  1. Personally I chose a stadium. Conference USA isnt the promised land. It would be nice to be in it, but nothing guarantees that league will even look the same as it does now in 3-5 years. Building a stadium allows us to always have all the pieces to play, recruit, etc with anyone. And I dont buy the "why build a stadium when you cant fill the one you have" train of thought. If you build it, they will come. Out of the cornfields and all. they will come.
  2. dont they play each other next year?
  3. probably having more beers somewhere after the big12 championship game, rambling about NT trying to defend a 2-9 campaign to a bunch of Longhorn/big12 fans, moaning about the travails of life in the sunbelt conference, wishing it was my team that was going to the rose bowl, etc... however if I were in DFW, i would most certainly enjoy some NT bball and some fry street
  4. KState is not a perennial top 10 team. However, Synder helped make them a top 25 for a while, and I am certain KState will be very diligent to make sure they find someone that will maintainthe successful program he has built there. Which is why DD was never in contention. They would do well to get someone that already knows how a program like that runs, what it takes to be in a major conference (hint: its not just coaching skills, they have to be CEO's as well), etc.
  5. That right there is the problem with NT. Even the "Fry Street Journal" has little faith in the program and perpetuates the small time mentality. I knew we should have had more people at the games. The team with the most people at their games usually wins, right? I mean look no further than Tennessee and A&M this year. They have huge support and massive stadiums. I see his point
  6. Id be interested in joining and helping out in any capacity that is needed. I thought there was a gulf coast exes chapter, but I didnt know if there was something that served the houston area specifically... its a big enough city one would think it would warrant its own Exes club. I would like to get something together for the UH game. It would also be nice to do the monthly happy hour thing
  7. The only thing that beats me down more than hockey is NASCAR. I cant believe they broadcast the NASCAR races over the RADIO on 105.3 sundays in DFW. Who could sit for 4 hours and listen to a car race?
  8. is there a website for the houston (gulf coast) exes? Or a contact #? Thanks in advance
  9. with 2 univeristies in our system, would we not be eligible for more monies from the state? Seems like UT and A&M both get mega bucks for their multi-school systems. Im fairly ignorant when it comes to the public education system with respects to funds, etc so bear with.
  10. Thanks- that makes sense. Sounds like a case of doing the right thing the wrong way. Hopefully this set back allows them to figure out the best way to meet the needs of the targeted demographic. Also, the UNT-Dallas billboard leaving dallas looks great
  11. why do we even need a UNT-SoDal campus? I know that in here in Houston, UH has a UH-Downtown campus, but Im not even sure what the point of that is Is there a need for an additional campus in dallas?
  12. agreed. I will definately be at the Houston game, and may be able to make the A&M game if I can get off work a little early. Could be fun
  13. succinct adj, Characterized by clear, precise expression in few words; concise and terse: a succinct reply; a succinct style.
  14. not usually, most bowl games maintain the same title sponser, ie, Capital One Bowl, Tostitos Fiesta, EV1.net Houston Bowl, Nokia Sugar, etc...
  15. I dont know, UH just knocked off #25 LSU on the road on tuesday
  16. I will also be there... figured I would wear my NT hat since they have fans wearing their hats at our games
  17. That thing was a disaster, I agree. I watched it at RBar, and I thought they were playing in an airplane hanger. It just makes me laugh thinking back 2004 at the NMSU game. A friend of mine casully expresses his opinions of NMSU by yelling in his best drunken slur, "New Mexico State sucks", outside the satdium. Poor fella, the 3 hours of tailgating had gotten to him. Anyways the afflicted NMSU fan turns around and says, "Yeah well we may suck be we are going to the WAC, have fun in the Sun Belt losers!" Ahhh, I wonder what he is up to now... (fades into dream sequence)
  18. Idaho? how about the spareness of NMSU? What an abortion of a season. Glad to see they are enjoying the same success they enjoyed in the Belt.
  19. Patterson isnt going anywhere. Bennett isnt going anywhere. I think SMU has turned the corner--- just in time to play us. Typical. In fact I would pick them to win 7 games next year. They have a ton of returning starters next year. They also ended their season beating Houston and UTEP... tell me, how close do you think we would have kept those games?
  20. To tell you the truth, I kinda like the "Red Wolves" better. I mean, how many Indians are there? Same reason Im glad we use the Eagle as a logo and call ourselves the "mean green".
  21. They promise these kids they will play. Its actually better now with scholarship limits than it was back when Texas could take everyone they wanted and have tons of guys riding the bench. When they do play they will have around 8 chances a year to be on national television (or ESPN, or FSN) versus a 0 national (ABC, CBS, etc) broadcasts at UH or UNT and a couple ESPN2 showings. Thats another difference. Also, schools like UNT and UH dont have 50-80k fans in the stands. Anyone that has been in that environment knows how exciting it can be (unless its us @ Texas, which sucks immensley). The energy is crazy. Some players like the big stage. I dont know if this answers the quesiton. I dont understand outside of the reasons I listed why someone wouldnt want to be a star on a team like UNT or UH rather than ride a bench. I think it takes a special kind of athlete to stray from the norm but I do think we have some of them here right now. You will see more of the athletes you speak of at NT as we continue to build facilities, improve our national image and get back to WINNING. ...oh, and Im no expert, just opinionated
  22. Yeah a degree from there is virtually useless. So is a college world series.
  23. Granted NT and Tennessee are different institutions with different expectations, I think its a pretty cool move by fulmer (whether its a case of CYA or not) Fulmer issues email apology to students sorry, had the wrong link at first, should be fixed now.
