  1. I am bringing up this topic to make a point so stay with me. Our High School Football team won their game last night over Sapulpa. Why is this such a big deal? For two reasons. Jenks has always been a powerhouse team in Oklahoma sending players every year to D-1 schools. Last week Sapulpa handed Jenks a loss during the class 6A playoffs. We went in as underdogs, playing on Sapulpa's field and came out with a 42-27 win. Mustang now advances to the semi-finals next week. We are playing with a quarterback that is maybe 5'6" tall but he plays like he is 6'5". He is one of, if not the best quarterback in 6A at this time. I realize the odds are against him to play D-1 ball but he plays with such attitude! This is my second point. ATTITUDE DOES MATTER. I realize coaching has a lot to do with the win-loss record, but so does the attitude the players carry out onto the field. We've been watching the Mustang team on TV this year and the whole team plays with ATTITUDE. They do not give up! We're still following NT and I can't help but wonder where the Mean Green would be at this time if they had the attitude that this 5'6" I WILL WIN quarterback had.
  2. Unfortunately, we do not have JINB's here in Oklahoma, or at least not in the OKC area. I voted Tacos since that was my husbands favorite place to eat after the bars/clubs closed before we met. It is also one of the places we look up when we travel out of state. He still loves their tacos.
  3. I'm not posting to try to sway opinions either way about Travis, but know this... He is not a quitter. He has never quit at anything in his life and this was the most difficult decision he has ever had to make. What has happened is a tragedy because this was a young man who totally lived for sports. He played every sport that was available in this area to the point that it caused him some injuries. His doctor told him that his body was not getting the rest it needed due to his always pushing it. We had to force him to narrow his playing to just 2 sports, played at different times of the year. Even after this, we found out that he was still going out and playing in pick up games/leagues. To go through not one but two surgeries and rehab as well, and to practice hard to prove that you can still play the game in the same manner that you did before the injury, should prove to anyone that he is not a quitter. Yes, he wanted to play more than anything but with all that had happened since his arrival (I won't go into details about this, but as someone else posted earlier, there is more to the story), to work hard, endure the pain and swelling of the last surgery just to sit on the sidelines and feel you will never have a chance to show what you can do, then yes, he chose to move on. He has a lot of confidence in himself and his abilities and he knew he could contribute if allowed to do so, but his reality was that it just was not going to happen so he made a very, very difficult decision to move on. As a parent, it hurt us knowing that what he had worked so hard for was simply not going to happen, but life does go on. He has made an adult decision, knows the consequences and is moving on with his life. He made some wonderful friends while there, both on the field and off, some of which he will continue to stay in contact with. For those who have been there, you understand the situation, for those who haven't, you're entitled to your opinion, but always remember there are two sides to every story. In our eyes, we are very proud of what our son has accomplished and what he will accomplish in the future. His next goal is to be a fireman/paramedic, so he starts his training next semester. Besides football, he's always wanted to be a fireman. Who knows, someday he may just be the one to save your home or your life! Anyway, we will continue to follow the Mean Green and hope that they can turn this season around. To JIMMY and CHASE, our adopted players... HANG IN THERE GUYS, WE"RE STILL PULLING FOR YOU!!!
  4. I did not vote on this one because I want to keep my personal feelings out of this. I believe in the players and their talent and will continue to support those young men in green on the field. I will mention though that there is a real problem when the players have no respect for their coaches. And that's all I've got to say about that... Forrest Gump
  5. Just wanted to clear up what I meant about "BAD ASS ATTITUDE." It means going into a game knowing you own the field, it's your house and you take no prisoners! It does not mean pulling off cheap hits, blocks, etc. If you are confident in your abilities, there is no room for unsportslikeman conduct. As I have said before, the talent is there but we're lacking the confidence and attitude.
  6. After much thought, it seems to me that we as fans can second guess all we want to. The bottom line is the players themselves have got to look within themselves and decide how they want to perform from here on out. Losing a game can be a positive if you learn from it and correct the mistakes and attitudes that contributed to the loss. I mention attitudes because it is a BIG part of the game as well. This team needs to know they can win and carry that onto the field. We need leaders to step up on both sides of the ball. At this point, it's their attitude that concerns me more than anything else. They have talent and I for one still believe in them just as many of you do. For those players who do read this, do not doubt yourselves! You just need some BAD ASS ATTIDUDE!!! (Can I say that on this board? If not sorry, I'm not one to use this type of language but doing so cuts to the chase.)
  7. JIMMY, TRAVIS & CHASE, YOU'VE GOT THE FIRST GAME UNDER YOUR BELT. SHOW TULSA WHAT YOU'RE MADE OF. WE'LL BE IN THE STANDS CHEERING YOU AND THE OTHERS ON TO VICTORY!!! GO NT!
  8. The local news last night reported that Adrian Peterson would not play this Saturday. Of course it's always seems to be subject to change on a daily basis.
  9. There are at least 14 of us coming from the OKC area.
  10. Weatherdemon, How is Mike Mengers doing? Our son and Mike played together all through Junior High, High School and Junior College. For the first time, they will be on opposite teams. A lot of people are coming from our hometown to watch the game this weekend and many are unsure who to pull for since they're both from the same town.
  11. It's MEAN GREEN TIME! Let's play ball. Those who can not attend the game, let the players know you support them before they leave out today. A lot of them read this board.
