  1. When I came here 2-8, 2-9 was the norm and we were playing the same teams, basically.

And guess what, that was totally unacceptable then and totally unacceptable now. Continuing that B.S. could have killed the program. I suggest we are further behind now than we were then in terms of on field performance.

I have been concerned about recruiting since that great class we had in 2000. Status Quo won't do. We MUST improve and do better. That is how it works in the competitively charged world of college athletics.

Just because we "improved" the last few years does not mean we are even close to being "healthy".

Just curious, what are your expectations of our football program?

  2. Uh, we just lost 56-3. Is that how far our expectations have fallen?

Yes, we had some decent drives. We still lost 56-3.

Are we now relegated to seeing positives on specific drives and individual performance when we don't score a touchdown? I guess we are because I did.

Losing 56-3 is a bad, bad loss. But hey, if you see nothing negative in this-good for you. I saw some positives but a whole lot more negatives like not having a chance when we stepped onto the field. This just isn't the LSU's of the world but the La. Tech's and Tulsa's.

We are bad, bad, bad. We are Ball State/Buffalo/Idaho/NMSU bad.

This program needs a serious shot in the arm.

  3. I saw some positives. Some, not many.

    Positives:

Meager looked much better. I hope he was throwing all those balls out of bounds on purpose.

JT looked better, almost back to his old self.

There were times during the game I was saying to myself "here we go again to the N.O. Bowl". God I hope not this year. The OOC loses have just been too non-competitive.

    Negatives:

I watched this game with my father and he said on more than one ocasion that "Dickey is a F*$%*&^ idiot". This is a guy that doesn't follow NT football.

    Defense was just plain bad.

    OL

How bad is it when we are looking for positives (and seeing them) in another complete blowout of a game?

This year is the worst we have been since our return to 1-A. I'll give DD a flyer on not winning the SBC this year but I don't give him a flyer on putting this program in this bad of shape.

What in the hell has happened?

  4. My question is this: Is our offense this year, compared to years past, getting more or less offensive drives per game? What is the total number of drives our offense has this year, compared to last year?

Is three and out considered a "drive"? I see the lack of sustaining-back-breaking-demoralizing-time comsuming drives we have had in the past. Now that was cool! You would just see the opponents wilting after 2 or 3 of those. Then it became a PC or JT track meet.

DD has made mention a few times in his press conferences about the lack of first downs.

If I had to guess we would have a higher number of "drives" this year. Not a good thing with the offense we run.

    Quality, not quantity.

  5. We have to agree that we do not know what happened behind the closed doors of some of the conferences that selected teams with "up-start" programs or those that have won 1 FB game a year for years to get into better conferences than what we are in. We can only imagine & I am not $tarting any rumor$.

    I think I have a pretty good idea but I don't agree with you. It was the fan$ $upport. Fan$ in the $tand$ speak$ volume$ to conference$. $o, in $ummation, fan$ $upport i$ what drive$ the bu$. UTEP had it, we didn't. I was excited about our CU$A chances until UTEP came into the picture, then I knew our $hip was $unk. I don't think it wa$ anything more than ju$t that.

And another thing-The ant$ in France $tay mainly on the plant$.

  6. Good post Stebo and I agree with the one year "get out of jail free card." I have a close friend who joined the Mean Green Club this year and after the Troy game was thinking that by not showing up to anymore games and recinding his Mean Green Club membership would be "sending a clear message." I disagreed with him and pointed out that few fans in the stands supporting a team with a poor record was not nearly as powerful as a ton of fans in the stands supporting that same team with a poor record. He agreed.

Lots of support (by showing up) puts positive pressure on the program to succeed. Don't get me wrong-I think there is a multitude of problems right now. I appreciate the hard work the coaches and players put in but this just is not cutting it. What is the real problem? I don't know for sure but I have a pretty good idea. I know for sure that what really matters are the fans. A packed Fouts Field will get us to where we all want to be.

We would be in CUSA right now with better attendance, not a better team. Kinda the chicken and the egg thing. The coaches may slip, the AD may slip, the BOR might slip but we as fans cannot.

We must show up to the games. More fans=more better things for good ole UNT.

If you want the program to succeed then show up. If you don't like what is going on then complain appropriately-but still show up.

So far this year the fans are the only one's pulling their weight around here. I was expecting terrible attendance at the Troy game but the UNT faithful got it done. OK, I give the AD some slack because of what he is up against.

