTEP betting picks. North Texas vs UTEP picks and predictions Our side and total predictions are based upon our analysis of the line and total in this game. Our best bet is our favorite pick across all markets. Spread analysis It was a tale of two halves for Seth Littrell’s North Texas Mean Green last year. After an opening win against FCS school Northwestern State, they’d go on to lose six straight games. At that point, bowl eligibility seemed like a pipe dream. Not so fast! Typically operating a pass-first system, Littrell’s team changed its identity to a power run spread attack and reeled off five straight victories to end the regular season. Which are we more likely to see in 2022 — the Mean Green of the first half, or the second half? The offensive success likely continues, as they return eight starters on that side of the ball while ranking fifth in offensive returning production. A rushing attack that averaged 235.4 yards per game on the ground loses Deandre Torrey but should be fine as Oscar Adaway III returns from injury to combine with Ikaika Ragsdale and Ayo Adeyi. Four offensive linemen also return to a team that ranked eight in power success rate a year ago. The defense is more of a concern after losing the star brother duo of Gabriel and Grayson Murphy to UCLA. As for UTEP, the Miners reached bowl eligibility last year for the first time since 2014. This has typically been a moribund program, as they’ve had only two winning seasons since 2005. However, the culture is starting to change under head coach Dana Dimel, and there’s genuine positive momentum. Dimel inherited an 0-12 team in 2018 and would go 2-22 over his first two seasons. Things started to change with a 3-5 record during the COVID-shortened 2020 season, and the light finally showed through a year ago with a 7-6 record. The Miners play sound defense and make enough plays offensively to pull out wins. I’m siding with them as I think the wrong team is favored. UTEP returns 15 starters and ranks 51st in returning production for one of the program’s better teams in recent memory. The offensive line returns three experienced starters who could have all-league potential, there are two experienced running backs to utilize, and quarterback Gavin Hardison managed 9.0 yards per attempt a season ago. The defense will remain a strength, and this has the makings of a well-rounded team that won’t be easy to beat. Prediction: UTEP +1.5 (-115 at FanDuel) read more: https://www.covers.com/ncaaf/north-texas-vs-utep-odds-picks-predictions-august-27-2022
  12. DENTON, Texas – North Texas Athletics, in conjunction with INFLCR, has announced the launch of the Mean Green Exchange to expand its ongoing Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) program for student-athletes. The Mean Green Exchange is the latest innovation to help UNT student-athletes maximize NIL opportunities. This streamlined, easy-to-navigate platform is a free service to both student-athletes and third parties. It serves as a directory and customized portal to connect businesses, collectives, donors, alumni and fans with student-athletes to explore, negotiate and enter into NIL transactions. “The creation of the Mean Green Exchange and the expanded partnership with INFLCR represents another opportunity for our student-athletes to continue to grow their profile in the ever-changing NIL landscape,” Vice President and Director of Athletics Wren Baker said. “It is important to our mission of Building Champions and Preparing Leaders that we offer education and comprehensive resources to all of our student-athletes that allow them to build their individual brands and maximize NIL potential.” The Mean Green Exchange is a custom-designed student-athlete NIL business registry for businesses, collectives, donors, alumni, fans and others wishing to connect specifically with student-athletes at North Texas. After a business, collective, or individual registers on the Mean Green Exchange they can access a searchable database of UNT student-athletes, and filter that database through a variety of criteria. They can message the student-athlete directly in the application or request the student-athlete's contact information (or that of their representative) to start a discussion about an NIL transaction. INFLCR and North Texas will not be involved in any of the negotiations. Once an NIL agreement is reached, a customized reporting form, that is compliant with UNT’s Name, Image and Likeness guidelines, is generated and forwarded to the institution. The platform also includes a payment processing tool to securely pay the student-athletes and will be consolidated into a 1099 form that lives in the student-athlete's INFLCR app for more efficient tax reporting. Businesses, collectives or individuals can register now at www.MeanGreenSports.com/Exchange. UNT will opt-in all student-athletes, who may opt out if they choose not to participate. “We’re thrilled to provide expanded NIL resources to all UNT student-athletes through the INFLCR app,” said Jim Cavale, INFLCR President. “Now, student-athletes and businesses have one convenient place to connect and engage in NIL activity through the Mean Green Exchange. The new platform will make it easier for current and incoming student-athletes to build their NIL footprint.” About PARAMOUNT In 2021, UNT Athletics announced the launch of PARAMOUNT, a comprehensive Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) program designed to educate and empower student-athletes and prepare them to optimize NIL opportunities. North Texas added a group licensing program with the Brandr Group in 2022. For additional Information, visit northtex.as/Paramount.
