  1. On The Dish for about $160 you can have the ESPN Full Court package which covers tonight's UNT/Indiana Hoosier game at the SuperPit and the balance of the NCAA college BB season. Now about our Mean Green football recruiting....
  2. The key will be how many DFW area Indiana alums show at the SuperPit. Bet they bring a bunch--maybe Hoosier alum Mark Cuban as well?
  3. Just curious if there was some kind of connection as to how we got this basketball game in Denton. Not that there has to be since we've had other high profile teams in Denton the past few decades. Anyone know?
  4. Can we start calling UNT BB "Moses Ball?" You know, in the wildnerness for 40 years? Seriously, the law of averages say we are over-due to start doing some pretty fabulous things soon.
  5. "IF" the Frogs are going to the MWC. Isn't it strange to any of you, too, that a 11-1 TCU football team is staying home for a bowl game? Not what most 11-1 teams would do, unless there was a method to their madness in doing so? The general concensus from Frog Fan Forum and CUSA Forum is that they will be leaving CUSA. With the shabby treatment the Frogs received (and also dished out to an extent) with CUSA/Mobile Bowl officials, that seems to be an indicator that the Frogs are history as far as CUSA is concerned. Anyone heard any late-breaking on all this with TCU. I think there leaving CUSA will affect North Texas future from all accounts. Will be interesting to see what happens.
  6. I know a whole bunch of people on this board who used to be as regular of fans at BB games as our FB games, but for some reason over the last 2 decades, North Texas cannot get this BB program jump-started and a whole lot of those fans just got tired of the wait. Johnny Jones may be the one who brings this BB program out of the dark ages, but so far, the jury is still out. I do not understand why North Texas cannot recruit the super star BB player as we know our campus is a most diversified campus ( in every way) that such a basketball player would feel more than just comfortble on our campus. Now if other programs out there are still buying their players (which we know we aren't) then that's another story. This board is about opinions and I am one who does NOT try to get anyone to agree with me on anything that I opinionate on, as I would hope others would do the same with the rest of us on this board. Think its also a good idea to post responses on the actual post subjects and not the poster (as I think the rules on most of these message boards sorta' suggest should not happen). Of course, if attacked by a competitor who is smacking NORTH TEXAS, happy hunting and hope you bag you one! I do know there was a time when I looked forward to buying college BB pre-season magazines and look forward to what UNT BB would do to improve, now all I do is just glance at their covers on the magazine rack at WalMart and then go over to the Low Rider's section (just for the pictures, of course). It defies logic that UNT with one of the finest on-campus BB facilities in America cannot seem to turn the corner with BB, but one might look at many other very strong D1-A football programs who seem to have the same problem with their own BB program. We are not alone in all this is what I am saying.
  7. Nice (as always) Austin Talon! How about an avatar (or logo?) for Patrick Cobbs, aka, "The Emerald Express?"
  8. WALA! As I am driving in from Hurst on Airport Freeway 121 this weekend going into downtown Fort Worth and what do I see as I cross the Belknap bridge coming into downtown? How about a billboard promoting Sam Houston State University with an action football shot of one of their Bearcat football players; also had a 1-888 number for more info. Selling football tickets from a billboard for a college located over 3 hours away from DFW?!?!? Damn! IF SHSU can do this, can't other schools located right here in the Metroplex do the same? Wonder how much that billboard would cost per month? Has a great location. Congrats to SHSU on their Metroplex marketing pro-activity. COLLEGE ATHLETICS IN THE METROPLEX: It's all about continuous marketing here in the Metroplex, even if your football team is playing for a conference championship and bowl game appearance in its last home game, hence, 16,400 attendance at Fouts for that game? It took some of us a few decades to figure this out when it concerns marketing your collegiate sports product here in the Metroplex, hope others lend an ear to those who have been around this neck of the woods during all that time.
