  1. I usually know everything and say even more, but I need some clarity.

Coach has a contract currently in force. She quits -- isn't fired. Contract contains a $100,000 buyout. This is reported in news stories without explanation, as if everyone knows what that means.

Confusion ensues. Who pays whom $100,000?

UNC-Charlotte receives the money. I think the coach has to pay it but usually the school hiring the coach pays it for them ... I think.

  2. i don't disagree with nader. athletes generally only help the country with entertainment value, whereas music, merit scholarships lead to other occupations which actually help out the community, be it teachers, researchers, etc. i would hate to see this happen, but it makes a bit of sense.

it's not just about kids getting an education, it's about kids helping out the community and making it better.

You're kidding, right? The vast majority of college athletes on scholorships go on to earn college degrees and excell in many different professions ...including teachers, researchers, etc (have you not seen the NCAA commercials about this? :) ). When I was growing up my coaches in middle school and high school had a huge impact upon my life. I wouldn't who I am today without them. Where did they get their education to become coaches and teachers? Oh, yeah! College! Many of them attend college on athletic scholarships!

I agree with the poster above who said if you want to get rid of athletic scholarships you need to get rid of many other scholarships as well.

  3. Gotta agree with Keith7 - this is not high school.

and the male/female character is not particularly relevant to the tradition of a homecoming court

I agree with your first comment. If it disappeared I wouldn't notice because I don't notice it now.

However, your second comment made me laugh. Male/female character IS very relevant to the tradition of homecoming court. The tradition is a King and a Queen ... male and female. That's the tradition.

  4. There's a lot of this that is directly outside anyone's control but there's a lot that can be done. I love the idea of a plaque to honor Abner Haynes' accomplishments. Perhaps we need to be like other schools and have our conference championships posted boldly inside the stadium (all of them, not just the four from last decade). UNT football has a proud history of success and that should be promoted. This has to come start with the administration.

I've always felt that UNT fans seem to always be negative about sports and ignore all the great things that have happened. A lot of that comes from ignorance. Promoting the history of our athletic teams is a big part of changing the culture.

  5. Our awesome AD again.

During the selling of the club level seats, we asked numerous times how the seating would be done. I have been a MGC member for a long time and have plenty of points to go around, but I wanted to bring on some new people who want to sit with us. They said it isn't a problem, just pick a "key" person and they will situate people around that "key" if you have multple families that want to bundle together.

Now that the AD has my family and friend's money, they change direction and seating is solely based on seniority and the new people either have to sit by themselves (money is spent), force me to pick in a lower teired day and maybe not even be able to select to get my three seperate new families to sit together, or ... just accept that the AD's word is about worthless and stop donating in the future.

I don't think anyone here can help you with this. I'd give Rick a call and find out from him what the exact situation is.
