  1. Because SMU is a rival of Mean Green Football?
  2. Hey Emmitt, I know this might be hard to believe, but teams like USC and Texas tend to recruit the same caliber of players and sometimes BOTH schools offer the SAME player a scholarship. Although I cannot provide you with audio from the wire GJ Kinne was wearing in his underwear when Pete Carroll offered him a scholarship as proof, I can tell you that two years ago I read multiple sources on the Internet and talked to multiple people in Canton who told me GJ turned down USC. And I don't think Kinne is better because Mack Brown offered him a scholarship. I think he is better because I have seen Kinne, Vizza and Dodge play in person and although I like all three players and consider Dodge and Vizza easily the most talented quarterbacks UNT has had since returning to D1, Kinne (in my humble opinion, you are welcome to your own) is the most talented of the three players. As a junior Kinne threw 47 touchdowns and 1 interception and rushed for 1300 yards and 15 touchdowns. His UT career was doomed the moment he committed there, but he will be a college football star.
  3. You are wrong. Here is a partial list of the schools that offered Kinne, including USC... http://footballrecruiting.rivals.com/viewp...sp?pr_key=36593 Kinne was offered by USC, but did not go there because he was not their first choice. Which is ironic, because he went to Texas even though he was the Longhorn's second choice after they got spurned by John Brantley. Here is a selection about his recruitment by the Trojans. http://trojansfootball.blogspot.com/2006/0...update-426.html "The next prospect (not in tier 1 or 2 according to Scout.com) on the Trojans list would likely be G.J. Kinne (6’2”, 210) of Canton, TX. Kinne has offers from Alabama, Nebraska, Oklahoma and Tennessee but recently took an unofficial visit to USC"
  4. Yeah, Kinne sucks. Some of the schools that offered him scholarships like UT, OU and USC are horrible at evaluating talent. When you write that Gilmer lost in the first round of the playoffs Kinne's senior year you fail to mention that the team that beat them (by three points) was the eventual state champion. As a junior Kinne took a Canton team that had no other D-1 talent to the state quarterfinals. You question his running style? Kinne rushed for more than 1,000 yards as a junior and as a senior and scored 15 rushing touchdowns each season, too. I saw him play in person many times and I assure you his running style is very Tim Tebow-like. Kinne's problem at Texas had nothing to do with his accuracy or anything else he could control. His problem at Texas was he was playing behind a record-setting quarterback who has two years of eligibility left. GJ Kinne will be an all-conference D-1 quarterback. I don't care where he lands. I would trade him straight up for Riley and Vizza. We will have to wait and see, I guess.
  5. Keep sipping that Mean Green Kool-Aid, Dodge2007, G.J. would certainly start over either of our guys (by the way, I love Vizza and Dodge). I have seen all three play in person and GJ is a more accurate passer and has a stronger arm than Vizza and Dodge. Kinne is certainly faster than Vizza and while he is probably not as fast as Dodge, he is a very tough runner (I would compare him to Tim Tebow in that he can't outrun defensive backs, but db's tend to bounce off him). Here is further logic for why GJ would start ahead of our guys. GJ was recruited by Texas because Mack Brown thought he was good enough to play quarterback for the Longhorns. Riley Dodge was recruited by the Longhorns as an athlete because Mack Brown did not think he was good enough to play quarterback for the Longhorns. I love Dodge and Vizza, but I am not so disillusioned that I think they are better than GJ Kinne. I guess you think Dodge and Vizza would start over Colt McCoy, too... Heck, our guys probably would have relegated Vince Young to the bench if they had played for the Longhorns in 2005... PS -- Bad news for Mean Green fans... the rumor mill has Kinne landing at SMU.
  6. G.J. Kinne is not insurance, he is a headliner. He would be perfect for our offense, but with Riley coming he is not a good fit here. Kinne will go be a star QB at a BCS school. He wasted his redshirt at Texas last year. Instead of transferring to a BCS school immediately and losing another year of eligibility, the best move for him would be to go to a junior college this season, get a year of experience under his belt and then transfer to a BCS school where he could start as a sophomore. It never made sense for Kinne to go to Texas in the first place with how loaded they were at QB, but he is a special talent and that will shine through somewhere else.
