In the fall of 2015, the North Texas coaching position was vacant, again, and the preference of the athletic director to fill the job was then-TCU co-offensive coordinator Doug Meacham. The UNT President wanted Seth Littrell of North Carolina.

  3. Those who utilized the Mean Green Game Day shuttle to attend UNT’s first football game of the season reported late, overcrowded shuttles. The Mean Green Game Day shuttle, which has been in use for five years, takes passengers from downtown Denton to the pedestrian bridge across from Apogee Stadium. However, on game day there were few shuttle buses running and the ones available were completely full, said Amy Fair, a 32-year-old who works in marketing and used the Mean Green Game Day shuttle to attend the UNT vs. SMU games in 2016 and this year. “We had a really good experience with the shuttle in the past and were expecting the same this time around,” Fair said. But Fair said her shuttle experience this year was the complete opposite. Fair said she waited at the Mellow Mushroom stop, the same as she did two years ago. However, this year she waited for an hour and 20 minutes at the stop, which had a sign posted reading ‘first stop.’ “But come to find out, every stop had a sign on it that said, ‘first stop,’ so that was a little confusing,” Fair said. “During that hour and 20 minutes that we were waiting, only two shuttles came by our stop, neither one of them stopped because both of them were full. So even in that amount of time we were waiting, we only saw two of the shuttles.” Fair said by 6:10 p.m. she, her husband and a couple friends had debated different options to try and get to the game from getting an Uber, waiting it out or trying to drive and find parking. But eventually they decided to go to the East Side Denton Bar to watch the game. “We didn’t even make it to the game,” Fair said. “We had to watch it on TV.” View Full Article

  6. DENVER, Col. - Arkansas built a big lead and appeared to be on their way to a second win in as many games. But then a series of events led to Colorado State rallying to take a 34-27 victory on Saturday night. Some series of events led to Arkansas losing after holding a 27-9 lead with 7:28 remaining in the third quarter. The Hogs appeared to be ready to put the game away when Deon Stewart returned a punt 45 yards to the Colorado State 28. However, on first down Cole Kelley threw to Jordan Jones who was unable to come down with a foot in bounds. After a review, the call on the field stood and the Hogs had a second-and-10. Kelley then rushed for three yards. A false start on true freshman Noah Gatlin moved the ball back to the Colorado State 30. On third-and-12, Kelley threw to Chase Harrell who couldn't come down with the pass. Connor Limpert then attempted a 47-yard field goal that was no good. The Rams immediately went on a seven-play, 70-yard drive that ended with K.J. Carta-Samuels passing four yards to Preston Williams for a touchdown. Carta-Samuels added the two-point conversion with a pass to Cameron Butler. That pulled the Rams to within 27-17 with 2:46 remaining in the third quarter. read more: https://www.nwahomepage.com/sports/pig-trail-nation/the-morning-after-this-arkansas-loss-will-sting-for-awhile/1429283746

  8. The 2018 football season marks the beginning of the last year with players from former-head coach Dan McCarney’s recruiting. Though he does not search these players out, current North Texas head football coach Seth Littrell places a lot of value in his senior group this year. “The success of any team is going to come down to how well that leadership does throughout the year of overcoming adversity and sticking together,” Littrell said. “When coaches don’t have to step in, that’s when teams really start taking off and holding each other accountable, and I think you’re going to have much more success when players are buying into our core values and start to lead themselves into being successful.” The Mean Green have a lot of talent heading into this season, but with a roster comprised mostly of underclassmen, experience is needed as well. Eleven players on this team carry experience dating back to the 2015 season, and while a lot of fans would like to forget that 1-11 season, these players are continuing to use it as fuel. After losing to Portland State 66-7 during the Mean Green’s homecoming weekend in 2015, head coach Dan McCarney was immediately fired. This caused a lot of players to question which direction this team was headed. View Full Article

  11. Incarnate Word can hang their hats on the fact they put up 30 points against an FBS team however, it’s still going be tough for the Cardinals to do much better than their 1-10 record last season if their defense can’t find ways to stop opposing offenses. North Texas is solid, experienced team with great offensive weapons and is the type of team I feel that no one is really going to want to play as they certainly have the potential to beat almost anyone if their defense is improved. North Texas was one of my favorite plays last week and as I imagine North Texas will be favored by about 30-35 points, my initial thoughts are to take Mean Green and also put a play on the over if that number isn’t too high.
