  1. The earth's atmosphere is not a closed system. We have the heat of the earth's core, volcanic eruptions, gas emissions from nature and the oceans, heat generated from the sun, gamma rays, dark matter, and who knows what else slamming into the atmosphere that we have not even imagined....

So I find it quite arrogant and unscientific when these jerks claim "The debate is over. It's carbon dioxide." Especially when they now admit their science is flawed.

Nice find, you really dug deep on this one. You went far beyond reputable scientific journals and linked an article from a British daily tabloid.

The whole idea of Global Warming was met with a great deal of scepticism as are ALL new ideas and theories in the scientific community. Only after a great deal of debate and research do these ideas and theories become accepted. There are flaws of course, mistakes will have been made and continue to be made, and research will be invalidated which is great. That is how the process works. At the end of the day, every national science academy that has issued a statement on the subject agree on 1) The climate has warmed in recent decades at a pace far greater than previous known global warmings and 2)That human activities have influenced this.

No known scientific society rejects these findings.

    Again, nice find.

  2. I was able to get the Plane Tickets, a hotel in NYC for that Thursday night, and a hotel in Newburgh (20 min. north of West Point) for Friday and Saturday all for around $375 a person.

I tried to look on the official site for the game date. Is it official? If so, when is it?

  3. We win going away if:

We win or tie in the turnover battle. If Riley makes better decisions and our D can come up with a few fumbles we win this game.

I say this because generally speaking, if you take out the 'Bama game, we are better than our opponents at yards per passing attempt, yards per rushing attempt, and 3rd down conversions. Yes, our offense and defense are better than most of the teams we faced this year. We quite frankly kick ass at converting 3rd downs.

We turn the ball over way to much and we don't force turnovers. But hey, that's part of the game.

And oh yeah, we need to line up under center near the goal line.

My frustration this year has been that we have been so much superior athlete wise than many of the teams we lost to this year. See ULL, FAU, FIU. We were on par with Ohio and the MUTS. While Bama, Troy, and ULM were just better.

  4. I find it funny that when Darrell Dickey pointed out the obvious about the facilities, he was called negative. But, when Villareal and Dodge say the same thing, they are said to be helping.

Also, the intensity thing is something that was discussed on the VIP board before last week's game. KingDL started it there as well. It's a good discussion in light of the fact that many of us over there considered the ULM game to very winnable considering the circumstances of both teams in the weeks leading up to the game (UNT's seemingly improving offense versus an ULM team on a losing streak, with two quarterbacks battling injuries, and playing on the road).

Anyway, the gist of the thread ended up being that the ULM game was yet another chance for Todd Dodge to prove he could get this team prepared for a game with some meaning. Unfortunately, as with every other opportunity of the way to 5-28, the team came out flat. The only difference between ULM and the other games is that this time, we didn't at least rally at some point.

It's no secret that I'm not on board with the Todd Dodge experiment. But, again, I predicted they'd be 2-7 at this point, and that's what they are. Alot of what many of you think is negativity from me is simply reality. I never saw anything on the roster or in the lead up to the season that would lead me to believe that this team could win more than three game. I pegged them at 3-9.

I'm as eager and desparate as any of the rest of you for us to succeed again in the area of football. The difference remains that I can't just be told words and believe them. At some point, it has to show up on the field - and show up consistently. A win over ULM - or at least a fight - would have been signs of that.

Before the season, I predicted the that ULM would beat us 28-20. I really expected a dogfight. As I posted on the VIP board last week, there is no way that ULM has better athletes than we across the board. No way. It's simply not possible. So, I surmised that the X factor would be coaching - which coach would have his troops up for the battle.

More and more, though, I have to rethink it. ULM brought in a new defensive coordinator and began the season replacing its starting QB. Well, for whatever reason, their defense has responded to his switch to the 3-3-5. And, it's not like the guy came from a big league school. Dude was defensive coordinator for a year at New Mexico.

Before his stint at UNM, he was at UTEP - a school not known for stellar defenses. But, damn if he doesn't have have that defense giving up less than 24 a game in the Belt, and less than 28 a game overall! In his first season as DC.

You guys are always whining about "we don't have the money for this type of coach, we don't have the money for that type of coach." This guy ULM hired was a refugee from UTEP and UNM and he held us to 6 points - with players he didn't recruit and running a new, very unorthodox defense.

The excuses for Dodge's failure here have always been thin to me, but they're getting thinner. I'm also not defending Deloach anymore either. These guys aren't getting it done. And, you don't have to hire million dollar a year coaches to right the ship. It's proved over and over again in every other type of school you can name - public, private, big enrollment, small enrollment...it doesn't matter. This coaching staff isn't meshing with the players or itself in any consistent way.

My expectations were not that high for this season - not as high as many of you. But, I've got to tell you, if we lose to Army, lose all the remaining games and finish 2-10 and Dodge stays...we're in a heap of trouble. Too much is going right for too many other schools in state.