  9. medpilot21, I actually just listened to the interview and think Dickey made a fairly overall good presentation except when he reverted back to the old themes. I think he'd show even more class by not doing this in the future. It is becoming old news. Stebo, you are right inasmuch as that "no one" I know from this board and beyond ever doubted or dissed our Mean Green football players--not one time. We did question the leadership, play calling, stubborness of a coach not wanting to open it up and utilize the talent with the right offense, etc, etc, etc,.... That we would all admit our guilt. I think DD does not realize (or probably shouldn't care since he was not here at the time) what we as North Texas fans/alums had dealt with with this football program before he even arrived on the scene and that was not much except 1 winning season in 1994; not too many before that year. Why he would be so surprised with alumnus reaction to his first 3 1/2 years is beyond many of us. He said on ESPN radio this type of thing comes with the territory so he needs to accept that because it does come with the territory. We had one coach at North Texas who kept complaining about facilities even though those same facilities didn't keep him from taking the job; and then in that coach's last days on payroll he started bragging in the press about all the other job offers he had, and soon after that he was told to take one of those jobs and "don't let the door hit ya' where the good Lord split ya'. We had yet another bad athletic hire with a very congenial and gentlemanly HS coach from Marshall, Texas, namely Dennis Parker. A UNT VP to Hurley was said to have closed the deal with that hiring. So FWIW, we were all basically in a tether with this football progarm before DD ever coached his first game at North Texas. Coach Dickey does (IMO) need to look at the idea of doing a complete 180 degrees on the "woe is us" OR "we're up against all odds at North Texas" OR "what little our alum$ give" comments. We already know all this. Why does it need to be announced to radio listeners? Why announce all this to those who listen on even the national radio air waves now? How could any such comments possibly get us on more area Top 100 recruiting high school prospect's lists as to get our present good nucleus of players who have been successful in the Sun Belt some additional help so they can start doing like little ol' La Tech in Ruston, LA (who BTW has no more facilities than UNT); but like little ol' La Tech who pulls off the big upsets with national teams such as Michigan State, Alabama and others from time to time. Can anyone remember the last time North Texas had such upsets with national teams, not just ex SWC teams? I know his time was limited on ESPN radio, but what a great opportunity it would have been on nationwide radio for DD to have mentioned that Phase 1 of the new Mean Green Villlage had begun; a project that will culminate with a brand new football stadium. I have yet to hear any comments on any of his radio shows on Monday night or post game shows about the beginnings of Phase 1 in Mean Green Country; you know, the very project that has all of us as alums/fans besides ourselves with sheer excitement. Have any of you heard this on the airwaves? I hope you can tell us that you have. You remember when Jerry Jones first bought the Cowboys, most everything he said to the the media in his early years as a NFL owner came out making him look like a real bonafide Arkansas goober? Remember coments like "he even looks good in the shower" or "they are the pick of the litter" comments on the Cowboy cheerleaders, and those just the tip of the early quotable Jerry Jones iceberg; anyway, Jerry Jones was most highly advised to get a media coach to coach him with what he said to the press and how he should say it for all to hear. Well, new NFL owner/multi-millionaire Jerry Jones swallowed his pride and ego and did just that and all his awkward comments to media types pretty well came to an abrupt end. I want our head football coach at North Texas to be successful in every phase because if he is, then our alma mater is.
  10. Can anyone link the story? Page 2-D, Fort Worth Star Telegram....Thanks! The article is about former North Texas Mean Green tri-captain from the Hayden Fry-coached 1973 Missouri Valley football champions team and that would be Mr. Jim "Mack" McIngvale. The story talks nothing about football but Mr. McIngvale's interests in Houston area tennis. Wonder why the StarTelegram chose not to mention his area collegiate affiliation since its only about 35 miles from where they print their newspaper?
  11. Does all this mean that the Big 12 will be looking at the 'Stangs now? Ya' think maybe 1 more NCAA probation would clinch that league for them?
  12. The movie comes out around Christmas...Can't wait for this one. Got to see John Wayne's premier of his version of "The Alamo" in 1960 at a theatre near me.
