I think that Texas State would be the most interesting out of the Belt but UTSA would be against that.

I would too. Between DFW, Houston, and SA we have the major population centers of Texas covered. It'd serve the league better if some new markets were opened up. Temple is also on a bit of an island, if we can get someone out there to help them out that would be good. Army or UMass, the only thing about UMass is they don't fit the large market style the AAC has been going for. UConn would be ideal, but there's no way they join the AAC.

The $22M deal reportedly also includes ESPN's control of who the PAC adds if new members are needed.  They have already said no to Smut (as value added), lol.

Yeah I saw reports about that, I'd wager ESPN holds all of the leverage here. Looking at it from their eyes they already have SMU with the AAC, they don't have SDSU. If the PAC refuses to do as ESPN says they can just pull their deal, and essentially force the PAC teams to leave to the Big12, so they will have mountain/pacific time slots one way or the other.

This deal is also rumored that Amazon and ESPN will carry 1 game EACH a week, with Amazon getting the premier match up. That's a huge drop in exposure and I would bet is the reason ION was rumored as a partner. They were trying to get more games on tv for the other members. That along with the getting paid $10m less than the Big12 is driving speculation of more defections.

True, but the Big XII also hadn’t lost their broadcasting deal/revenue stream. Where does the PAC? get their money and how do they hold on to their P5 status with no revenue coming in?

It all depends how this thing all shake out. The rumor is they have a deal for $22m, that's low for P5, but more than double what the AAC makes, so they will have some revenue coming in. The whole situation could stabilize or landslide at any minute because there's rumors flying everywhere right now.

As far as being seen as a P5, which is a label that was created not an official designation, that too depends on if they lose more teams or not. If they manage to keep the 10 together maybe they can hold on to that perception. They'd have to overcome less revenue, and less exposure while still excelling on the field. If they lose more teams they can pretty much kiss that perception goodbye.

    Christian Moore 30 piece incoming.

Hopefully he gets some minutes, as I don't think Hunstberry will play even if he is doing better. It's best not to risk him before the tourney.

No Huntsberry, and no Martinez has us looking thin. Let's hope players can seize this chance to show their hard work in practice, and hopefully we get those two back to 100% before the tournament.

Exactly.  No PAC P5 school is going to give up citizenship there to move down to a G5 conference (MWC or AAC) voluntarily.  They will just invite moveups from the MWC.  Boise, UNLV, AF, Colo St, et al would all love to be P5s instantly, just like Smut.   No test needed....  which is exactly what is wrong with instant moveups to P5, no credibility that they belong at that level!

People forget that the AAC wanted to pick up the Big12 leftovers if that conference broke apart, instead they get raided for their best teams because the Big12 name trumps the AAC one. Water flows down, and it's going to take a suspension of the laws of physics to change that, much like realignment.

When all's done, the Mountain West will likely provide a home to PAC orphans Oregon State and Washington State, as well as tagalongs SDSU and SMU.

I just don't see it, even in the worst case scenario and you only have OSU/Wazzu, I still see the Pac12 name holding more value than the MWC. The big question is do they keep their bowl contracts, sponsorships, CFP payouts, NCAA credits, etc. The only way they would move to the MWC is if the conference dissolved, and if it somehow did I could see it as a toss up that they go independent in FB instead and put their olympic sports in the MWC or WCC.

If this PAC deal ends up anything short of a complete disaster, I'm going to talk so much trash on this board.  As Deion said, "I'm comin'"

About what? UNT has zero skin in this, we've already made our conference upgrade.

I find it hilarious you and others have spent so much time and effort on an opposing team's board. I can't imagine wasting my time at SMU's fan board, assuming they have one, I wouldn't know. See you Nov. 10th conference mate!  🤣

I have no doubt the new weight room, locker room, offices, etc. will look great once the expansion is done. But since the expansion is pushing the building much closer to the field, why not go the extra mile and build a legit endzone club level like La Tech or App State? Whatever you call the "seating" in the latest rendering is painfully underwhelming.

Agreed. This cost App State $50m, but I believe it included demolishing an old building, removing of the track, and new turf.

I have to think our new end zone facility is mainly functional in design for the needed AC staff space required now, and perhaps (hopefully) not the final finished product as far as stadium cosmetics and end zone suites and seating.

It looks to be temporary as far as seating because it sits back so far from the field.  At least 50-60 feet away from the field, those are Fouts seats, lol.  This structure could be eventually overlaid with much closer seating and suites as demand and future funds become available.  Many new end zone complexes and seating are just behind the dashed field boundary line, or at least as close as the small brick wall for the grass-sloped berms.

One big issue about changing this again later is re-doing the video boards (again.) From the pic we've been given you'd have to move them to build anything closer to the field.

There's a lot of questions here and the biggest one is how much are they spending? I think that alone will tell us what it "should" look like. Because if we are spending $15m- and up we could be doing better imo. I also find it strange that they didn't opt to put the weight room, with a bunch of glass right at the field, like what LA tech did.

  10. We had this interesting discussion brought up in the BB arena thread. So are the renders on the Light The Tower page final or just an idea? If they are then I have to agree with @GrayEagle and @UNTcrazy727 that our design is really lacking.

Envision? Aren't the Light the Tower renders the final design?

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!

Please Dear Football Gods, NO! ... Do something that adds to our stadium, not just enhancing the office amenities. This location is WAY TOO VALUABLE real estate to waste by desecrating it with this limited vision project. This design is so SJSU. Find some other place to build this unsightly shed and it's 50 seats. It looks like pre-fab housing. The principle reminds me of when you'd see shacks with washers and dryer sets placed on the front porch. "It may be unsightly as hell, but we too have got one".

Why not something like Tech's revised endzone football facility which is also designed to fit between their stadium and their athletics facility? Theirs is designed to be an integral part of their stadium unlike our proposed abomination.

(We can do better, much, much better)

Texas Tech plans $200 million football facilities project

I agree with you. If that's the final design then its extremely disappointing. I have no expectations or desire for us to match Texas Tech, but we HAVE to at least match what Louisiana Tech built.

They will negotiate themselves out early for a chance to join the SEC, just like uT and oU did from the Big12.

ACC schools would gladly accept an instant extra $150m toward their programs.

From my understanding if they want to leave the ACC it will cost them $100m plus, but that's only to leave. It does not include getting out of the GOR, so until 2035 the ACC would still control and receive that team's media rights. That's a non-starter for any conference wanting to add a team from the ACC.