Baylor just notched their fourth win led by the their third string QB. TCU is likely to be a BCS team. SMU is likely to go to a bowl game. Houston will be in a bowl game. Texas Tech. Probably Texas A&M. Really of the Texas schools not named "Longhorns" only Rice and UTEP are going to be sitting at home with us without some sort of buzz to sell recruits in December and January.

I don't see how we are helped if we go 2-10 and retain this coaching staff. I can see retaining Shelton Gandy, Spencer Leftwich, and maybe Chuck Petersen - if a new coach puts him back on the offensive side of the ball. But, guys, if Army comes in here and rolls us under their new head coach with their new offense, what would that really be saying about this program under Todd Dodge in year three?

Um, they dominated us. Their athletes were better than ours period. Should they be? No. Is that a coaching issue? Yes. I believe 90% of college coaching is recruiting.

  5. I wish this kid the best of luck. I had a torn labrum and it just slowly gets worse. It will affect his ability to play well and get stronger in the weight room. I find it hard to beleive this kid doesn't get surgury now because this injuy takes almost a year to rehab. If this kid waits he will play in pain, he will not be as effective, he will not get stronger, and he will have a year of eligibility burned in an increasingly diminished capacity. It will be interesting to me how this plays out. Frank Solich should know all of this of course.

  6. Riley looked the very impressive. He forced a couple of throws that were so forced that I thought he may have been told by TD that he if he got the opportunity, heave a couple up to see if there was a receiver with Johnny Quinn type skills that would be able to bring it down. Some may say they were poor decisions and they may have been, but Riley had such a comfortable presence I doubt it. The most impressive thing about Riley was his running ability. Riley is by far the best quarterback we have had around here since I have been following the program ('83).

The jury is still out for me on the DL. Sure they are better, but are they good? We will just have to see when they line up against Ball State.

  7. I took a quick look at the scores each game last year. Talk about a reality check, good lord we were bad.

Last year I predicted a 1 win season with the distinct possiblity of going o-fer.

My prediction this year is a 2 win season. I see 3 games that we will be competitive in which are ULM, WKU, and Army. All of these are home games so I give us 2 of 3.

  8. I know we were blessed with GREAT weather for the game Saturday, but wasn't attendance much greater than you expected? Most are upset with the level of play, the coach, special teams coaches, and the Atheletic Department in general. Why do you think people as showing up in greater numbers than in the Dickey glory years?

I think it is because Dodge ball is still fun to watch-even in blow out loses. This offense at least moves the ball even if we are having trouble getting in the end zone. If I had to choose watching a 3-9 DD team or a 0-12 Dodge team I would choose the Dodge team because it's just more fun. Can you imagine what the attendance would be if this team were in the hunt for a conference championship?

Hiring a coach that comes with an exciting offense was the right thing to do. If we improve the athleticism on D to upper middle pack SBC teams, we would be in contention for a conference title again and attendance would be the best in the SBC.

Before anyone goes crazy on me here:

I know the attendance numbers were inflated a bit.

    I do want to win.

    I am not slamming DD.

I know Dodge has made some blunders.

I realize losing to a conference foe by 29 is really bad.

  9. There is a serious dearth of talent on this team. It has been like this for 4 years. Remember the Vic Trilli days when the talent left because of his coaching? That kind of dearth of talent.

I had the opportunity to choose between golf at White Bluff or watch the UNT/FIU game next weekend, I chose golf. This just isn't any fun for me when my team can't compete. I've got better things to do. Please don't get me wrong, I would like to see a rebuilding process. This is just too bad to spend my time watching every home game.

So count me in as one of the guys that says it's talent.

That all being said, Adler has it figured out. We need to address "The Problem."

  10. We are in great shape at QB, RB, and WR. We are in decent shape at P, K, LB, and DB's. The jury is still out on the OL-they won't be great but they might not be that bad either. Our DL needs some serious help. Like Cerebus said, lineman, lineman, lineman, lineman! GreenFlag sez D-lineman, D-lineman, D-lineman, D-lineman! If I had to choose a position where I could have a super stud to build a program around it would be DT, not QB. A good defensive line can compensate so well for other weaknesses. Brandon Kennedy taught me that. They magically make everyone better on defense.

This is a 2-3 win team if expectations aren't greatly exceeded on the defensive line. Those 2-3 wins will be when the offense is clicking so well (against below average D-lines) that other teams have to radically adjust game plans to be crazy agressive. We will have those games and it will be fun to watch. If expectations are greatly exceeded on DL, we may win 4-5 games. If we lose some key players on the D-line, we could go winless. There, I said it-winless. O-fer. Todd Dodge inherited a f'ing awful football team that was terribly thin at key positions. I hope to see redshirt and true freshmen starting soon on the DL.

This year will show even more improvement on offense. This year will also be exciting. We will also see some serious blowout loses.

Gary DeLoach is a huge upgrade but the cupboard is still almost bare. The Todd Dodge era at North Texas will be determined on how many stud lineman he can get in here on both sides of the ball.

I'm not trying to be negative folks, it's just the way I see it.
