  1. We'll lose by 50 or 60 with Benford coaching
  2. 9 SEED—NORTH TEXAS MEAN GREEN (12-19, 7-13) Coach: Tony Benford STRENGTHS: Tony Mitchell is a sure first round NBA draft pick, and, although his numbers are down a little from last year, he’s a double double waiting to happen every time he steps on the court. He’s an unselfish player on the offensive end and the best shot blocker in the league, although he doesn’t have the most blocked shots. Sophomore Jordan Williams can really score the basketball. Roger Franklin is a very good rebounder despite being undersized. And, the Mean Green have Chris Jones back after he missed 16 games with a broken foot. Jones is an excellent point guard who averages nearly five assists per game. UNT has some depth at just about every position. Very good free throw shooting team. WEAKNESSES—Mitchell and Franklin are prone to foul trouble. This team doesn’t shoot it very well from the perimeter, less than 29% from three point range. Williams can shoot it, but the others are hit and miss from the perimeter. Team doesn’t force a lot of turnovers. OUTLOOK:–But let’s face it. This team puts the dys in dysfunctional. The players never bought into Benford’s system and it’s pretty obvious there have been chemistry and locker room issues all season. The injury to Jones notwithstanding, this has been the biggest underachieving team the Sun Belt has seen in recent memory. And, it can all be traced, at least for now, to the selection of Benford. It’s too early to call him the Todd Dodge of basketball, But AD Rick Villareal probably isn’t a happy guy right now. But make no mistake. The talent is there. And, this team has put it together in Hot Springs before. The question is, can they do it with Benford as coach. http://espn1420.com/sun-belt-tournament-preview-bracket-one-from-the-birds-nest/
  3. To me, WKU is still head and shoulders above ASU or ULL. Much better overall athletic program, athletic budget and a rich basketball tradition.
  4. I prefer WKU over either arkansas state or ull if someone is to be added. WKU has a much bigger athletic budget, much better over all athletic program and a consistantly good basketball team.
  5. "The Mean Green should be better, but...................." I am so sick of the above................ I want to see WINS and not a string of lame excuses for loses. To me this is a pivotal year for Coach Mac. He needs to put some W's on the scoreboard, or we need to shop for a new coach. Losing and mediocre seasons need to become a thing of the past at North Texas. I have no more patience for poor performance and excuses.
  6. North Texas Non-Conference Games: Idaho, at Ohio, Ball State, at Georgia Games Against the East: Middle Tennessee, at Southern Miss Realistic Best Case Record: 6-6 Worst Case Record: 1-11 Likely Finish: 2-10 Pre-Preseason Projected Wins: Idaho, UTSA Pre-Preseason Projected Losses: at Ohio, Ball State, at Georgia, at Tulane, Middle Tennessee, at Louisiana Tech, at Southern Miss, Rice, UTEP, at Tulsa Summary: The Mean Green should be better, but the record probably won’t show it unless they can handle a few 50/50 games at home. Middle Tennessee, Ball State and UTEP could all go either way, and UNT needs to win them all with a run of four road games in five and finishing up the regular season with a trip to Tulsa. The late part of the season is helped by not having any November road games until the finale, but there can’t be any mistakes. Throw in away games at Ohio, Georgia and Louisiana Tech, and Idaho and UTSA become must wins. 2013 Schedule 8/31 Idaho 9/7 at Ohio 9/14 Ball State 9/21 at Georgia 9/28 OPEN DATE 10/5 at Tulane 10/12 Middle Tennessee 10/19 at Louisiana Tech 10/26 at Southern Miss 11/2 Rice 11/9 UTEP 11/16 OPEN DATE 11/23 UTSA 11/30 at Tulsa http://cfn.scout.com/2/1267191.html
  7. Bigger budget. Much better basketball. Football now on the upswing. Just better overall strength as a conference mate (my opinion). Arkansas State and ULL are exactly where the should be; in the Sun Belt.
  8. Shame on him for telling the truth & not wrapping himself in Mean Green excuses for failure.
  9. North Texas is struggling to put together a solid roster. This year’s class is doing the team no favors. There is a major gap occurring between the needs of the team and the signees that roll into campus. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1516964-grading-every-fbs-teams-2013-recruiting-class/page/87#/articles/1516964-grading-every-fbs-teams-2013-recruiting-class/page/100
  10. Looks like Texas State signed 10 JUCOs as did Louisiana Tech.
  11. Seems that Mac has anointed BB as the king and designated other transfers as his royal court.
  12. Coming out of red-shirt. How many red-shirt freshmen will we have ? Positions, other info...................thanks.
  13. NMSU would be happy with ANY FBS conference affiliation. Wish 'um luck !
  14. If we can't bite the bullet & get rid of Benford, reassign him. Yep, we'd have to pay him, but it would be worth it to salvage our basketball program. Could probably pay him with ticket sales money that would be lost if he remains as head coach. We just can't afford another Trilli era !
  15. Interesting. From a post on the CUSA board Post: #1 New CUSA TV Market Increase A few things from the CUSA Athletic Directors Meeting: http://www.fiusports.com/Sports/MensSpor...tings.aspx " The meetings also saw the release of updated league TV market information. Starting next year, C-USA home markets will include more than 14.5 million TV households, an increase of 43% over the current 10.1 million homes. Conference USA has television agreements with Fox Sports Networks and CBS Sports Network, and ESPN will continue to carry the C-USA Football Championship. As one of the largest BCS conferences in 2013, C-USA membership will include institutions in 12 of the Top 65 television markets, eight in the Top 40 and four in the Top 25 media markets according to Nielson." "We had extremely productive meetings and we are fortunate to have such a great group," C-USA Commissioner Britton Banowsky said. "Our new members bring added competitive strength, especially in the areas of football and basketball, and we have dramatically increased the size of our television footprint. Our Conference generally represents growing institutions, in large markets, which are ambitious and have made significant investments. They are well positioned to be the next generation of great programs. We have tremendous upside potential.
  16. UNT basketball is a train wreck. Can't help but wonder where this team would stand if JJ had stayed (sigh). Hope it doesn't happen, but it seems that Benford is Mean Green basketballs Todd Dodge. This year is a true penthouse to the outhouse story.
