  2. For FIU Panthers fans who wanted to see coach Mike MacIntyre more upset after a loss, Saturday was your moment. FIU lost 52-14 at North Texas in a game that was not as closely played as that score indicates. The Panthers trailed 38-0 after just 20 minutes, and North Texas emptied their bench in the second half. “North Texas kicked our butts,” MacIntyre said. “They are a really good football team. They are a mature team. You can see why they beat Western Kentucky so bad. “We did not play well. I’m really disappointed in our coaching staff and myself and our players. It’s the most disappointed since I’ve been here.” read more: https://amp.miamiherald.com/sports/college/conference-usa/florida-international-university/article268364832.html
  3. Brashier was born in Eastland, Texas, on May 30, 1929. Following a highly-successful high school career, Brashier was a three-year starter at North Texas as a defensive back, quarterback and punter (1949-51). He collected 10 interceptions in 1951 and had 19 career thefts. Both are school records that still stand. He earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from North Texas. read more: https://cbs2iowa.com/amp/news/local/former-university-of-iowa-assistant-football-coach-bill-brashier-passes-away
  4. Good Sunday Morning Uni Watchers, and welcome to Week 10 of the Sunday Morning Uni Watch. I hope everyone is enjoying their “extra” hour of sleep today. While there was plenty of uni shenanigans yesterday (it’s S&S/GI Jokevember after all), today’s splash photo is of a team that doesn’t get much coverage ’round these parts: the University of North Texas, aka the “Mean Green.” The team looked more like the neon green yesterday, as they wore throwback uniforms and helmets, with the logo lovingly referred to as the “Flying Worm.” I wouldn’t quite call the “neon” green chartreuse, but it’s close…and chartreuse is a color that is sorely lacking in sports. When it’s done right, like these are — the simple block numbers outlined in black, the green helmet with classic striping — it’s all good. It would have looked even better with pants stripes matching those on the helmet, but other than that, I have no complaints. It didn’t hurt that UNT’s opponents, Florida International, went mono-blue, rendering the matchup both high-contrast and pleasing to the eye. A nice little mid-to-late season break from the usual “icy whites” and “blackout” uniforms so prevalent these days. read more: https://uni-watch.com/2022/11/06/sunday-morning-uni-watch-148/
  5. Important Homecoming Game Parking Information We look forward to another great day of Mean Green football this weekend as we host FIU for Homecoming 2022. With a large crowd anticipated, the blue parking lot will NOT be sold on game day. It will be available for online advance purchase only. The orange lot is also available in advance for only $10! This special rate will be active until 5:00PM on Friday. The price will return to $20 at that point and will be $20 credit card or $25 cash for game day drive up sales. Please note that there is ongoing construction at the entrance of North Texas Blvd and Apogee Dr beside the blue lot. This will not impact entry or exit for blue lot patrons as there will be normal entry procedures for pass holders and exit will utilize full contra flow. If patrons would prefer to avoid this, please utilize the Bonnie Brae entrance. The red lot (dirt lot on Bonnie Brae St.) will not be utilized on Saturday due to muddy conditions. We urge all ticket holders to purchase their parking in advance and add it to their digital wallet to ensure smoothest entry on game day. Go Mean Green! CLICK HERE TO PURCHASE PARKING
