Congratulations. Only their second loss. We had a moral victory against them though!LaTech beat Oklahoma 102-98 (OT) tonight in Norman

Sounds about right.First Karl was in love with MTSU and they left him. Then he was in love with WKU and they ditched him. Now he's in love with the Cajuns so y'all better get ready for them to join CUSA.
They are still promoting the Cajuns playing in the New Orleans Bowl on the website, twitter and facebook and you have to dig around to see any mention that AState is playing in a bowl.

Kilgore was doing fine on the short passes. He's never been a downfield passer.Live by the pass; die by the pass.
-
Exactly. He just keeps saying we're complaining about the schedule, when it's clearly the results that are the issue.Yes, convincing wins.
We scheduled NAIA Northwood (2nd year of having a team) and Wayland Baptist. Cool! Blow them out. Don't let them have a game-tying three-point shot attempt in the last minute of the game. You don't see that everywhere.

Minus the receding hairline.LeBron?

Well, he thought they were a top 20 team after he watched them play us. They're 8-6 and just lost to Loyola Marymount by 11. Either he saw a bad sample or he isn't good at judging teams. Andrew's an okay guy in my book so I'm not going to suggest the latter. Then why knock Andrew? He saw BYU play at least once...you say one does not need to see a team play at all to have informed opinions. Seems Andrew is one up!
-
As someone who has seen this year's team play multiple times, I would say not in our case. If you saw the team play last year you aren't really missing any groundbreaking stuff this year. Same problems (problem) as last year.Would it also be misleading to form opinions about teams you have not seen play?
-
Forming an opinion of a team off one game can be misleading. Especially if their opponent was us for that one game. What? I'm told by several that you don't have to see a team play to know everything possible about that team. And, now here you go suggesting that Andrew's analysis of a team might just be a tad off because he has not seen many games.
Good grief...which is it? Hard to keep the logic straight around here these days.

Similarities in their game, yes. If he could be anywhere near the rebounder Mitchell was then we'd be set. He just isn't the next Tony Mitchell, he's Jeremy Combs.Fair enough. I made the comment because with Tony came in he was compared to Rodman and we were told he would be all over the floor grabbing every single rebound. Like Cooley was saying. That's the only reason I said it.

Good to see Taylor Hooker back after giving birth. Congrats to her!

SMU does okay in Houston. They raided that Houston Lamar school that played in the state championship game against Allen last year. Other than that they're classes look like us as far as where players are from, with the exception that they like to get players from Florida. How well does SMU and TCU do in the Houston market?Just asking. I know that A&M and LSU have scheduled a game there in the next few years to gain exposure.
TCU is also basically the same as we are with getting kids from Houston. They also do what I want us to do in the future, which is recruit outside of the state without putting a lot of resources out there. They recruit the greater Atlanta area, Louisiana, and the Midwest. They target a few kids and they don't get them all, but it doesn't break their class if they don't get those out of state kids.

I knew you were being sarcastic with the at the end, I just can't stand these reaches of comparisons based on not actually seeing the guy play.Really.... Pick up in the some sarcasm.... That is what everyone said about Tony coming in. I was not serious. Good grief.
And I only compared Aniefiok because he. An play in the post (at least according to the coaching staff) but is undersized. He has a way better jumper then roger. I was only comparing the hustle in the paint to grab boards.

How many games have you seen them play? That one game against us? We made them look way better than they are. They're a team with plenty of weaknesses and we exposed none of them. You aren't convincing us that they're a great team and we shouldn't be as concerned about that blowout where they were beating us by 40 points. You're just lying to yourself Andrew.Pretty bad lose. They cans till do some damage this year but that was a game they shouldn't have lost. I still believe they are a great team.
Andrew, you are not a Benford backer. You are seen as one because you say things like "they're a top 20 team and they'll only lose to top 25-30 teams." Then after they lose to Loyola Marymount you're making excuses for them, just like you do for Benford.
And yes, please define the word "great" as it relates to sports teams. Calling this BYU team great is unfair to teams that actually deserve(d) to be called great.

