  1. Hey everybody....remember this. We were without our BEST outside shooter against UTA. Against a zone, Collin Dennis would have hit at least 3 thees in like 5 attempts. Then, Coach Cross might have abandoned the zone, which would have opened things up for everyon else. I say that Dennis was the worst person (next to Wooden) that we could have been without against UTA. We are a better team and should have won without Dennis.
  2. Ryan McCoy can shoot the ball well. He just needs to calm down. Having Thompson at the 3 is fitting due to his size of 6'5. When facing a bigger shooting guard or 3, we are going to need someone to shut them down. Staring line-up is okay for now I suppose, but Collin Dennis is a player. He should be starting at 2 so JJ is going to have to decide between White and Bell at the 1. I say let's start Bell, Dennis, and Thompson with White for a speedy change of pace, and McCoy off bench. Bell can rotate back to 2 when Dennis needs a rest. Just my 2 cents. Truth be told - we are doing great and something is working right! Go Mean Green!
  3. I am most definitely there. Larry Bird's school is going down!
  4. I agree. That was a GREAT post and right on target. Mendoza needs to go, friendships aside. Also, we need to recruit some stud defensive lineman in a hurry. We have a big bag of nothing on the defensive line. Chapman is having a very bad year. We need two DT's who are 6'2- 6'3 and weigh 280 - 320 and can move a little. We also need two DE's who play similar to Willis Hudson from the Matt Simon / Dennis Parker era. Finally, we need better CB's and safety's and who resspect the coach. They are out there and shouldn't be too hard to find.
  5. Dez will play against OSU. I agree - there's no way White replaces Bell. We are going to need both against OSU's Byron Eaton and to rotate on him.
  6. I take full credit for my comment that Collin Dennis can flat out shoot... I am so happy he is here. He will fill K.D. and CWat's shoes just fine. I am also thrilled witih McCoy and Tristan Thompson. Hats off to Coach Jones and his staff or an EXCELLENT recrutiing job on those two and the boys from Louisiana.
  7. One word describes Cory Dixon - SOFT! UNT is wise not to purue him hard. He is not the best player on that team. If we are smart, we'd go after Argyle G Caden Dickerson. This kid has major game. He can shoot, drive, has court sense, and will come into his own this year. We need to take him from Texas Tech or others. Caden Dickerson is the gym of Argyle.
  8. Start only redshirt freshmen and sophomores. We are not playing for this year. I can already tell you from watching this year's team. Dickey left us with a big bag of nothing other than Jamario, J. Chapman and M. Holman. I also like C Fitzgerald and receiver.
  9. Perhaps the best thing about signing Willingham that has not been mentioned is that it allows Collin Dennis to think solely about playing shooting guard and scoring, scoring, scoring. I am telling you that Dennis is probably the best pure scorer we've had in a guard since Chris Davis.
  10. I just hope the inexperienced offensive line doesn't have our QB's going down one by one on the injury "unable to perform" list. I haven't heard anything negative about the OL in the articles or talks about the scrimmage, so that's good. I am thinking Meager against OU. Meager against SMU and we see Vizza briefly against SMU and possibly starting game 3.
  11. Awesome news! What a quality kid! Now, we have some great SLC players headed our way - Dodge, Fentriss, Derek Tomlin, Kyle Russo, Justin Padron. Now, let's get an OL from SLC because our OL needs a lot of help. Havng Vizza and Dodge is terrific, but it won't mean a thing if the OL continues to not be able to protect.
  12. Be very aware of the kids from Beaumont Ozen for the future. SR Kris Richard signed with Tulane and he's got major game. There is a junor at 6-8 named Willie Jefferson (?) that's got major shot blocking abiity, rebounds well, and can score okay Also, they have a PG who was a Freshman this year that was thier sixth man off the bench who's very impressive. His name escapes me. Andre Boutte, the head coach at Ozen, played at UNT. As for the SOC kids, I like Berry and Gipson, but they are not show stoppers . Now, J'Mison Morgan 6-11 Center and son of Ronnie Morgan, there's a PTP'er. Finally, keep an eye on 6'2 sophomore guard Caden Dickerson right down the road at Argyle. He's smooth and has major court skills and sense. I'd love to have him in a few years if Texas Tech doesn't take him first.