  6. DENTON, Texas – Led by 22 points from junior Tommisha Lampkin, North Texas women's basketball opened the 2022-23 campaign with a strong 87-66 win over Texas A&M International Thursday in an exhibition matchup inside the Super Pit. The Mean Green had four different players score in double figures in the win and forced 30 turnovers as they took down the Dustdevils in their final tune up before the start of the regular season. Senior Quincy Noble finished the game with 17 points while juniors Jaaucklyn Moore added 14 and Courtlyn Loudermill finished with 11 to join Lampkin in double figures. UNT opened the game on a quick 10-2 run highlighted by four points from Lampkin and another three from Moore. Trailing 23-13, A&M International was able to climb back into the contest and cut the deficit to one with a 9-0 run to close the first quarter and start the second. The Mean Green responded, however, by scoring 14 of the final 17 points of the second quarter to head into the locker room leading 37-25. Coming out of the break, UNT swelled the lead to as many as 16 after freshman Breanna Davis hit a driving layup with 6:28 left in the third to go up 47-31. The Dustdevils were able to cut the deficit to single digits late in the quarter, but Lampkin made sure to keep them at arms-length by scoring eight of UNT's final 12 points to make the score 59-47 heading into the fourth. Down the stretch, the Mean Green were able to pull away and grew the lead to as many as 26 after Moore knocked down a 3-pointer and closed the game with a 21-point victory. Quoting Head Coach Jalie Mitchell On the newcomers to the team: "I was really pleased with the way our freshmen played. I've been saying this, but they don't necessarily look like freshman on the court. I thought they handled themselves pretty well defensively and made some plays on offense. They're really tough, they want to be good and they listen. So I know they're just going to continue to get better as the season goes along." 7. Five-For-Five: Flying Worm Days It was a quintessential piece of 70s design, a child of 1960s psychedelic design with thick, curvilinear shapes; a long, thick body with equally thick wings coming off its back. It was a stylized rendition of an eagle. However, to North Texas students of the era, it looked like a flying worm. And the name stuck. But the 1970s uniforms were much more than the Flying Worm. North Texas has long changed the shade of green worn by its student-athletes, but this was easily the most bold: a bright, eye-catching, practially neon lime green. Introduced in 1973, the Flying Worm and lime-green uniforms were retired in 1982-83. But more than any uniform or logo before or since, the Flying Worm continues to enjoy popularity. 9. Two concurrent storylines in college athletics – the long-debated and finally approved expansion of the College Football Playoff and the every-decade shift in conference affiliation – are about to collide strangely: With the expansion of the game’s postseason field from four teams to 12 starting in 2026 (or earlier), programs where it was previously considered impossible to create a national title shot suddenly have a puncher’s chance of at least seeing the championship structure. North Texas: We’ve previously discussed the long marriage between the Mean Green and Seth Littrell wrapping up at the end of this season in as respectable a fashion as possible, and that still holds – unless UNT finishes its final three games against FIU, UAB, and Rice with a sweep. Losing to UTSA hurt Littrell, but this past weekend’s blowout of Western Kentucky was a huge mark in his favor. 13. WKU (5-3, 3-1 C-USA) vs. North Texas (4-4, 3-1 C-USA) Date: Saturday, Oct. 29 Kickoff: 2:30 p.m. CT Location: Bowling Green, Ky. (Houchens-Smith Stadium) Watch: Stadium Listen: WKLX (SAM 100.7 FM) and WWKU (ESPN Radio 102.7 FM) in Bowling Green Social: @WKUFootball | @WKUSports Game Notes: WKU | North Texas Game Day Information: Tickets | Gameday Guide | Live Stats NOTES & QUOTES It's homecoming week on The Hill! The Hilltoppers will celebrate homecoming against North Texas this year. Last season's homecoming game was against Charlotte and the Hilltoppers game away with a 45-13 victory over the 49ers. Both of WKU's last two games saw the Hilltoppers enter the matchup with a tied series against their opponent. WKU and Middle Tennessee were tied 35-35-1 entering the 100 Miles of Hate Rivalry. WKU and UAB were tied 4-4 all-time entering Friday night's contest. WKU won both those games to claim the all-time series lead. This week, WKU and North Texas enter Saturday's contest with the series tied at four wins apiece. Saturday will mark the last meeting between WKU and North Texas for the foreseeable future as the Mean Green prepare to make the transition to the American