Coaches, BOR, Presidents, AD's come and go. Some players come and go and some come back as fans. Some players parents come and go and some keep coming back as fans. I just comes down to this-the fans matter most. You can always go out and get the other components but it is us-the fans-who ultimately matter. Adler is spot on about the players and coaches acknowledging the fans. It says so much about what is broke around here.

  7. We win all the games against less than D1 squads.

We win 2 games we shouldn't against superior competition on their court-Hope for gain and then...

We lose 4 games we shouldn't against crappy directional schools and mediocre to bad Sun Belt teams-back to reality and then...

    We start talking football again.

    14-14 is my guess.

It sucks to be a mediocre Sun Belt team. Good news is things can change in a hurry in basketball. Maybe, just maybe this is our year.

I have seen people show up in droves at the Super Pit to watch competitive Mean Green teams. That was a long, long time ago.

  8. Motivation may be an issue. I can see it now in the locker room before game time:

Player 1: Hey don't bogart that blunt.

Player 2: Weren't we supposed to be somewhere? What's all that cheering outside?

Player 1: Oh man, I think we were supposed to kick off or something.

    (chuckles and laughter)

No that my freind was funny.

  9. We are that bad. Eight freaking turnovers we get and we win by 3-only because FIU missed a FG late in the 4th.

    This is so stinkingly bad.

I am sitting here incredulous at our ineptness.

How can this be? After four conference championships? After the new, improved facilities?

    The penalties, the ineffective offense?

Our luck DD will win the SBC again (unimpressively I might add) and we are stuck with him another decade. Can't he just go away?

This just palin sucks. Yes, I said that after a win.

  10. We are playing a 4th year team, with HORRIBLE facilites, with 7 turnovers and we are up 3 midway in the fourth. Check that, Monroe int for turnover #8. Another penalty for the Mean Green on the return. Good God this is horrible. Has any team EVER lost when getting 8 turnovers?

  11. Ya know Harry, I will be at every home game if we got beat by a hundred. I am worried about the health of the program when we are consistently getting beaten BADLY by OOC foes and Joe Blow fan determines North Texas Football is bad boring football.

Love him or hate him, DD isn't doing us any favors in attendance. So many people are put off by what they are seeing on the field. They expect to see exciting college football and are not getting it.

I have talked to many casual fans in the parking lot after the games and they are TOTALLY put off by what they saw. Most won't be back. It is that bad.

The truth hurts sometimes. Thank goodness for the most kickass tailgate in the country!

  12. It should be a better game considering Troy will be our weakest opponent yet. If it's not, if we have another subpar yardage game and 7 points in a loss, are we to be dissapointed? Will it then, be appropiriate to start asking questions about our offense?

Dissapointed? Yes. Appropriate to start asking questions about our offense? No, never. Well, if you have played college ball maybe. But unless you have have played college ball you are not allowed to have an opinion about football-basically relegating you to cheerleader status.

Since I have never been the Presidient of the United States, I will relinquish my right to vote. I am a true Mean Green fan.

So, give more money and shut up to be a true Mean Green fan.

    Cruel gomeangreen.com jedi mind trick coming up;

You only THINK the last two games were horrific blowout loses setting the program back a decade. If you had any REAL football knowledge (which won't be discussed here but attempted) you would know better.

  13. Because the Double D says it it is soooooo hard to do things at NT.

    Why?

    Large University

Seemingly endless number of majors to pursue an education

Committment to athletics as evidenced by multi million dollar upgrades to facilities

    Good location

    Great regional access to talent

Non restrictive admission requirements for our student athletes

I am sick of the man bashing the situation he has here.

    Is it the best? No

Is it as bad as he portrays? NO!

Just win more often than not the SBC, a few OOC games and quit bashing the school/alums/fans. That is all that I ask.

  14. A few thoughts on the game:

    On Texas State:

Good offensive line, but I don't know much about the Aggie DL.

Texas State had MUCH better athletes than I expected of them being a mid to low tier Southland team in recent history. I think that could change this year. They look good.

Their QB transfer from Houston is a stud. Very effective rolling left and throwing (kinda hard). Great poise and vision both running and passing.

Their defense as a whole looked small compared to the Aggies but they played fierce and hit hard.

    Overall: Very impressed.

    On Texas A&M:

I've watched 2 of their games this year and still cannot figure them out. I can't say I've ever been a big fan of Fran's offenses.

    Overall: Perplexed.
