  1. You all may want to visit the SBC message board and read Shortbob's special message to all of us.
  2. Am I missing something in the DMN and DRC article today on UNT's new sorority houses? I mean come on now, we are talking 5 separate living quarters within 1 huge house with 25 beds per house here? What is all the excitement about over just 125 students? And someone please tell me what size the beds are in each of those co-eds rooms, anyho........????
  3. I thought they were going to build the new UNT sorority row adjacent to the greenbelt which is adjacent to the good neighbors in the Denia neighborhood ! ! Wouldn't that have been a real hoot?!?!
  4. Hickmon really did put it all together for the NMSU game, though, didn't he?
  5. The real shame of this is how easy it would be for Lamar Hunt to just pick up a phone and make a simple phone call to the Texas Sports Hall of Fame and take care of getting Abner Haynes in; after all, Abner Haynes is (in deed) in the Kansas City Chief Ring of Honor which is their own version of what the Cowboys have at Texas Stadium. You'd think the Texas Sports Hall of Fame officials would already be aware of & recognize the historical significance of Abner Haynes being in their elite circle; especially with the focus of Abner playing a pioneering and very strategic role in the integration of Texas college football in the mid 1950's when that was just not the popular thing to do in the South and among traditional caucasian colleges here in Texas. SMU and Hayden Fry integrated only a mere "10 years" after North Texas. Without Abner Haynes and his significant chapter in our state's college football story in the Waco-based organization one might have to consider re-naming it the Texas Sports Hall of Shame? Mr. Hunt received his first big signing as a new professional team owner (Dallas Texans aka KC Chiefs) in the end zone at UNT's Fouts Field (as the story goes) and that being the signing of one Mr. Abner Haynes; also, he found his life long partner (wife) at the University of North Texas as well. Wonder if Mr. Hunt would be interested in returning only a small favor on this matter concerning Abner Haynes? Of course, I guess the major question would be if Mr. Hunt has ever been asked to assist in getting Abner Haynes inducted in the TSHOF? He would be the first one I would call if I were a UNT official who might take this on as a personal pet project because UNT would shine equally and receive much positive statewide publicity with the induction of former Mean Greener Abner Haynes into the Texas Sports Hall of Fame. I know we all don't won't to see another Dallas Cowboy/Tex Schramm thing here where they wait too late to get him in the "Hall" when they could have done otherwise in a more timely manner with hardly any effort at all.
  6. Abner and your idea both have my vote, eagle60. What do we do next?
  7. I don't know all the details, but it seems that is what the WalMart Dist. Center folks did when they chose Sanger, Texas, to build their huge facility just down the highway from to Top of the Golden Triangle.
  8. UNTLifer, I'd bet many others on this board and beyond have had those same thoughts. You'd think every once in a blue moon even UNT would land a Karl Malone type player. Hell, if LaTech could do that, couldn't anyone? Many of us even remember seeing NBA Hall of Famer Maurice Cheeks for about 3 years when he and his, uh, (get this) "West Texas State" Buffaloes would come to the SuperPit back in the mid 1970's for some college basketball action. When will it be our turn for that level of basketball talent in Mean Green Country? On the previous question: Anyone know how many basketball courts the new Student Rec Center will have? Just curious...
  9. When UNT's new $31 million Student Rec Center opens this Fall, how many basketball courts will it have? Anyone have any idea? I am sure that Great American Shootout Director Mike Kunstadt already knows the answer to that question. He will welcome whatever number of new BB courts for his huge event next summer at UNT.
  10. CUSA Fan Forum you can pick up in the upper right and ledger of TCU's Frog Fan Forum message board. Better yet, can someone LINK the CUSA Forum? FRIDAY NIGHT UPDATE: Go to GMG football board for UNTLifer's link on this poll and vote your conscience!
  11. Anyone so surprised with that ad? I still say with Dentonites we will catch flies with honey. But sometimes it is quite difficult when you think something near and dear to you is being completely taken advantaged of and taken for granted as well. I guess we can smile and grit our teeth at the same time?
  12. CMJ, $20.2 million for UNT would build a new Athletic Center, equip it to the hilt and have some left over toward the rest of the stadium (since the AC/EZ facility is actually the first phase of our new stadium). I think UALR could get a mini "Super Pit" with $20.2 million. Hope all is going well for you in Los Angeles.
  13. I just don't even know how to repond to that gift for, uh, UA-Little Rock? A Little Rock businessman and philanthropist is shelling out $20.2 million for all this to happen. Man oh man oh man oh man... <_<
  14. Fellas, I have neither read the book or watched the movie, The Junction Boys, but I will in due time. I heard the ESPN movie was not all that great, is that true? Also, doesn't Ralph Strangis teach at UNT? <>*<> When Gene Stallings was at the UNT SuperPit for his forum 3 years ago, it was an honor for me just to be in the same room with him because I've known about his part in the Junction story most of my life. As a HS kid, me and another buddy from Alvin, Texas, went to the last game Stallings coached at TAMU (DKR and Co. tore up the poor Ags that day). Wished Coach Stallings could have had a little more luck with the Aggies, but this was before I really believe TAMU started really getting into their Permanent University Fund pipeline to bring their facilities and whole program in general up to a higher level. Junction, Texas? Used to have some friends from Junction, Texas. ???? Wasn't UT Longhorn's Outland Trophy winner of 1963, Scott Appleton, from Junction? Sorry, I forgot, he was from Brady (not far from Junction).