  7. Yes, it is my address. I want him to be my cellmate.
  8. I would welcome Justin Willis to Denton: The Denton County Jail.
  9. The Justin Willis era at SMU is OVER. Too bad for him, he showed so much promise at Denton Ryan and as a college freshman. But I guess beating up gay people, fathering out of wedlock babies with girls he met at church and skipping study hall is more fun than being a Division IA quarterback. I was pretty disappointed Dickey failed to land this guy, atleast one good thing has come of Darrell being such a lazy recruiter. June Jones must have been looking for someone to make an example of and he had his perfect fall guy in Willis: an overhyped "star" with a bad attitude who didn't really fit into his system. There was a reason Jones signed 3 QBs in his first recruiting class.
  10. This is old news. This is like someone posting on the TCU board that Cougar McBride beat up a student in front of the UNT library.
  11. Every year we lose players of varying degrees of talent because of grades, homesickness, issues with playing time, issues with motivation, etc. All teams do. I do not have any inside info, but it seems that nautique and kbj do and the names above are the rumored candidates to be leaving the team for whatever reason.
  12. Nautique has officially achieved "Enlightened Insider" status!!! Keep the inside info coming Nautique, I congratulate you on breaking news first.
  13. Since everybody got their panties in a wad when I pointed out Todd Dodge's problems recruiting defensive tackles, it is only fair to point out that Marquay Love, who just got cut by Bill Parcells, ditched UNT and Darrell Dickey at the last second in favor of Cougar High, where he had a pretty solid college career... Oh what might have been...
  14. Banks is just another player who failed to live up to his potential. His scholarship was being wasted and hopefully Todd Dodge can find someone more deserving to give it to.
  15. Dodge did not start Riley at QB at SLC until his junior season. Chase Daniel was the starting QB Riley's freshman year and Greg McElroy handled the job when Riley was a sophomore. Todd Dodge will play the best player. Considering all factors, it makes sense that Riley would redshirt this season. In 2009, we could be looking at a two-headed quarterback like Florida used with Chris Leak and Tim Tebow. That seemed to work out well.
  16. Buckels was a player at LSU while Rick Villareal was coaching there. I wonder what role RV played in influencing this hire? At any rate, from what I hear this guy was brought on board to carry a heavy portion of the recruiting load. He has a lot of recruiting experience, but no ties to Texas. His concentration was in Mississippi and Louisiana. Dodge has the Texas high school coaches wrapped around his finger so it seems smart to bring on someone else who can reel 'em in from outside the Lone Star State.
  17. Do rapists knowingly hurt innocent people? Do murderers knowingly kill innocent people? Do "under the influence" drivers knowingly get behind the wheel of a vehicle and hurt and kill innocent people? The answer to all three questions is YES. Thus I have a valid comparison.
  18. Do you defend rapists and murderers, too? How would you feel if an "under the influence" driver killed someone you loved?
  19. Neither has OJ. Actually OJ got convicted of pirating DirecTV in 2005.
  20. I disagree. He is one of the few players who represent UNT in the NFL. Good thing we have guys like Brian Waters to make up for this embarrassment. Shame on you Adrian Awasom.
  21. http://www.azcentral.com/news/articles/020...dui0201-ON.html
  22. Pretty amazing that he couldn't even get a head coaching job in high school. Yikes.
  23. The weird thing about this SMU recruiting class is how "national" the recruits are. Reading on PonyFans, the Mustangs are going after kids from New Jersey to California. Jones keeps talking about recruiting Dallas, but that is not being reflected in the kids he is bringing in to visit. My guess is he got such a late start in recruiting for SMU that he decided to focus on the kids he was trying to bring to Hawaii instead of DFW recruits.
  24. http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dw...on.2dfef03.html We know that Dodge and the rest of college coaches are guilty of this, too, but I'm glad SMU really looks like the bad guy here. It is even worse for SMU because this happened to a minority athlete. It is hard enough to recruit minority athletes there in the first place (why would a minority athlete want to go to a school with such a small percentage of minorities enrolled? UNT, on the other hand, is a diversity wonderland with a thriving minority community.) Haha SMU!