  13. Close to $5 million over 4 years! He has Parcells to thank on changing Cowboy philosophy on kicker/punters. Way to go Toby!
  14. None of this makes any sense as far as our QB Drew Smith is concerned. He comes from a well educated family and his father is a Principal at a Bay City, Texas, high school. I would wage a bet that his school administrator dad was in Denton in less than 6 hours after all this story broke. What do you think?!?!? Pulling for our guys to get their heads on straight and not be around scenes where events at those scenes might even incriminate the innocent.
  15. There ain't much good that happens late night (or early AM) when there is a lot of drinkin' and hollerin' goin' on. One of the best RB's (Bernard Jackson) UNT has ever had was killed in a similar drinking scenario back in the late 1970's. What a tragedy for any family to have to endure.
  16. Today Lyndon Baines Johnson's alma mater officially became Texas State Universty-San Marcos.
  17. They might as well in light of the news of the last 24 hours on Bliss. What a pathetic situation in Waco. What I thought was originally more of a "player-driven" problem has evolved into a Baylor leadership driven problem, and most likely will affect their administration all the way to the top.
  18. MSN reports a worm is invading Windows98 and Windows XP...I have the latter software. Any of you found out how to repair this yet? You cannot get thru to Compaq technical support as they haven been inundated with calls. THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS ON MY HOME PC: When I log in, a screen that pops up in less than 5 minutes says, SYSTEMS SHUTDOWN (RPC); then it tells you to shut down your computer or lose all your programs. Any recommendations?
  19. Then the, uh, "honorable?" Tom Vandergriff and his fellow Tarrant scoundrels had this county line dispute put in one of THEIR Tarrant County district courts and had the decision (surprise!) over-turned in their county's favor. I live in Parker County and wonder how Parker County court officials feel about the fact that Tarrrant officials basically threw pie in their faces with an insinuation to Parker County officials that their decision in favor of Denton County was not worth of jar of warm spit; but the decision ruling in favor of Tarrant County in a Tarrant County court was. Anyone know what is happening with all this as of the present? I think if I were living in Denton County I would feel a bit bullied byTarrant County to be quite truthful.
  20. Dickey always seems to have someone to fill the piece of the puzzle if a part comes up missing. Remember when our best linebacker was knocked out of the Alabama game last Fall how that piece of the puzzle was filled? I hope we don't lose the player whoever it is as the original post on this thread did say "may be inelgible."
  21. UNT will build a new football stadium as soon as its gets 1, 2, a coalition of private donors OR a major corporation to provide the funds to build it. Nothing has changed on the football stadium timetable in that regard. If Rick V gets the "BIG DONOR(S)" to give the mega-bucks tonight, an annoucement would soon be forthcoming. This football season could very well tweak the interest of the kind of donors we need for our new football stadium at Eagle Point. The momentum our football progam now has going is not going to hurt our efforts in getting the attention of the one(s) who will under-write the building of our fabulous new football stadium. UNT chose a good time to turn the thing around!
  22. Were any of you older nestors at that Bob Hope get-together at the Super Pit back in 1973 or '74? I was not but am interested to know what all he was talking about that night if you can recall.
  23. SUMG and I were talking about this today. Bob Hope had come up to Denton to entertain before a packed SuperPit in either the summer of 1973 or 1974. Hayden Fry was in attendance at that SuperPit extravaganza and gave Mr. Hope a Mean Green cap. If you have ever seen the movie "Coach" about Fry's first year in Denton, you would have seen a film clip of Coach Fry giving Bob Hope that cap. SUMG also reminded me that Bob Hope was made an honorary member of the Mean Green Club. Thanks for the memories, Mr. Bob Hope, one great American.
  24. Former Texas Aggie great, NFL/WFL coach and cancer surviver Jack Pardee played 6 man football but for the life of me I cannot remember what Texas town he went to school.