Athletic Conference next season. The Hilltoppers have played North Texas twice as Conference USA rivals, winning both meetings in 2015 as well as 2016. Saturday's matchup between the Hilltoppers and Mean Green will go a long way in sorting out the Conference USA standings. WKU and North Texas enter Saturday in a tie for second place in Conference USA with both teams owning a 3-1 record in league play. The winner will move into sole possession of second place and control their own destiny to play in the Conference USA Championship game. Western Kentucky's win over UAB was its fifth on the season, which puts the Hilltoppers just one win away from becoming bowl eligible this year. It would mark the fourth-consecutive season WKU was eligible for a bowl game, and the 11th time in the past 12 years. The Hilltoppers are 5-3 through eight games this season, which is one game ahead of where they were through eight games a season ago. The 2021 team was 4-4 through eight games after starting the year 1-4. That team went on to finish 9-5 with an appearance in the Conference USA Championship game and the Boca Raton Bowl, which it won over App State. "North Texas week. Good to have another home game. Got a really good North Texas team coming in. One of the top offenses in the conference, playing a very solid defense as well. Should be a tremendous challenge, but it's good we get them at home. It's a big conference game for sure. Last week, Coach Latrell does a great job preparing his guys, and I know they had a tough one last week at UTSA. [We] were in the lead for most of the game, it was a back and forth game and UTSA was able to pull it off. So I know [North Texas has] their jaw set trying to come in here and win and so will we and it should make for a great match up and I'm looking forward to it." -Tyson Helton on the matchup against North Texas "We take it one game at a time, obviously, but we fully understand that to be in control of your own destiny is a good thing and to try not to look past North Texas. Our main focus is North Texas. They are the same way and are trying to control their destiny as well. The big win against UAB, which was huge, that was a really big confidence builder. They are a really good football team, and I thought the atmosphere was fantastic. The fans showed up and did a great job, and we're going to need that again this week because this game will be probably even harder." -Helton on the implications of Saturday's game "Defense wins championships. If you want to win, have a really good defense that produces turnovers. That's why you win, and that's a big box that we checked on several weeks of the season. Again, I think they'll be put to the test again against North Texas. Offensively, did some good things, but there was twice where we got the ball across the fifty and didn't do anything with it. We came away with no points on the board. Both those times we lost yardage. So those are the things we have to correct and fix. Particularly against a team like North Texas." -Helton on getting the team to play complementary football LAST TIME OUT The Hilltoppers came away with a huge victory over UAB, thanks to four forced turnovers by the defense. Kahlef Hailassie was responsible for three of those turnovers, including an interception on UAB's last drive to secure the victory. Quarterback Austin Reed rushed for two touchdowns, and true freshman running back L.T. Sanders rushed for 120 yards. ABOUT NORTH TEXAS The Mean Green enter Saturday's contest with a 4-4 record overall and 3-1 mark in Conference USA play. Austin Aune quarterbacks North Texas and has thrown for 2,017 yards and 20 touchdowns. Roderic Burns is his top target with 541 yards and a touchdown. Ayo Adeyi and Oscar Adaway III are a two-headed monster at running back with 559 and 548 yards, respectively. Defensively, KD Davis leads the way with 84 total tackles on the year. Seth Littrell is in his seventh season as head coach at North Texas. SERIES HISTORY The all-time series between WKU and North Texas is tied at four wins apiece. WKU has won four-consecutive games in the series. FOLLOW US For all the latest on WKU Football, follow @WKUFootball on Twitter and Instagram and like the WKU Football Facebook page.

