  1. This is my fear that the Texas/Oklahoma schools (not UT, OU, or A&M) won't schedule us again unless it is just a road visit here or there. I think that alot of folks know what Dodge will be able to do for our program and they have no interest in being first or second on the list of his conquests at UNT. I could be wrong, but I just don't see SMU playing us again after this year. Their fans, just like TCUs a few years back, don't feel that it is their best interest to play us regularly. That is why the Navy game and others like it are very important that we attend very well and show other schools that we are someone to play regularly. If we can't get these Texas/Oklahoma schools to play us, lets get Memphis, Soutehrn Miss, UAB, Wyoming, New Mexico, or Colorado State to sign a home and home series.

I've been concerned about our lack of scheduling Texas school before Dodge was hired. But I agree that our situation could get worse, depending on how successful TD is.

  2. This is in regards to their 2007 football schedule. On 9/22 the Bears play at Buffalo University.

I'm glad that someone else brought this up. I was looking at the future schedules of Big 12 and CUSA Texas teams, plus other teams from surrounding states, and I'm amazed that we are not on any of their schedules other than this years SMU game. I sure hope our AD is hard at work trying to schudule Baylor, TCU, TxTech, SMU, Houston, UTEP, Rice, Tulsa, Houston, Tulane, Oklahoma State, La Tech, etc. We must continue to play these schools. And I don't necessarily mean the UT's and A $ M's of the world(although I'd like to go up against the Aggie$ again. Look at the Aggie$ schedule this year. Montana State and ULM. Last year they played The Citadel and a couple of other lame schools. Why not keep the money in the state of Texas and schedule UNT?

  3. From the very little that I know--granted, mostly heresay--but I have always heard that SMu was much more interested in having La Tech as a member of CUSA than UNT. But, in the end, neither made it. But, as you can imagine, La Tech wants in and if they have some built-in help...well that doesn't seem to hwlp our chances much. I still think it is amazing that this very little school, SMU, that has nothing to show for football in the last 20 years has enough pull to do this, but they managed to help keep us out of the old SWC when we could have been something special.

I'm still curious to hear what ideas we could use to get into CUSA, though. It would be a great fit.

If the AD thinks SMU is the cause for all things that don't go our way, then it's time the Administration, AD, and BOR starts "smoozing" the folks on the hill. We need make them our best friends. Do a selling job on them.

  4. Good stuff NT80. At this point and time, I think we need to get back to our winning ways ASAP. With Dodge at the helm, if he can bring in exiting, winning football to Denton, I think the interest in North Texas will elevate in a short time. If I had to list the top two on your list -

    1. Winning football (I'm not talking about beating up on SBC teams, I mean spanking the likes of SMUt, beating Navy, playing OU and Arkansas tough, then trashing any other teams we come up against. Can we do it, I simply don't know at this point and time.

    2. Stadium

Accomplish these two items with Dodge ball and the other eight will come sooner than expected by some.

  5. Why not, at the very least, have SOW in background as a 20% screen. Then have the stacked North Texas over SOW. As the years go by and the world associates North Texas and SOW, remove the verviage and leave just the Son Of Worm.

Smitty, can you give it a shot?

  6. Problem is Deep, we all can't even agree on that!! I don't want SOW on the helmets! And I don't think I want SOW anywhere on the uniforms for that matter. The only thing to me that would be recognizable and unique would be the interlocking NT.

On that, we agree. I mention the SOW because it is now a part of our official branding. I prefer the interlocking Exes NT also, but it's just not going to happen. How unfortunate. I just believe SOW is better than the name plastered across the helmet.

  7. Fine with me. Was hoping for the NT Exes "NT" but I knew we wouldn't be getting it. I just hope the "North Texas" stands out more and is more readable than the current helmets with the thin white letters that were almost unreadable from only a short distance away.

Very little difference between the current Southlake helmet and the proposed North Texas helmet.

Wonder if Southlake will change from the current Dragon decal to the name spelled out?

Todd, listen to your new fans at NT. Give us SOW on the helmets.

    Samantha Ricketts

NORMAN, Okla. — OU starter Lauren Eckermann pushed her record to 26-1 as the No. 2 Oklahoma softball team stepped out of conference play Wednesday night and beat North Texas, 9-2, in Denton, Texas. The second-ranked Sooners improved to 42-4 on the year while North Texas fell to 16-27.

The Sooner offense, which leads the nation in batting average and runs scored, combined for 10 hits behind Samantha Ricketts’ 4-for-5 outing with four RBI and Norrelle Dickson’s 2-for-3 performance. Mariee Mena also added two RBI in the contest. Including her four RBI tonight, Ricketts owns 67 on the season, only trailing the OU single season record by 10 (77 by Lisa Carey).

Eckermann, the Big 12 leader in wins, scattered five hits and allowed two runs while striking out nine Mean Green batters. The junior recorded her 21st complete game of the season.

  9. Browsing on another teams athletic website, I noticed an interesting link on their home page. I won't mention the school 'cause they may get the big head. Anyhow, they called it "ALUMNUS DATABASE REGISTRATION". I checked the Mean Green Sports site and did not see a similar link. This could be a good way for former students, general fans, etc., to register with the Athletic Department and have their name added to the database. I thought it was a pretty good idea.

  10. Should be interesting to see the fate of A&M basketball now that Gillispie has left. Was their recent success just a flash in the pan, or will the Aggies be smart enough to find a suitable replacement.

There will be wailing and gnashing of teeth in aggieland. Just to tell you how big basketball is in aggieland the past few years, my sister and brother-in-law, typical die-hard football fans for the past hundred years, actually had season tickets for basketball this past season. This is unheard of! Believe me, aggie$ like to win and they will find a suitable replacement. Maybe dig into their feeder campus in Corpus Christi and bring in Ronnie Arrow?

  11. Not that we will get a stadium built anytime soon, but can someone tell me why they oppose a new UNT stadium like Ford Stadium at SMU? Please explain what is so negative about this facility? I would have this at Eagle Point in a heartbeat. Even the same capacity.

  12. I don't think that is appropriate. We are in a time of war. I realize this is about a football game and that a football game is trivial compared to a war, but the notion and the graphic of sinking a (U.S. I presume) Navy ship seems over the line. "Kick the mule" or "Give Navy the blues" but don't sink Navy. Sorry. Just my opinion.

Boy GreenJoe, do we think alike. As I type this from my hotel room in Kauai, Hawaii, preparing to fly to Honolulu, enroute to home, we'll pass over the Battleship Arizona Monument. I don't think the T-shirt theme is appropriate. We should come up with a different theme that is more respective of our men and women in uniform.

  13. Perhaps Vito needs an assistant? Maybe the official site and athletic department could provide some coverage also (you know, to continue to promote the fan interest?)....like some other SBC schools do:

Seems like the Mean Green Insider could break out the old video camera and shoot some footage, then posting it on the Mean Green Sports site. Is that too much to ask?
