If littrell fails to play Roberts or Adaway the way he should be doing then he doesnt have to worry about them staying anyhow. I see Ruder as a guy who wants to stay and play in a system that could get him NFL looks. UNT is a friendly offense that can get him to point A to point B. He could be that next Trey Lance so to speak. I have high expectations for this team, too much talent to not win the division this year!

Are you the one who made the following statement inferring Aune is as good if not better than Fine? As a reminder, Mason Fine's 1st year #s were worse than Aune's (and Fine played in more games). Could it be possible that Aune improves in year 2 to at or near Fine's #s?

He was the Scout team QB for UNC the last 2 seasons, and was even practicing with the team up till his transfer was announced. UNC had no plans of cutting him lose or letting him go, he just wanted a shot to start at a University that could give him better opportunities than what he had there. UNTs offense is perfect for a QB to showcase his skills. Aune hasnt proven anything except he cant score in the first half of games. He is a great backup, and we are lucky to have him, but he isnt what we need to hang our hat on and call it a crowning achievement. You find a guy till he is as good if not better than Mason Fine, Aune isnt that guy. Is Ruder? I dont know, but I guarantee you he has a higher ceiling than Aune, considering where he transferred from, and the fact they didnt expect him to leave. UNC has nothing but positive things to say about Ruder.

The people here who think Aune is a dual threat didnt just miss the boat, they missed the ocean. Bean was suppose to be a Dual Threat, but he couldn't throw. Ruder is a game changer especially in RPO situations. You can design a run with him and have confidence it wont be a 5 yard loss. I truly am excited about this years talent. I have a good feeling the defense will finally turn it around. We just have to score early and keep the foot on the pedal and not let up.

Could it be you are wrong? How in the world can anyone truly believe Aune is as good or better than Mason Fine? Ive heard it all folks. Aune is better than Mason Fine and Torrey is better than Jeff Wilson Jr. Color me a skeptic!

I cant argue against what you are saying. I applaud you for the post! Thank you for staying on topic here. 1) I made this point to show there was more interest in Ruder than Aune coming out of HS, and Ruder was getting as many looks as Justin Fields, which is true. 2) Aune isnt a horrible player, but we can do better. Extrapolating his numbers doesnt really hold water for me. He was never brought in to be the long term guy with Jason Bean on the roster. I honestly dont even think you allow Aune to play unless Ruder falls on his face. Aune is no Mason Fine.

At the end of the day I do hope the best player plays. Thats why Adaway should play over Torrey and Roberts should play over Pirtle, I have kind of driven that point home on several of my posts. I am sorry there are snowflakes on this forum who cant handle discussion here. Im not the one going around accusing people of never attending UNT like others do here. "Color me a Skeptic!" PFFT! And yet I am downvoted several times for pointing out the simple fact Adaway should be eating almost all of Torreys reps! Some people either feel threatened here by new ideas, or they are cool with the status quo. If Aune isnt as good as Mason Fine, he shouldnt be starting. Mason is now the gold standard here. You play guys till you find that guy. Aune isnt that guy, I am sorry. Most of our scores did come in the 2nd half of play, its just a fact. Its like our offense in most of our games didnt even show up the first half. You can blame it on a lot of things, lack of blocking, lack of receiving outside of Darden, too much Darden. You can slice it up anyway you want. The fact of the matter is until Ruder shows he isnt the answer, he should start, for the simple fact we know what Aune can and cant do. If Ruder struggles yank him, but doing the status quo is not going to win us six games. Playing Adaway instead of Torey and Roberts instead of Pirtle makes a world of difference.

What does my personality have to do with the fact Torrey isnt as good as Adaway? Its just an angry homer who cant come to grips with reality that the best players on the team he cheers for arent getting the desired reps they need.

I really want to know the idiot who truly believes Aune is a better Option than Ruder, and that Torrey is a better short yardage back than Adaway and that Pirtle is better than Jake Roberts! Ruder needs to be the starter, if he blows it stick in Aune, because at that point there is nothing else to lose. Being ok with status quo is not ok here! Mason Fine is the expectations we need to have here.