  13. I couldn't find this kid anywhere on the stat books for Midland JC in their title run. I see his picture, that he was on the roster ,and that he has had injury problems. I trust Johnny to know good talent. I am just concerned about signing JUCO kids witt injury problems - ex. Johnathon Jackson. Yes, I agree that Sturns or Dennis could play the two, but we need an athletic 6-4 to 6-6 three that can get to the whole and hit the medium range jumper.
  14. Emmitt, Look out for my main main Collin Dennis to step in at the 2 next year and line it up. The kids can flat out shoot the rock. His shooting is as good as C Wat or Chris Davis. Next year's starters: Bell Collin Dennis Sturns Q Wooden Mangrum to relieve Dennis and Sturns off Bench, Dennis can also play some point if need be. We'll have small quick guards and a powerful front court. Pretty exciting!!!
  15. I think our schedule wll be different next year. But, some teams may shy away from us becuase of our strength. My hope is that we have a great season and have one of those bracket buster games at home against another strong mid major. I'd enjoy seeing UNT vs. Winthrop, Butler or Xavier.
  16. Easy answer - Look at the Memphis roster on their website. At least 4 of them came from Prep Schools, which means they did not academically qualify out of high school. Then, they went to a prep school where they were "GIVEN" high grades so they could then move on to Memphis and play basketball full-time. In the post game interivews, one of the kids said something to the effect of..."I had to step up because otherwise, I would have had to go back to class and I definitely didn't didn't want to do that." Long story short....UNT is a team of student athletes. Memphis is a group of athletes many of whom have no intention of being a student. If you get a chance, watch HBO's Real Sports feature on prep schools. That shoudl tell you everything you need to know. I am proud of our kids for who they are. The kids at Memphis for the most part will never amount to anything except for maybe 1 NBA spare.
  17. AT least they guarded the inbounds passer. They cost us the game vs. UTA, nearly cost us the game at home vs. WKU, and cost us the game vs UNO at home. Geez, it's about time JJ learned his lesson.
  18. For the sake of argument, here is my top 5 three point shooters in UNT history based on how good of a shot they had or how confident I was when the ball left their hand 1. George King (the Archer from Mineral Wells) 2. Chad Elstun (another Jankovich Kansas guy with a beautiful shot) 3. Calvin Watson (best range of any 3 point shooter in UNT history and best shot from the corner) 4. Tom Etchison (what a release he had, this gym rat could have made many more had he not been the awkward PG) 5. Chris Davis (I loved when Chris rose and fired, always brought me to my feet, not a pretty shot but it got the job done) Honorable Mentions Rusty Walker Cedric Carson Ron Griffin (best shot for guy over 6'6 in UNT history) Donnel Hayden Jaquita Deaton...lol
  19. I still don't know how we lost to FIU.
  20. Oh, and I mght add that we didn't get Brett McDade to commit here. son of former UNT player Fred McDade.
  21. Well, it's good to see that this Hayden dishes the rock and is unselfish. I've never seen more of a ball hog than his dad when he plahed at UNT....lol. Well, his dad is proably all we had that year so take that with a grain of salt. Jesse was still young. If I'm not mistaken, Ronnie Morgan's son is the star player at Oak Cliff this year. If we did a better job keeping a good relatonship with our former basketball players, then we might have 2 very sold recruits for next year in Morgan and Hayden.
  22. It was great to see Marcus King, WR from Trinity here on a visit. Also, a LB named Brandon Iwuji from Hebron was visiting tonight. Justin Padron was also here although he has already committed.
  23. THe Mean Green Punch will suffice...lol.
