  1. This this this

The game has changed. You can't compare stats from 30 years ago to today. I mean I guess you can, but its pointless. How about you compare his stats to what other QBs in the country are doing. DT is an avg-below avg QB in todays world.

Not going to comment on DT, but our offense was just 68th in the country in yards per game and 50th in scoring. We just haven't had productive offenses over the last 15 years or so that has seen a major development with spread offenses and the passing game. We finally got a decent offense and they broke some records that were very breakable.

The offense stepped up and took care of business by taking those records down. I hope our offense continues to progress and breaks those records next year, which is doable.

  2. Rivals in particular has become a lot more stingy with giving out three stars. They also demote kids to 2-stars more often now. Xavier Kelly is gone fwiw.

We have seven 3-stars this year currently committed. Tee Goree (247, rivals, and scout), Fonzale Davis (247,ESPN), Jalen Adams (ESPN) Connor Means (ESPN), Willy Ivery (scout), Brandon Garner (ESPN), and Trevor Moore (ESPN).

  3. We should win big in this game but we tend to play down to weaker teams with aTm being the exception(?).

I think it'll be kind of like that Nicholls St game. Close in the first half but our talent prevails in the second half. Would like to see a complete game on both ends of the court.
  4. North Texas is going to make this a competitive game regardless of Texas' hire. Texas is struggling to find and develop young talent. This game will be the battle of QB's. Whichever one performs better will win.

That's why I hope for a qb like Berglund or Williams. They're both accurate enough to hit the quick, short routes that moved us down the field all year, but they have strong enough arms to hit downfield passes which could be the difference against teams like UT.
  5. Louisville struggled vs the likes of Murray State & Eastern KY in Stong's first 2 seasons. Even lost to FIU in year 2. UT could have done worse , but this isn't what I would call a " home run hire"

Exactly. Then Bridgwater carried that team for the last two years.

As long as their qb situation at qb is any combination of Tyrone Swoopes and David Ash I don't see them immensely improving at least off the bat.

  6. Mistake! Strong had close to 25 players from Florida including Bridgewater. If the Miami program hadn't been in such a mess many of theses players would of been at Miami.

Timing is important. Good for him. GMG

That's what I said in the Mack Brown thread. Bridgewater and high-school teammate/Louisville receiver Eli Rogers were both Miami commits at one point. Strong is okay, but I like our chances when we roll into Austin.

  7. How in the world do we own a record-setting offense yet we rely so heavily on our D to not just win championships, but save our butts?

Because the offensive side of football has evolved immensely over the past 10-15 years, but we're just now getting the competence to reap benefits from it. Same reason DT is in the tops in almost every offensive category, yet is statistically average compared to most FBS qbs.

  8. Maybe. I was just throwing out examples of how a guy like him probably wouldn't be in the major rotation but could be thrown in for some random stuff. If he put on about 40 pounds of lean muscle mass, I could actually see him as a tight end too (can he catch? That would obviously be necessary as well). But you know more about the game than I do, so I'll assume that there's about an 80% greater chance of you being right than me...though I am the one that makes weird predictions that sometimes come true, so you never know.

Well, the thing is the wildcat is starting to become extinct anyways. I am the guy that likes seeing players tried out at different positions, so I'm with you. But I think DT would work his butt off to get a chance at just your regular old qb.
  9. More probably Zach Orr that gets that look at fullback.

NFL fullbacks are 250+. Weight is the thing going against Zach for linebacker. It's going against him even worse if he wanted to play fullback. He could be a bigger bruising running back, but it might be a little late to make that switch. And there's a lot of competition there.
  10. Yeah, I don't think we'll see Rice Jr. or Nick Montana getting a shot because of their daddies. But they were probably both a little scared of Orr. I also agree on Darnell as a long shot, depending on how things work out. Derek being used primarily for a practice squad wouldn't be overly shocking. He could be one of those guys that pops in for a couple of years and jumps on the field as a placeholder or once or twice in the wildcat.

    DT as a wildcat qb?
  11. DT has the same long windup that Tebow got knocked for having by Draft analysts. Sometimes qbs have this windup throw as a result of a pitching background, which Tebow and DT both have, as well as the Stanford qb Hogan. It would surprise me to see him get an invite, not because of his size or college production, but that release. His arm strength and size warrant a look.

  12. Physicality makes people eventually quit.

We saw that a lot this year. Ball St. comes immediately to mind.

Getting hit hurts. Getting hit hard and often hurts worse and more frequently.

It's called physically imposing your will, and the UNT defense did that often. The addition of 2 shut down CBs also had a huge impact.

Bingo. Also, having those guys coming back will allow Skladany to continue to blitz and will allow the safeties to continue to play downhill.

Losing guys hurts, but Skladany is the man and he will make the adjustments needed. Getting the hitters in there that will make the other team quit is what we need to find.