Tony was 2 inches taller and could handle the ball and knock down threes. Stop with these comparisons. Kept seeing you compare Anefiok and Roger Franklin too. Those guys are nothing alike. So your saying he is the next Tony Mitchell

BYU lost to Loyola Marymount 87-76 today and is now 8-6.Utah is also a very good team. Possible top 25 team. BYU will lose games but only to top 25 or 30 teams. I would bet they make it to the round of 32 at least. (Could be wrong) but they play as a well rounded team.
-
Exactly. Also, probably shouldn't be making fun of UL-Monroe since they beat us twice last year. One difference, they demolish their creampuffs. We make ours look like mid majors.
-
How's his back-to-the-basket game? Some guys have that uncanny knack for getting to the ball by out hustling their opponent. Like a Kevin Love or Dennis Rodman, he has the mentality that every rebound is his. He's quick off his feet in going after his own missed shots and as a result, gets multiple attempts each possession.
-
Our schedule itself and the easy teams we've played are not the problem. It's that the two NAIA teams we've played both had a game tying 3-point shot attempt in the last minute against us and that our marquee home opponent this year was SFA who drummed us by almost 40 points.Anybody catch the Wisconsin or Memphis games today? Two top 20 teams in some real challenges today.
-
That's what I figured. How does he score so many points? He had 50 points in a game last year and had a high average, plus he's doing the same this year. That's a lot of points for someone who plays decent competition and isn't a three-point shooter or a 6'9"+ dominant post player. No small forward skills. Is not taller than 6-6 and will need to find some weight. Has very good low post skills and very active. Long arms make up for height around the basket. It's a shame he has no help this year.

UTSA, us, and Rice all lose their qbs so the division could be wide open. I wouldn't be so quick to predict UTSA the pre-preseason favorite for next year's west division just because they have so much coming back.Cato and Marshall are going to be tough to beat next year. I think they will be the favorite for the league championship with UTSA the Western Division front runner.
The only thing that really impressed me about that team Soza's ability to make plays with his legs and feet.
-
We honestly could not have asked for a much more beatable opponent for a bowl game. Just have to get it done and not beat ourselves.

I think cusp of national recognition is about right. We were ranked number 2 in the preseason mid-major poll coming into the season with a chance to unseat the then number 1 team in Creighton during the first game.Cusp of national recognition? Seriously? One would think a team would need to at least get to the NCAA Tournament on a consistent basis and actually win a game in the tournament before being seen as on the cusp of national recognition.
However, I do agree that the current team reminds a lot of folks of those Trillion years....I actually continued to buy season tickets and attend those years as well. Were you there at the time? Not much fun to watch, huh?
Winning a tournament game would be national recognition alone.

Here's a ballislife video with some Combs AAU footage. He comes in at about 1:35.
Combs is unrated on both rivals and ESPN still. I found this website that has him ranked as a 3-star and the 140th best overall player in the country.
It also has him listed at 6'6". I'm sort of in the belief with UNT90 that a player's listed height is usually taller than his actual height. Combs is usually listed at 6'7" so 6'6" makes sense. That's what he looks like. Never seen him play live, but from what most say he can step about 12 feet away from the basket and knock down a shot. Not sure how much small forward he'll play.
Our situation at the 4 spot next year should be fun. Voss has been playing well lately and Combs and Wesley will be a step up athletically from him. They all bring some different skill sets but they'll be able to run the floor with all the guards we have and fit well if we run 3 and 4 guard sets.

I think one of his high school coaches, maybe head coach, got hired on their staff. You know good and well that there is more to this story. NOONE passes on those offers for FAU without there being more to the story
Also, happens all over the country, but especially in Florida recruits are notorious for making spur-of-the-moment commitments that they have no intention of keeping and closing off their recruitment. Very highly doubt this kid signs with FAU in February 2015.
Just got me to thinking what it would be like to see us snag a 4-star commitment. Really like the way we are headed in recruiting and especially on the field.

BYU lost tonight to Pepperdine and is now 8-7, and just 1-5 since they played us. I promise this is the last time I bump this thread and I'll stop beating this dead horse. Just don't believe the junk we were hearing that this was a top 20 team that had us down by 40 and that they were beating us that bad because they are just that good.
Or... there is this rumor going around. That was a top 20 team that beat us in Provo. However, whenever they've been going on the road the opposing coaches have asked their arena security to confiscate any and all lunch pails before allowing BYU to enter the visiting team locker room. This has effectively incapacitated the Stormin Mormons; hence their losing streak.