  15. I have often said that while UTSA may officially stand for “The University of Texas at San Antonio,” our institutional mission is to be The University of Texas for San Antonio. From our fields and courts to our classrooms and laboratories, UTSA is dedicated to transforming the lives of our students and lifting up the San Antonio community. But that profound bond goes both ways, and I’d be remiss if I didn’t take the opportunity to thank the San Antonio community for the outstanding support it has given to UTSA and to our football team. A renewed buzz around Roadrunners Football ignited last season as head coach Jeff Traylor and our tremendous student-athletes stacked one win upon another on a journey to the program’s first conference championship. You could feel the excitement on campus. You could see the excitement at the tailgates. And you could certainly hear the excitement inside the Alamodome, as our fans loudly let their presence be known—much to the chagrin of fantastic conference foes like UAB and Western Kentucky. That fervor for UTSA Football has only grown in 2022. We’ve seen a 38% increase in student attendance from last season to this one, and a 46% increase in season ticket sales. As a result, UTSA currently ranks No. 1 in game attendance in Conference USA. For perspective, our current average attendance would rank No. 5 out of 14 institutions who will call the American Athletic Conference home starting next year. We’re always working to find innovative ways to increase engagement between UTSA Athletics and the Alamo City because we’ve seen how powerful that connection can be. Our teams bring the community together and make life just a little bit sweeter in the 210. When the Alamodome is packed, it overflows with an energy that rivals just about any other college football environment in the nation—from Conference USA, the AAC or even the Power Five conferences. It’s no coincidence that our Roadrunners boast a 14-2 record in home games since Coach Traylor arrived in San Antonio. The team feeds off the tremendous energy from the crowd and Roadrunner pride jolting through the stadium. These forces are powering UTSA Football closer to another conference championship in 2022. We couldn’t do this without the support of San Antonio. We couldn’t do this without the support of our students. We couldn’t do this without the support of our alumni. We couldn’t do this without the support of every Roadrunner fan who instinctively shouts “SA!” every time someone within earshot says, “UT.” Thank you, sincerely, for showing up with your “Birds Up.” We need your help again this weekend as we look to #PackTheDome for Saturday’s Homecoming game against the University of North Texas. Both the Roadrunners and the Mean Green are 3-0 in conference play and the winner will stand alone in first place in the Conference USA standings. We’d love to celebrate a big victory and we’d love to have you be a part of it! 16. Chancellor Michael R. Williams made appearances at the university, UNT Dallas, UNT Health Science Center and more for his “listening tour” town halls. At the HSC town hall on Sept. 12, Williams presented his final address as the HSC president, and his successor Sylvia Trent-Adams spoke about Williams’ accomplishments. Williams was named chancellor in December 2021, and this year will be his first serving in the role. “I am excited that we will be implementing the values-based culture across the entire UNT system,” Trent-Adams said. “I think this is primarily one of the main reasons I came to HSC. The impact that Dr. Williams has had on the community, the students, the faculty and the staff is immeasurable. I want to thank you for your service, for making HSC a better place to work and we all wish you continued success in your role as UNT system chancellor.” The Denton campus event welcomed students and faculty to hear Williams and President Neal Smatresk speak on new plans for the university system, which include values such as trust, care and creating a “people first” culture. “We have done these exercises over the years even since I have been here,” Smatresk said at the UNT Denton campus town hall. “Prior to that, there were strategic plans, mission statements and values that were selected kind of like magnetic refrigerator poetry. Groups of people got together and threw a bunch of words against a wall, wrote them down and then forgot about them.” Smatresk said being a value-driven organization means saying things they believe in and following through. He emphasized “caring” as being an important word to the university at this time. “Every university in the country says they are a caring university,” Smatresk said. “I happen to believe that for us — that rings true.” After the introduction from the president, Williams took the stage to address the crowd, primarily faculty members, that nearly filled the chairs in the Union Emerald Ballroom. There were also about 200 people attending the event virtually. “The first thing that has to happen in a values-based culture is building a culture of trust,” Williams said. “I have been in the system now for 10 years. I was a board member before that, and I have heard repeatedly and felt that trust was lacking in the organization as a whole.” He explained trust takes years to build, and it takes not just himself or Smatresk to do it, but everybody in the organization. The chancellor then shared a new vision statement. “We’re focused on students and their families,” Williams said. “There’s an emphasis on excellence, and what I mean by excellence is excellence in the ordinary. It means that with those daily things we go through […] we stop and think, ‘How can I do this in the most excellent way?’” read more: https://www.ntdaily.com/chancellor-shares-plans-addresses-concerns-at-town-hall/