Nah I am not arguing with myself on that post, its obvious by the down votes of me saying Adaway is better than Torey, that there are plenty of homers here, who cant see real talent when it hits the field. I guess some arent tired of those half yard carries by Torrey on 4th down that lead to turnover on downs. No Evidence? Name one QB outside of possibly Spencer Rattler who could beat out Sam Howell as a starting QB? You are such a homer man! I get it that you like the status quo with Aune, but for the sakes of the us fans and the team, you need to pray Ruder is as good as people say he is. Aune isnt the answer now or ever. Mason Fine is the expectation that is now set at UNT. Not Mcnulty.

Considering Ruder is getting first team reps right now instead of Aune, I am confident to say the Austin Aune days could and should be over. I wouldnt go down on a sinking ship with a QB who got a majority of his points in second half play when the game was out of hand and scoring really didnt matter. I get people are homers here and dont like change, but change is needed to win. Torrey should not be getting more carries than Adaway, Pirtle should not be getting more reps than Roberts, and Aune should not be starting over Ruder. If any of these things happen, then Litrell might as well fire himself for making bad decisions.

Thank you! I have noticed a trend on this forum! A majority of posters here defend the status quo, and are more homers than actual fans of the team. For Example! 1) Honestly believing or convincing themselves that a 5'7 scat back is better than Adaway who can not only take it to the house on every carry, but can truck people while doing it if need be. Torey is down after initial contact. I get he averages 5.8 yards, but he has a hell of a lot of 1 yard carries and if they arent 1 yard carries, they are 15 to 20 yard carries. His YPC is not the whole story. I cant count on two hands how many times we had a turnover on downs because Torey couldnt gain a yard when we needed it. Adaway will give you at least 3 hard fought yards a carry. He is the kind of back that can make third downs manageable. 2) Aune never was the answer, he played because Bean was awful. Bean was the answer till he screwed it all up. If Aune is the best we can do we are in serious trouble as a team. People who honestly are cheering for Aune over Ruder succeeding have lost their ever loving mind. 3) Defending why Pirtle should start over guys like Jake Roberts and Asher Alberding. I get the love for Pirtle but Jake Roberts ceiling is clearly higher than all three of these kids, and deserves the reps at TE. 4) Our defense is bad! But who really cares because we only score points in the 2nd half of play when we are getting blown out of games anyhow. I mean is it because Aune is any good, or is it because teams have taken their foot off the gas pedals on us? I think Aunes stats were severely inflated. 5) People need to realize for two straight years Ruder did lose his job to Howell, and he didnt want to be a backup, he wanted to play. What better way then to showcase your skills at a college who runs a similar offense to Oklahama where Mayfield, Murray and Rattler are playing? Id come to UNT over a school like Kansas State, Kansas or Arkansas. Think of all the offensive guys we had recently that are now playing on Sundays? You can say many things about Litrell, but finding and putting skilled position receivers on offense isnt one of his problems.

I am a 2012 Alumni of UNT! I know as much if not more about UNT football than you do. Especially the Litrell era, considering I have attended every single game at Apogee since his hiring. All I see is a bunch of dudes arguing to keep the status quo instead of wishing this team take the best step toward winning. Aune is not the answer, and Torrey isnt the best RB on the team, its painful truths only homers cant come to grips with. Its no different than defending why Pirtle should be starting over Asher and Jake. There is a huge difference between being a fan and a homer.

Adaway and Johnson are better short yardage backs than Torrey, the only problem is if you play Torrey on every down and only put Johnson and Adaway in the game on short yardage, defenses know what we are doing. I dont know why we dont move Torrey to the slot and call it a day, he is a 5'7 undersized scat back.

Have you seen Adaway run? And Johnson is built like a Sherman tank. Torrey is an undersized scat back.

I dont understand the love for a Kid who isnt that good, and why they would rather him see action than a guy who was clearly more sought after out of HS. Ruder deserves every shot at PT, we know what Aune can and cant do. We have no clue what Ruder can do.
