A little disappointed that Weathers did not get the DB award, if it had not been for #38 things would have been even worse (if that is possible. I wish Aaron the best, I know him personally and I know he is working out, getting ready for the next level. I feel he has a legitament shot to make a name for himself. I believe, he is disappointed about the postseason recognition but he is using it as motivation. Such a shame his senior year was under Mendoza! Best of luck Aaron make UNT proud!

distractions are part of the game...the distraction has nothing to do with the lack of defensive performance. Next year will prove what this guy has as a DC at the college DI level. I know this is getting old but true. Good luck seniors!

Are you serious? Certainly cannot be for schemes or adjustments or being a player coach that can motivate players to buy into his system. I think those are the things you look for in a DC

OK...Mendoza is terrible and no the players do not play hard for him. How smart is TD if he allows Mendoza to be his downfall bc he is a friend.

That win was because of the heart of those Defensive guys...coaching had nothing to do with the win. Do not be fooled by this win...Mendoza is still a terrible coach and has no business being a DC at the D1 level. Not only does he not know how to prepare for opposing teams...he does not know how to motivate and encourage football players at this level.

Rick I always enjoy reading your post...you seem to know what UNT has in Aaron Weathers. It has bothered me all season that there is not any attempt to get him around the ball. Ark State has a good safety in T. Johnson and the DC is constantly sending him on blitz, letting him just roam and make plays. UNT DC has wasted the talent of a very solid safety. I agree God bless these defensive players!

Seriously, Mendoza is the worst DC I have ever watched coach the game of football. And what is so bad we have a couple of guys on defense that has a shot at the next level but he is even making it tough for them to get a legitmate look. Mendoza's coaching is not correctable...HE IS NOT A D1 COACH. I actually did not think things could get that much worse but Mendoza proved me wrong!

Good...Go ask a mechanic for medical advice! Expierence and knowledge about a particular issue is far more credible than someone giving some uninformed off the cuff opinion. P.S. I hate taco bell!

Chances for what?... I post when the topic is worth discussing. Yea, probably jumped the gun on my respsonse to your post. I just feel that many people comment on issues that they have no clue because they have not had the experience. Another point is that a person can make a comment that makes a certain group or population feel uncomfortable without being a racist. I think that is the issue we have with D. Green...the comment not whether or not someone is racist. Being sensitive to differences and how to respond to others that are different than you in any setting is a must. If D. Green feels that he was mistreated in some way that is his right...The way that he handled it might not have been the best course of action. Let's all remember that these are young men being prepared for the real world. I apologize if I misunderstood your post.

My point...it does not matter what has happened in the past. This is an isolated situation so what happened on Saturday night is what's in question. Do not get me wrong...I am not suggesting that anything wrong happened on Saturday...nobody knows but those involved. Hopefully this will be resolved soon and we can get back to talking about football.

This is an unfortunate situation and very difficult to say the least. I do not have an opinion on the D. Green situation bc there just is not enough information right now. However, I will say unless you have been discriminated against it is really hard to comment on such issues. Just because one may feel that it will have damaging consequences on the University, the athletic program or the football coaching staff is not reason to dismiss the allegations until all the facts are known. The comment about all the many African American athletes that has represented UNT throughtout the years and therefore means that it is not a racist University is a very IGNORANT comment and mindset. The allegations of D. Green is not against the University it is about an isolated comment from a particular coach and the coach's comment is what is in question. Not all this other stuff that some of you are talking about!

I must agree...I am a huge Weathers fan however because he is not from Texas I do not think he gets the props he deserves. The kid is respected by everyone on the team, great in the classroom, and the best athlete. He does his job on and off the field

Is it just me or has anyone else noticed defensively we do not have a nickel package or a goal line D...first year or not that is ridiculous. This DC will not improve when my grandson starts playing football...and my daughter is only three years old. I just hate that our senior D-players have to play their last year under this guy. If the defense is ranked last in DI football, Mendoza should be ranked the worse DC in college, HS, and little league. He is not even giving the D a fighting chance. When the D makes a stop it is bc of the players...not the coaching! For the players sake it is really hard to watch.

This was the first conference game that the other team was clearly better than UNT...would have like to have a better showing but Troy is a very good team. UNT has A LOT of upside and there has been great improvement. I think all the talk about the DC was bc there was no improvement and we are seeing some now(still do not like the defensive schemes). However, I believe UNT will once again be the powerhouse of the conference...just wish some of the seniors would be around to experience the turnaround

Weathers would be my pick...I do not think we have witnessed his best. 3 DC, 3 position coaches...how difficult is that. He is a good kid, great student, smart on the field and an athlete. Late round pick!

The defense played like everyone expected them to play...it all came together last night. This was more about the players than the scheme. D-line got a push...LB played from sideline to sideline...DB covered well and provided good run support. Safety Aaron Weathers was able to play his position and did not have to worry about everybody else...chasing the ball 50 yards down the field, Weathers is a playmaker. ESPN announcer stated several times during the game that Weathers is one that should be playing on Sundays! Overall the D-line impressed me the most.

Good win...My hat goes off to the players. They played with intensity...like we all knew they could.
