  1. In answer to the thread, no North Texas has not killed it's CUSA appeal with a single truly awful football season! First, I don't believe Tulane is dropping football just yet. Second, conferences look at far more than a single season in a single sport's record. Lack of baseball and our current facilities hurt us more than a football team at can't beat most out of conference opponents. We are working on correcting both of those problems.
  2. Everything I've heard is you're LUCKY if you only get spat upon! It seems the LSU fans have started filling containers with liquid best left in the rest room to pour/spray/splatter on the opponents fans. At OU, Nebraska and Texas they might boo and tease you, but they do not do that!
  3. The stadium looks a bit better than Fouts, but not a LOT better than Fouts. I can understand CUSA's thinking when they looked at Fouts, LaTech's stadium and the Sun Bowl why they would pick UTEP!
  4. Why would the SBC ask SMS or whatever they are now to join? What do they have to offer - women's basketball We have enough members for now and everyone says so. With the rules changes, no one is likely to be forced to drop to 1AA. Western is making a slow, but steady move toward 1A football with a slow, but steady upgrade of their facilities. That is no reason at all for the SBC to ask SMS to join and I don't believe the conference actually did.
  5. With a red shirt freshman starting QB and a true freshman backing him up, I don't think a spread offense is a good idea. Especially if you've seen how many passes hit our receivers in the hands and get dropped! Yes, DD probalby should have recruited a better QB to give these guys some time to mature, but they don't just grow on trees. And nothing can be done about that right now anyway - we have to play with who we have. I'm not sure what to do now with what we have. I'm hoping a for some better and faster reads by both QBs and receivers.
  6. The math isn't as simple as attendance times X dollars. Since students pay as part of their fees and their attendance counts when they show up, it's a bit more complicated. But, RV said years ago that is we could average 25K at a game even at current ticket prices would could get rid of the money games.
  7. I hate the old option offense. It only works well when you practice it every single day for hours. Even then, it usually results in a higher number of turn overs. Our O line seems to have a hard enough time blocking for I formation, much less the movement needed to run option. I'm hoping for more short passes. If we make a D think we MIGHT pass (and have the receiver actually catch the ball!) I think that will open up the running game more.
  8. Yeah, that's why linemen were litterally throwing up after review sessions with him! Roger used to comment on how Tom would very calmly point out every error, no mater how tiny, over and over in film sessons.
  9. I thought Byerly grades didn't start to be an issue till late Spring. Isn't that too late to sign a JUCO Quarterback?
  10. Better question: is he EMPLOYED today?
  11. That "little drug problem" rules him out of any university job anywhere in the country.
  12. This thread seem to be straying from the main point: panicked fans seem always blaim the OC and accuse him of being "too conservative," "trying to keep from losing the game" and "not trying to win it." An interesting observation from a head coach who's been in the Top 10 quite often.
  13. Looks like the next game if Friday (tomorrow) at 7pm. NT Soccer Schedule
  14. Been there and done that! Dennis Parker shows what a coach with a few 5A state championships as an assistant and head coach can do at the college level. The answer was not much. Although in fairness to him, the only good year Matt Simon has was his first when Parker's players were seniors.
  15. Kevin was at the roast for Bill Mercer.
  16. Don't forget San Jose State for "pulling 'em down!"
  17. Well, how could he NOT be in an "us against the world" situation. If you read these message boards, many, if not most, of the vocal fans want him fired. A number want him fired in the middle of the season! Glad to read the team is moving on and getting ready for the next game instead of dwelling on something that cannot be changed. A tough loss is suppose to leave a bad taste in your mouth, not make you want to give up. Something football teaches players is you can't worry about what just happened. There's another play to run in 25 seconds and another game against another opponent next week. Learn not to repeat a mistake, but move on!
  18. In theory, we can still win the conference and go back to the New Orleans Bowl in Lafayette. At this point, I will be pleased if we can finish the season with the Meager looking good for next year and whomever is going to be on the Offensive line next year looking like they can block for J-Mo. Oh yes, and cutting the times wide receivers have balls hit them in their hands and the drop the ball! We should get at least a couple of more wins during the rest of the season. I think we could have a "salvaged" season with a 6-5 record and no bowl. Right now, I doubt we'll do that well.
  19. Are you talking about THIS board? It'd be pretty empty is we did that!
  20. That is a lot easier said than done! Which games last year were we so comfortably ahead that we could just sit Scott down and say let the kid take it. We don't care if he's ineffective or worse yet, throws an interception. It's not just us with this problem. You pointed out that OU has the same problem. Plus, most NFL teams also have the same problem with getting a young player experience. Usually it's at the end of a game with a VERY big lead or in a pre-season game.
  21. I've followed NT football since the mid-70's and making lots of stupid penalties seems to be our most consistent trait! Hayden Fry had it reduced, but there seemed to be one or two every game. I think the stupid penalties peaked under Simon, but they were plentiful with Nelson and Parker as well. It looks like a simple lack of discipline, but for some reason it never really gets better.
  22. I just got off the phone with a co-worker and they are setting up right now. Many of the guys who work on Barney also work a lot of sports. My friend is going to be on the "low left endzone" camera. Besides Barney, he is on the A crew for Fox. He says the field looks better than it did last time he was there - I'm not sure which game that was.
  23. Don't forget to get a ticket for the duck! We've got to increase our DIS numbers. (That's ducks in seats.)
  24. First, a good programmer is never going to put on a taped game when any live game is available. Taped games are great at 2am, but don't draw flies otherwise. Second, the Southland Conference was PAYING Fox to air games - I don't know if they still are. Third, while I never expected the score to be what it was, I don't think anyone thought Tulas was "a small private school we should have our way with." The BEST case was a very hard, close game.