  15. Growing up in the Houston area, I always liked sportswriter Mickey Herskowitz who wrote for the Houston Post with Clark Nealon as its Sports Editor. The Post folded, ie, Dallas Times Herald, and Herskowitz went to the Houston Chronicle. I cannot recall what happened to the late Clark Nealon when the Post went belly up? Anyone from the Houston area remember? I liked play by play man Gene Elston of the Houston Colt .45's whose mascot name changed in 1965 to Astros. Lowell Passe was his most colorful color man. Elston also did play by play for the UH Cougars about the time in the 1960's they started their college football upswing. Morris Frank of Houston was a radio sports personality who had a very East Texas twang for a Jewish guy who was pretty popular in the Houston area back in the 1960's. I have many others in the DFW I could also list but maybe some of you will do that.
  16. Hey, thanks, CMJ, but can you find larger photos of those 2 aerial shots with another link? (There is a method to my madness on wanting the larger ones which I'll share with you later). Thanks! Hope everything is going well for you in Los Angeles ! Sincerely, Jim Plummer
  17. If you find them, please link or tell us where they are. Thanks in advance.
  18. Austin Talon: A REQUEST There is a large baseball cap manufacturing company in Norman, OK, owned by a gentleman named John Knight who distributes very nice quality collegiate caps to all Love's (and in quality visible display racks) and a few other places throughout the South & Southwest. Again, I can't express enough the quality of Knight's company's collegiate caps and at the moment, he is selling them at 2 for $10--a real steal considering their quality. Anyway, being the "un-shy" guy that I am, I took it on myself to just call Mr. Knight one afternoon on my cell phone after going to the Weatherford, Texas, Love's off I-20 (Bankhead Hwy exit) and not seeing any UNT Mean Green caps. (His phone and fax numbers were most prominently displayed on the cap rack display at Love's). In my conversation with Mr. Knight, I suggested to him that he is missing out on a huge market by not having UNT "MEAN GREEN" caps. I told him using Eagles (although our official nickname) was not en vogue as far as UNT athletics was concerned. I also gave him Rick Villarreal's number but Rick V is so busy trying to get us an Athletic Center and a new football stadium I don't know if he was able to reach our AD. I gave him all of UNT's numbers, demographics and the enormous size of our constituency (which blew him completely away as it does most) and he really, really, really sounded like he wanted to do something with UNT because he now thinks he can make some bucks by doing so. He is registered by Collegiate Licensing so all is OK in that dept. Anyway, Austin Talon, I told him that we are mostly using the very marketable name "Mean Green" as our name now and that we are the only college in America that has that as our nickname. He liked that exclusitivity and I suggested to him that "MEAN GREEN" might really catch on to others not associated with UNT, ie, the UMiami with their green and orange "U"? He said he would most definitely follow up on the UNT Mean Green but my requests to you is if you could fax to him the "UNT", the "North Texas" and "Mean Green" in the new style lettering UNT is using for those 3. Perhaps, such as the "UNT" in the avatar of all my post. You might even send him the circle star UNT but in green and white only. Mr Knight's company's phone numbers is: 1-866-366-6352 and his fax number is: (405) 292-6320 Austin Talon, thanks in advance and do please let us know of his response to you. He is very accessible (and very friendly) by telephone so you could probably even talk to Mr. Knight most times. Once again, thanks and GoMeanGreen!
  19. Anything new in the avatar department, Austin Talon?
  20. Does UNT now need to employ Wall Street experts perhaps? I know even in my 401K, my investments are spread out and extremely diversified. What is the UNT Foundation doing to lose so much of its investment? A 90/10 or something? UNT too many times is its own worst enemy; that is, with some of the people it hires, retains and just can't get rid of. Too many staff people in Denton we've seen, UNT will be the largest school they will ever be employed and UNT is too big for some of them; plus some of this group are not being overwhelmed by (legitimate) job offers by higher profile universities than UNT or we'd see some of them moving up by now. When that happens, it means they have done a commendable and good job at UNT (most of the time) to be in demand by higher profile schools. Same thing has happened in UNT athletics in past years. Anyone wonder why that dept. has been so impotent most of the last 30 years? The last 2 years IMHO have saved UNT football as for as the level we all want it to maintain and continue. Can you imagine if the last 2 years in football had been like most of the last quarter of a century's what a mess we'd be in today in Mean Green Country? Hell, the Sun Belt would be trying to do a "Temple University" on us or something. BUT BACK TO $$$$$$$$: Most of the last 30 years, most of the fundraisers I've seen UNT hire could not raise their own salaries. Hopefully, those days have changed. For the sake of the school where we all received our education and for where our Chancelor and President want our school to go, they better have changed.
  21. Rick, you're just going to have to start using spell check on some of your posts!
  22. IM4, the Delphi board is just a refreshing break from what we all normally dwell on. Variety is the spice of life? Delphi boards are interesting once you figure out how they work (and that doesn' t mean it takes a rocket scientist). They do have instant registration and that is good. So whoever is reading this should just go, well, uh, sign up now! Also, go to the Booger Kennedy/Playboy All American thread and post your .02 cents worth. Also, check out the Delphi SBC board's polls which you'll want to cast your vote (and opinion). Don't worry, Harry, GoMeanGreen.com is still #1 in our hearts!
  23. Shane, the link is the top right of this page under the "2003 Football Opponent Forum" ledger. Delphi Sun Belt Forum is the last one listed. GMG!
  24. MeanGreen 61 and myself need some more Greenbacker editorial comments on the Delphi SBC board, especially about Booger Kennedy and the Playboy All American thread. Also, a couple of interesting polls you may want to vote on. GMG!
  25. that is, CNN's continuous showing of coalition forces removing obvious "non fighting" Iraqi civilian families from their homes and scaring their kids half to death. I know some of those so called "innocent" civilians have killed some of our forces, but the cameras need not dwell on some subjects such as the kids. I know this is war and such things are to be expected but please spare us the continuous televised showing of the innocent who are scared out of their wits! OK, now yall can remove this thread, fellas!