  12. TO OUR FAVORITE ADOPTED PLAYERS JIMMY CHANEY AND CHASE PISTOLE AND TO OUR SON TRAVIS... GIVE EM' HELL BOYS!!! SEE YOU GUYS THERE. GO MEAN GREEN!
  13. There are 4 of us going from Oklahoma and we're hooking up with my neice and a friend of hers who is going as well. Total 6.
  14. Oklahoma is also getting refugees. There are 12 families here in the metro area, some in Muskogee and next week they are preparing Falls Creek Baptist Church Camp Grounds into an area for refugees. I know they'll be more to come. Also, HUD has taken all HUD properties off the market in Texas, Oklahoma, Georgia and a couple of other states, to provide housing as well.
  15. Thanks Coffee and TV. It's looks like I did remember most of that article correctly. It goods to know since I've reached the mid century mark, I'm not losing my memory yet! Back to the original topic of this thread, I have been by an intersection near our home which has gas stations on 3 of the 4 corners and have yet to see anyone getting gas. I've been by at least 5 times this morning and no one is at the pumps. I don't know if they all got the message or are shell shocked by the fact that yesterday we were paying $2.44 and this morning it was $2.97.
  16. Being neither a scientist or chemist ( barely passed these courses in HS), I may be calling the technology I referred to by the wrong name. The information came from an article I read and if I remember correctly, the hydrogen passed between two screens or plates and it was that process of what happened between the plates that caused the energy. Maybe I am totally confused on how it took place and maybe it was not hydrogen, but they did say it was very fuel efficient and that it was being used in the northwest. The only problem was the water which was a by product. Maybe those in the know can explain all this in a much better fashion than I. Personally, I'm all for pursuing the idea of producing fuel from cut grass. I sure cut enough of it on our acreage. It would be nice to have your own still to produce fuel from your lawn!
  17. Since several of us have adopted and or drafted players, are we going to have an ongoing thread so that we can post words of encouragement, praise etc. for the guys? I know a lot of them read this.
  18. Not that I'm an expert on this subject, but a big part of the problem in switching fuels and becoming less dependant and/or free of fossil fuels is the impact on thousands of people not only here but around the world who depend on the industry for their livelihood. There was a movie some years back with Keanue(spelling?) Reeves that covered this issue and the movie made a lot of sense when you think about it. In fact, the story line was about how our own government tried to stop Mr. Reeves and his associates from producing fuel made through processing water. The scary part about this is that we currently have the technology to produce fuel through I think what they called Hydrogen cells and the byproduct is of course water instead of exhaust. In fact, there are mass transit systems currently using these systems. I would also like to mention that there is research being done at OSU in which they have successfully developed a fuel from cut grass. The problem is that right now it costs about $1.00 a gallon to produce it. As for the auto industry, I know for a fact that GM has developed pilot cars using alternative fuel sources, but until there is a big demand for them, they'll probably remain behind closed doors. I personally believe there is a conspiracy to stop us from totally switching to other fuels because of the economic impact around the world, but I won't get into politics. I'm trying to figure out how to tie this into football but haven't figured out how except to say "GO MEAN GREEN - SEE YOU IN TENNESSEE!!!
  19. I agree with Adler. You feel guilty staying in a hotel knowing a homeless person/family or rescue workers may need that room. I've checked with the hotel we are staying at to see if this is the case but could not get through. The corporate office said the phonelines and electricity were out at the hotel which is located 1 1/2 miles from LSU. As stated before, we are making alternate lodging plans should the game be played.
  20. We've spoken to some LSU fans that we were to meet once we got there, and they indicate the game is still on. I agree with an earlier post that if the game is going to be played, use this opportunity to gather donations for the victims. I've also been told that it may be hard to get the hotel rooms, even though they've been reserved so I'm getting ready to check on that. We have friends we can stay with if that should be the case but it's something those who are going should think about. Personally, I can see them cancelling the game but you never know. We're making alternate plans should they play and plan on taking some work clothes in case there is something we can do to help out (clean up, etc.).
  21. A couple of years ago we had a freak wind storm come through our town with 92 to 100 mile an hour straight winds. We had to yell at each other to be heard over the noise of the wind. You could hear trees cracking and falling and it was something I will never forget. After the storm, our neighborhood looked like a war zone. Already knowing what damage these kinds of winds can cause, I am greatly concerned for all in the path of Katrina. The Air National Guard is being activated here in Oklahoma and several organizations here are already on their way to Louisania with food, water, etc. I'm sure all the neighboring states are preparing to help out as well. Should the game not be cancelled, may I suggest that those who still plan on attending, pack a few extra survival items such as non-perishable foods, water, toothpaste, toothbrushes, soap, etc. to leave with the victims of the hurricane.
  22. Since Harry has already adopted Travis (Thanks Harry), I will adopt JIMMY CHANEY. He is Travis' roommate and it will be easy to stay in contact with him. He's a big guy and I wish him lots of success during his time with the MEAN GREEN. My husband would like to adopt CHASE PISTOLE. He also played football with Travis at NEO. We are expecting a lot from all three young men. DO US PROUD!!! GO TRAVIS, GO JIMMY, GO CHASE.
  23. Should the game be moved because of Katrina, where would it be moved to? We were going to fly in for the game but I'm beginning to rethink that plan.
  24. Good to see a MADE IN AMERICA sponsor for an ALL AMERICAN TEAM!!!
  25. A BIG Thank you from my husband and I as well. I understand it was VERY good!!!
