So, I love everyone that talks about "give them time to learn the playbook" whether it is an offensive or defensive player, but this is a prime example of not having a chance to learn. How do keep a player long enough to learn the playbook?
I always thought that was the biggest line of B.S. along with "give him time to recruit his players", or "give him time to recruit the kind of players for his system".

Massively ineffective coaching jobs don't just suddenly fix themselves. I don't get this loyalty thing some coaches have. They don't have loyalty to the school. Why have loyalty to a guy that is going to cost you your job? Another year of this with similar results and you're labeled a dumbass. Teams you recruit against use it against you and predictably recruiting drops off. Then you become an alcoholic and a bad father.

1) I enjoy the Pony fans on this site. I hope they stay around.
2) It is 100% true that we will pick up a few players in the coming years that would have otherwise gone to SMU. That's just how it works. Conference affiliation matters. So does money.
3) If we were enjoying the success SMU is having the last couple of years, we outdraw them and it's not even close. They know it and we know it. If we are 10-2 in the AAC and they are 5-7 in the ACC we double or triple their attendance. If the Ponies are 10-2 in the ACC we still outdraw them. If you are a SMU fan and want to argue this...just don't. You know I'm right.
4) Both teams have fickle fans. Both fan bases expect a lot and have a multitude of entertainment options. That's just how it is in the big city. Exhibit A was how many fans failed to show for the game in Dallas this year. They just aren't going to spend time and money to watch that clown show of a defense we suffered through.
5) Here we are, the fans that actually show up left to duke it out.

I wouldn’t want to ever scoop to that level of disgusting and pathetic.
I would never want a player who has to stoop to that level of pathetic on my team. Don’t pay players! Fix the system!
I would.

I think Sohn's quote is actually brutally honest. He basically said UTSA pulled the scholarship offer for next fall because they wanted someone who could contribute and not redshirt. Like JD mentioned, UTSA is trying to win BIG next year and oline isn't a big strength so they need as many bodies as possible. Whereas, our oline is already set and we're not in "win now" mode so we're fine with him probably redshirting.
Gonna have to disagree there. We are in a win next year mode ourselves. The days of “let him get his recruits in here” are long gone.

Shanbour should look to move on. He's been here for like a decade. I would want to go experience something new and learn from a new staff.
New staff? It would be his third. Lol

Well no one has rushed to give Art a second chance. However I think his presence would probably be more acceptable if he worked for his son as OC or QB coach. Just a "guess and by golly."

I'm taking the under. I think we can run on them therefore reducing possessions and shortening the game. We'll get our share of points, but I don't think they will.

Some of you aren’t paying close enough attention. The commitment has been there for the past two decades. This doesn’t happen overnight. Our HFC is one of the highest paid in G5. Our athletic director is top 25 compensated in the entire country. We are top dog in revenue in CUSA. We are easily top 10 in facilities at the G5 level. Just stop with the self deprecating bullshit. You say it and people believe it even though it’s far from the truth. We have so much to be thankful for as fans yet we perpetuate the negative perception. Why?
Yes I know the fan base has given up on the HFC. This will sort out because of an absolute commitment from the regents and the real power of high dollar donors.

Why is everyone in denial about what they really want? Bring back Darrell Dickey and we will be whole as a program again.
You know you MFers want him.

Wrong. Fans need hope. I think Nebraska fans are happy, even with the OU beatdown today, just knowing there will be a change coming.
That’s a good point 80. I just don’t know if it’s worth the extra dollars. We need money more than fan hope but it can’t become hopeless and lose fans forever.

If the loses start pilling up it’s just a bad deal for everyone. Recruiting suffers, the coaches don’t care as much, etc. It’s not like you can fire the whole staff. I feel for the kids in this situation.
I don’t think you even get a head start in the search for the next coach.
As long as he acts professionally he will be here till the end of the season.

This is where the portal will kill G5s. Kids with immaturity get experience here and show their talents, but also their faults. Some P5 sees them and says, with the right coaching and getting them around better athletes, as well as just growing up, they will be much better for them in a year or two.
We are basically the P5s minor leagues now…thanks a lot, NCAA.
What did the NCAA do? They didn't cause this. As far as killing the G5...App State, Air Force, UCF, Old Dominion, Marshall, and Ga. Southern would like a word. It works both ways.

Nope. My previously purchased blue lot parking pass with mandatory MGSF donation was honored instead of being given to an charlatan.

The NCAA didn’t do this. The U.S. Supreme Court did by unanimous ruling (IMHO correctly) that education related benefit caps the NCAA imposed on student athletes are in violation is U.S. anti-trust laws.
The NCAA passes regulations voted on by member institutions.
The NCAA isn’t an evil overlord.
