In November I asked Andy Blount his opinion on who the best coach was during his time at UNT. His answer was DeLoach. He said DeLoach was an excellent X's and O's guy, the players respected him, and he got the most out of them. This was coming from a guy who played offense.

Just got off the phone with Plumm. He said he could whip Quonner's ass.
Not really.

Anthony Winchester was a great ballplayer. What happened?
-
Yep, it was cold. It was cold AND rainy. Those WKU players looked real cold with no jackets, bet they didn't expect that coming to Texas. God they were dicks.

Very well put Rick.

I didn't know until last night that the guard calls the blocking assignments at the line in Dodge's offense, not the center. Last night my adopted player Chad Rose was making the calls. He mentioned how classy the Navy players were and said there was absolutely no trash talking in the game whatsoever. I'm very proud of our program this morning for the great time it gave me and my family yesterday.
We lost but I was thoroughly entertained. I can only imagine what this is going to be like during an "up" year.

UNT 69
MUTS 0
That bold prediction made after 6 Green Kool-Aid Bongs.

I need 3 if anyone has any spares. My girls are at the age where they are enjoying the whole gameday experience.

What I have noticed is that I haven't much lately. I always have an interest in the local teams. I always wish the froggies the best and the ponies the worst. The MWC is clearly a better conference, but I wonder as well if is the best fit for them. CUSA sure has slipped further than I thought it could but CUSA with TCU is a different story.
Here are some questions I have:
Has it helped their recruiting?
Is attendance up?
Is the increased cost worth what they are getting?
I just don't hear the buzz around them like I used to. I don't see them on TV like I used to. Maybe that crazy MWC TV package has something to do with it. This college football fan just doesn't notice as much.

I get this feeling because Louisiana is less than good.
We will win this pillow fight. You can put that in three inch headlines if you want.

I'm not sure Mendoza is the problem. We have exactly 2 better than average Sun Belt players on defense. We have been bad on defense for a number of years now-really bad.
Are we worse on D than we were last year? I doubt it. Yes, this defense is returning 9 starters but my hope was to have some underclassmen step up and show they had superior talent. That just didn't happen. I can only judge this defense when we have played 2 or 3 more conference games. I may change my tune after that.
I wish there was some tricked up defense we would employ like our offense but to my knowledge there is none.
The last time I remember seeing the defense make a play or generally play well was against FIU last year. FIU is awful.
I am going to judge Mendoza right now on:
1) Players playing to the best of their ability.
2) Whether the players quit on him.
3) If the players like playing for him and believe in him.
4) Some improvement in conference play vs. how we fared last year.
In February I will judge him on his contribution in recruiting. I suspect he will be highly motivated.

I noticed we looked undersized compared to these teams we've played, even FAU. I also noticed watching USF and Colorado on TV how much speed their defenses have, very athletic and very fast guys moving to the ball on D; we need more size and speed.
I think you are on to something. We just need bigger, stronger, and faster athletes. We need to let Todge and his staff aware of this immediately! Damn that Dickey, he was recruiting those smallish slow guys.

Yeah, "cupcake", "lesser opponent", and "worst Division I team to ever to play here". Brutal. And yes, I know Division IA is now the FBS.
-
Wrong.

We got Patrick Cobbs because we offered earlier (earlier-not early) than Oklahoma State. Okie State was dragging their feet, not making a solid offer until very late in the process. Patrick decided to stick with the Mean Green out of loyalty.

I love how this number is getting bigger every day.
We were allotted 4,000 tickets for our section. I will generously estimate another 500 scattered throughout the stadium. Still, it was a very respectable showing on our part.
Not everyone goes through our athletic department to buy tickets. 6-7K seems about right to me.
As far as "no one else is going to travel to SMU that well" bunk that is just not the case. SMU does a good job of scheduling regional opponents that travel as good if not better than UNT to Ford-TCU, Baylor, Tech, and Okie State come to mind. Their attendance drops when they start conference play. All of that beng said, UNT brings alot more to the tabe than many of the OOC teams they have scheduled in the past.

I was at the game with my girlfriend and many of her friends whom she went to Tech with. It was hard to tell at first who the fans were supporting because they both have red as a color. At first glance I thought it was a 50/50 split-nice showing of Tech fans I thought. During the 3rd quarter the Tech fans started their Raider-Power cheer and it was obvious that most of the red shirts that I thought were SMU fans were Tech fans. The stadium was 75-80% Tech fans. This is not a slam of SMU nor is this an exageration to stir up the ponies (ala Baylor fans at Fouts).
You get Tech at home and only muster 6,000 fans? The sad part is that SMU has got a pretty decent team. We have our work cut out for us Saturday for sure.

More things I read over on the Utag board:
No audibles
No halftime adjustments
4th and 7 and run it up the middle (conversion failed)
Boring
Starting to question timeouts/clock management

Brad Kassell...one bad mofo.

OK, now I'll bite.
4 wins will be expected.
5 wins will be ok.
6 wins will prove that Todge IS Football Jesus.
7 wins will be orgasmic.

I saw this young man play football when he was in 4th grade back in Arlington as he was a classmate of my step-daughter. He was by far the best football player on the field. The Hill Highlanders won the city championship a few times with him on the squad. Good God I'm getting old.
Best of luck Derek.
I hereby have dibs on Derek as my adopted Mean Green player when he suits up for the Mean Green. Chad Rose is the man until his eligibilty runs out.

Everyone might want to tap the brakes a little on Vizza. I can't remember the last time a true freshman had any success transitioning from HS to college. I am not declaring him a bust; I just don't think the he will be ready for the 2007 campaign.
There was this cat named Scott Hall.
